In the Scottish Parliament today Joan McAlpine MSP asked the Scottish Justice Secretary whether Police Scotland and the Scottish Court Services record incidents according to the alleged perpetrator's birth sex of self-declaration.

The Justice Secretary confirmed that Police Scotland and the court and tribunal services do indeed record suspects according to their self-identified gender and that Police Scotland require no evidence of certification as proof of gender other than a person's self declaration.

Good for Joan. Not good for Police Scotland.
I'll put up a link to footage when I get one.

I wonder if any other MSPs woke up upon hearing this. Thank you Joan.

We really need to get the details of all the serious sexual crimes that "women" committed and find out if any were men.

Floisme · 14/03/2019 07:02

This is the aspect of self ID that scares me the most. A couple of generations down the line and male violence and sex crime could be invisible (although women will still know all about it of course.)
Now who could possibly benefit from that Hmm?

OrchidInTheSun · 14/03/2019 06:08

Cloven, I think the Mail thinks nothing of the sort. Given that women can't actually rape because we don't have penises, I think they're trying to make it c,ear what a fucking nonsense it is.

Incidentally, these are the ONS figures. Male victims zero, female perpetrators 1.

Rape and sexual assault by penetration is a crime committed by men against women.

Smotheroffive · 14/03/2019 06:07

AFAIK the ONS have already been raising recording of sex accurately, as an issue to investigate, to avoid skewing of stats

Smotheroffive · 14/03/2019 06:02

Police have in that case been guilty of not acting in accordance with law and due process, as have the courts.

They should be in the shit for that!

See Gender Recognition Act 22004, section 20: Gender-specific offences

Cloven · 14/03/2019 03:19

Now I think of it, if there were 60 known transwomen sex offenders in prison last year, and there were 142 female sex offenders convicted in total in 2016....
it defies all common sense to imagine that transwomen sex offenders aren't distorting the statistics considerably.

Cloven · 14/03/2019 03:09

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5465541/Record-number-women-convicted-sex-crimes-Britain.html

Did you all see this? It was a couple of Twitter links away and it seems very relevant.

A record number of women are being convicted of sex crimes, with many of their attacks carried out on children. Some 142 were guilty of sex offences in 2016 – almost double the 74 convicted two years earlier and more than triple the number at the start of the decade.

I just drew a little graph of that. Looks kind of like an exponential increase. Since the start of the decade... what an uncanny coincidence.

Six were convicted of rape, 37 of sexual activity with or involving a child, one of sexual grooming, 35 for internet child pornography offences and four for exposure and voyeurism.

And the Daily Mail and their experts apparently think this is all down to teachers abusing adolescent boys...

Popchyk · 13/03/2019 22:34

There was a lot of press coverage at the time of the suicides of two male inmates who identified as transgender.

Also Tara Hudson, male person who identifies as transgender, was moved to a women's prison after a public outcry.

The document I linked to upthread details all of this.

But the Transgender Equality Report's recommendations were a big factor in the Ministry of Justice changing tack and allowing male transgender inmates to go to female prisons to in the majority of cases.

And of course the Ministry of Justice did not consider the impact on female inmates either. Not for a second.

Quite the pattern of government departments being blind to the risks that they were subjecting women to.

Loopytiles · 13/03/2019 22:27

FFS.

Thank you Joan.

This should be raised with ONS.

Thank you Popchyck
Maria Miller is a real enabler of all this - but squeals when challenged .

Popchyk · 13/03/2019 22:12

Maria Miller had a hand in this as well, truth.

In January 2016, the Transgender Enquiry report came out. It recommended that prisoners should be housed according to their self-identified gender. Remember that the Transgender Enquiry Committee did no impact assessment on women generally, far less female prisoners.

"There is a clear risk of harm (including violence, sexual assault, selfharming and suicide) where trans prisoners are not located in a prison or other setting appropriate to their acquired / affirmed gender".

In November 2016, the Ministry of Justice updated its guidelines, referencing the Transgender Enquiry Report.

"The key shift in policy is that, in the majority of cases, the prison service will try to accommodate prisoners in the gender with which they identify, even if they are not seeking medical interventions or GRCs".

It's not just about statistics either - what about the poor female police officers who are required to search these men identifying as women?

Quite surprised that the Scottish Justice Secretary hasn't heard of this individual.

www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/transgender-prisoner-branded-one-scotlands-11837767

Transgender Tiffany Scott, previously Andrew Burns...

In April Scott, 26, had to be wrestled to a hospital floor after spitting at nurses, with 11 security and prison officers needed to get her under control.

Four months later a courtroom was put into lockdown for safety reasons when Scott appeared for sentencing. Earlier Scott had been found guilty of smearing excrement over her cell and assaulting four warders and a prison nurse during a “dirty protest” at Glenochil jail, Clackmannanshire.

In April 2016 we told how female prison officers refused to stripsearch Scott after she declared she was transgender.

Scott demanded only female officers did searches.

Floisme · 13/03/2019 22:05

The London metropolitan police have been recording perpetrators of crimes by their self identified gender since 2009.
The fucking, fucketing, fuckety fuckers.
Fuck them to fuck.
This has made me cross.

Lemoncakestrudel · 13/03/2019 22:03

Took a lot of talking to two WPCs in Wolves to persuade them this was actually happening computer. Could be that Wolves has joined the brigade by now.

tries v. v. hard not to be arrested, accepts free thought is a crime now

ComputerSaysMo · 13/03/2019 21:51

Bloody hell, DontBuyANewMumCashmere. I can’t believe they sent your query to the siding trans officer to answer.

The policing news that shocked me was seeing the guidance on a local force site (provided by Stonewall, I think) that said that “non binary” officers could get their warrant cards issued in two gender identities, so they could use whichever identity they were feeling on the day. I mean bloody hell - what kind of message does that send out?!

truthisarevolutionaryact · 13/03/2019 21:49

How did all these trans influencers get so close to the Ministry of Justice that they could persuade them that any man who identifies as a woman must be treated as such? I know it's a naive question but the evidence is so compelling as to why it's a crap idea (given that the MoJ deals repeatedly with paedophiles and sex offenders) yet somehow they all nodded and agreed it was a cracking idea for sex offenders to be imprisoned with women. I still find it unbelievable.

Scienceforthewin · 13/03/2019 21:49

I identify as a cat. Does this mean I can wee in public and this is no longer an offense? They can't arrest a cat for peeing 🤷‍♀️

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/03/2019 21:39

@HumzaYousaf
has offered to meet criminologists concerned that crime is recorded according to the "self identified" gender of the perpetrator.

Popchyk · 13/03/2019 21:15

Sorry you are feeling down, Dontbuy.

Feels like the police service generally has taken the view that any issues that female officers face must go to the Trans lead for adjudication.

So the issue of female officers being forced to search male suspects for example is not something that women should be able to raise, discuss and come to a resolution.

On the contrary, the issue will be passed to the Trans lead to deliver a verdict on it. And the verdict will always be that whatever a male person wants is always more important than what a female person wants.

It is all very Gilead.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 13/03/2019 20:59

Yes when you're brought into custody unless you have ID which obviously contradicts what you say, your name address DoB are listed as the detainee gives.
You get well known repeat offenders with reams of aliases because when they're brought in to custody (before they're fingerprinted) they give any old name.

I'm so dispirited with policing right now.
Thankfully I work for a very feminist (and lovely) high ranking officer who has asked me to work with her on a 'gender' working group (yes I've already told her the difference between sex and gender).

Trousering · 13/03/2019 20:33

Mr Yousaf should realise that the statistics are being manipulated by the PEOPLE RECORDING IT.

There is a pattern of men who are self IDing commiting crime but it is not being RECORDED.

It's not about IDing TO. It's about what you are RECORDING.

Popchyk · 13/03/2019 20:27

Article in The Scotsman

www.scotsman.com/news/politics/criminal-suspects-able-to-self-identify-gender-1-4889040

"Mr Yousaf said there was no pattern of men self-identifying as women “to either commit sexual offences or indeed to manipulate statistics”. But he said he was willing to look at the issue in more detail".

How do you know there is no pattern? If you are not capturing data that allows you to identify a pattern?

Richard Garside on Twitter:

"Classifying according to birth sex, rather than subjective feelings about the self, should be the norm. Otherwise, you end up mystifying the key factor in crime and victimisation".

Lemoncakestrudel · 13/03/2019 20:25

Apparently you can self-id if you just happen to put on some lippy. Some of these people don’t even bother with that Angry
