In the Scottish Parliament today Joan McAlpine MSP asked the Scottish Justice Secretary whether Police Scotland and the Scottish Court Services record incidents according to the alleged perpetrator's birth sex of self-declaration.

The Justice Secretary confirmed that Police Scotland and the court and tribunal services do indeed record suspects according to their self-identified gender and that Police Scotland require no evidence of certification as proof of gender other than a person's self declaration.

Good for Joan. Not good for Police Scotland.
I'll put up a link to footage when I get one.

On a lighter note, did anyone else snigger at the phrase "reassure the member?"

Recording crimes according to self-ID means this will be recorded as a female crime. why are our police and court services ok about this?

Fucking hell. It's wheel, after wheel being reinvented.

What next, the denial of fire?

That the complacency of being on the right side of history. Don't think about anything, don't investigate to ensure your measures are justified, just sit back and wait for history to apply to red-hot burning brand "bigot" onto the hide of your opponents.

if it's not important, why do we record sex at all in relation to crime?

If people can muddy the waters by making up any old bollocks, then what's the point?

scotsheather · 13/03/2019 15:25

And he's quite blase about it. Don't see a man loosing sleep over it.

Would love to see that episode of Roberta C Nesbit:

"Oh, aye, ahm a lassie..."

Well done Joan.

The wry smile as he says that no one would self identify to commit crime and other excuses - yeah, she's ready to give him names and incident reports.

His argument appears to be somewhere between it being so few it makes no real difference (yes, it does to women, it does to reality and facts), and that being trans is somehow incompatible with committing violent or sexual crime. Which we know is not only obvious and multiply proven bollocks but also unhelpful and a bit insulting really to the trans community.

no evidence of certification as proof of gender other than a person's self declaration.

It's as if self id is law already.
