Why would you want your bare skin touching a seat?

So your arms don’t touch the seat? Your head? Should we wear hijabs?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/03/2019 08:45

Why would you want your bare skin touching a seat? Has she not seen the creepy crawlers on the tube?

She must have had a top with her - she got to the airport and it’s not exactly been tropical here.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/03/2019 08:43

The fact is, vest tops are different from crop tops/bralettes.

Ah yes. The shocking sight of a woman's midriff must be avoided at all costs.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 14/03/2019 08:38

I guess airlines have clothing policies to stop people wearing beachwear on the flight.
It doesn't look offensive to me, but if they have a policy, they are entitled to stick to it.
If the man was contravening the policy and they said nothing to him, it's double standards.

I'm interested in the views of the people standing up for Thomas Cook

which part of this woman specifically needed to be covered up?

Her shoulders?

A part of her stomach?

which bit was so bad that it warranted singling her out in front of a plane full of people?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/03/2019 08:34

It doesn’t look very comfortable or practical travel wear but I’ve seen less/worse in flights.

If that had been me I would have laughed, made a stupid comment like ‘well I suppose I’m just too darn hot so had better cover up’ and put on a jumper (I always have a jumper in my hand luggage as places get bloody cold).

Everyone knows that air staf Have The Power and can be very mardy, so here’s really no point in arguing with them.

Why is everything a drama with people these days? Put on a jumper - get a photo and take the piss online later.

feelingverylazytoday · 14/03/2019 08:31

TheOnlylivingboy it would only be double standards if women weren't allowed to wear vests and men were. The fact is, vest tops are different from crop tops/bralettes.

feelingverylazytoday · 14/03/2019 08:28

One point she made was that on the same plane was a male passenger wearing a vest top. Who.... was not asked to "cover up'" in any way
Well maybe she should have worn a vest top as well then, if she wanted to be treated in the same way. The fact is, she didn't, she wore something that was considered not appropiate for the dress code.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/03/2019 08:28

anniehm - would you like to challenge them over their double standards in not asking the man wearing a vest to cover up then? Since you're in favour of "making a stand"?

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 08:24

It’s a crop top and plenty of people wear them on flights in summer. Men get to wear vests? It’s stupid to treat her like this.

Strugglingtodomybest · 14/03/2019 08:11

Even if there is a dress code, why did no-one mention it to her until she was sat on the plane?

Horsewithnogender · 14/03/2019 07:52

Thomas Cook (staff) are bullies.

I hate bullies.

I too want to see the "dress code" and I'd also like to know if the morons at TC have EVER treated a man this way. I suspect not. Arseholes.

LassOfFyvie · 14/03/2019 07:51

It's not a bra, it's a bralet top or crop top

If you say so. It looks like a badly fitting bra.

anniehm · 14/03/2019 07:51

Airlines have standards of dress, it includes no beach wear. She's wearing underwear basically. Glad they made a stand

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 14/03/2019 07:43

After giving birth I was being wheeled up to the wards. I said it was okay not to cover my knees with a blanket. The head midwife shouted at the midwives taking me up, saying I might offend someone.

My knees

My lower legs

I'M OFFENDED BY THE THOUGHT THEY COULD BE OFFENDED

😂

people are weird

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/03/2019 07:33

I think the outfit and the young lady look lovely

And i really don't understand what the problem is AND i want to see what the dress code is!

If she had been wearing tiny netball short type pants so it looked like she was wearing a bikini i might be a bit more meh about it

But loads of young women wear those outfits, everything is covered

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 07:28

Northern, was your thread in AIBU? It’s pretty gross over there. I really do wonder why MNHQ haven’t implemented specific rules for that board as it’s far worse than here.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 07:27

I saw this, it’s disgusting they treated her like this and let another passenger abuse her too. They are so lucky I wasn’t on that plane.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 14/03/2019 07:23

Lots of girls and young women are wearing tops like this with those high-waisted trousers. I don't think this is particularly revealing - hardly any midriff showing, just very low cut.

Not being allowed to fly because of this outfit is shocking. What are Thomas Cook thinking. Sounds like some a member of staff just decided to make an example of her.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/03/2019 07:02

One point she made was that on the same plane there was a male passenger wearing a vest top. Who - and I know I'm going to shock you all here - was not asked to "cover up" in any way.

picklemepopcorn · 14/03/2019 06:51

As an oldie, she makes me feel chilly just looking at her. If I were on the plane, I'd roll my eyes at young people's dress codes. Then remember some of my outfits back when I was young and lovely.

wanderingcloud · 14/03/2019 06:40

I clicked on the picture thinking she had bikini bottoms on and it might be a bit underdressed but she looks completely fine?! What on earth!

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 14/03/2019 06:30

NorhernBullet I wonder if another passenger complained? The whole thing is so odd.

NorthernBullet · 14/03/2019 06:28

I started a thread on this last night... general consensus was she was 'attention seeking' and should 'cover up' Hmm

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 14/03/2019 06:28

I really hope there is more to this because if there isn't this is disturbing. I see it as the other side of the coin of #metoo:

Woman as a sexual object = sexual assault is rife

Woman as a sexual object = a young woman wearing High Street summer clothes is so offensive she is told to get off a plane; she is insulted by other passengers and harassed to "cover up" by most of the crew

Man wearing similar clothes = perfectly fine

Drunken men regularly allowed to fly by British carriers, against their own rules = normal paying customers. Nothing to see here.

It's Thomas Cook's statement that I am dismayed about. They stand by their decision that this woman was breaking a dress code nobody has heard of. So a girl's shoulders and belly button now cause offence - not on the streets of Dubai but on a British flight from a European holiday destination.

This is nothing but misogyny, where the very existence of women is an insult to some. I hope there will be further clarification from Thomas Cook Sad
