In the Scottish Parliament today Joan McAlpine MSP asked the Scottish Justice Secretary whether Police Scotland and the Scottish Court Services record incidents according to the alleged perpetrator's birth sex of self-declaration.

The Justice Secretary confirmed that Police Scotland and the court and tribunal services do indeed record suspects according to their self-identified gender and that Police Scotland require no evidence of certification as proof of gender other than a person's self declaration.

Good for Joan. Not good for Police Scotland.
I'll put up a link to footage when I get one.

The Polis are erasing women's identity?

'The Leith Police dis-miss-ith us?'

OvaHere · 13/03/2019 20:14

What happens if someone who is on a stag do also identifies as a woman? Obviously it's possible given that all you have to do is say so

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/03/2019 20:11

Presumably police don't just accept name, address, age without question

I also believe that the police are known to disregard a suspects self identification of not guilty. Bigots.

Now100 · 13/03/2019 20:04

I just can't fathom how he could keep a straight face whilst saying they record gender by self-id. Presumably police don't just accept name, address, age without question? Why is it only with sex that it doesn't matter if the data recorded is true or not?

*Well done Joan.

The London metropolitan police have been recording perpetrators of crimes by their self identified gender since 2009.

That's before the Equality Act existed.
Before 'proposed gender reassignment' was a protected characteristic. Yet, the police recorded male criminals as female at their request.

That's a lot of false crime statistics. An entire decade.*

I assume this is what’s behind a lot of the ‘women do it to’ and the starting to warn on child protection training about how many offenders are female.

Complete and utter cunts.

Richard Garside, director of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, said: “I’m glad the justice secretary is open to learning more. It’s really important that crime statistics are based on objective criteria, independent of the persons subjective views and feelings. Classifying according to birth sex, rather than subjective feelings about the self, should therefore be the norm. Asking about gender identity alongside classifying by birth sex might be the best compromise. It would also offer useful additional information to help us understand patterns of offending."
Lisa Mackenzie, of analysis group MurrayBlackburnMackenzie, added: "It is very rare for women to commit certain offences, such as sexual and serious violent crimes. "Recording based on self-declared gender identity in such cases risks skewing official statistics, damaging our ability to properly document, analyse and understand such behaviours. "The introduction of unregulated self-identification principles into the criminal justice system deserves proper democratic debate and oversight, and the Scottish Government should share any analysis on which it is basing its view that the impact of this change will not be significant."

Thank you again Joan-as I feel change of gender (as well as name) can be a way of hiding tracks (e.g. paedophilia & sex assaults/rape) by those who we need to know are offenders, in our communities. There is a huge safeguarding issue if men can use this as camouflage.
There also needs to be more studies into how many Transwomen commit male patterned crime, in Scotland, before any further change to GRA which means even more male bodied people may access women only services/jobs etc

should be recorded as female, unless they are quite obviously not – and by that I mean something like a stag night where a group of men are dressed as women who quite clearly are not women and one gets arrested.

What?? That was there official response to a serious question about crime statistics?

Their definition of woman is anyone who says they are and is not on a stag do?

Absofuckingunbelievable

rocketromano · 13/03/2019 19:03

Amazing work Joan, please keep it up. I’d be interested to know if she actually does meet with Humza Yousaf or it was just all bluster from him

WokerThanWoke · 13/03/2019 18:40

I identify as non-DNA so if ever I commit a crime and there’s forensics matching my DNA at the crime scene it’s not me. DNA is actually quite prejudiced in determining who has committed a crime and I think it should be made more inclusive going forward.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 13/03/2019 18:32

I am a GC police officer. Back in November I wrote to the British Association of Women in Policing regarding trans search policies and crime stats.

They obviously found themselves on the spot, soiled themselves copiously and just forwarded it on to the lead for bloody Trans issues, an ACC in Merseyside.
Her staff officer wrote to me and said:

"With the issue over crime recording, again discussed in the call with Fair Play for Women, we have responded to numerous media enquiries via NPCC that if someone presents in custody and says they are female, they should be recorded as female, unless they are quite obviously not – and by that I mean something like a stag night where a group of men are dressed as women who quite clearly are not women and one gets arrested. The numbers would be so low that the likelihood of skewing any figures is negligible."

So basically they don't give a shit about huge spikes in stats for women comitting rape and sexual assault, because as it stands women cannot rape (due to legal definition) but with self ID there will inevitably be rises (from zero).

Fuckers.

Ohallright · 13/03/2019 18:16

It’s just a new take on “Lies, damned lies, and statistics”.

OldCrone · 13/03/2019 17:48

FFS I mean why record anything then? Why have any facts in relation to crime stats? Time of incident, location, nature of crime, I mean it’s all subjective and dependent on how you want to ‘self declare’ it right?

If they can select what sex they are, why not let them make up everything else about their identity? Name, age, nationality...

I've said it before and I'll say it again,

McAlpine for First Minister.

OrchidInTheSun · 13/03/2019 17:26

Or indeed types of crime Humbert. I may have committed my crime with a knife but I want to declare it as having been committed by a gun. Why can't I do that?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/03/2019 17:25

Wtf on what justification

It's interesting isn't it the amount of organisations who are choosing to be "ahead of the law" on this - is it really just GIRES et al doing the advising?

Lemoncakestrudel · 13/03/2019 17:21

And yet the papers have been asking for a number of years “why have women got so violent?”

boatyardblues · 13/03/2019 17:17

Oh, and a huge thank you to Joan.

boatyardblues · 13/03/2019 17:15

God, this makes me angry - muddying crime stats and recording male violence in the women’s stats is totally unacceptable. Let’s record birth sex and gender separately, as has been proposed for the census. No doubt the TRAs will bleat on about the injustice of it, but we’ll have a much clearer picture of emerging trends (which is why TRAs will fight it tooth & nail, of course).

I had a long discussion with my MSP about this - he’s an x JS & looked like this Confused when police Scotland confirmed they record whatever people tell them along with a whole woke bit of nonsense about recording other identities that m/f in text boxes if possible (depending on system used)

Joan is on fire!

In a good way, not in a ‘die in a fire t**f scum’ way.
