But not being invited to the White House was about racism and a still segregated America. It had nothing to do with a perception that Jesse Owen's abilities and successes as an athlete were inherently unfair because he was a black man.

I saw Oona King give a talk once about how male MPs were up in arms about the introduction of all women shortlists & said she used to point out they didn’t seem to have a problem with single sex shortlists for the last 500+ years when it was all men.

derxa · 12/03/2019 13:16

Do you think enough people will actually stop watching? Because plenty of paying public watch men who beat or rape women play sport. Will males actually participating as women be the point at which the public stop in large enough numbers? Or will feminists be lone voices, again? You really don't get it, do you.

littlbrowndog · 12/03/2019 13:02

So true. Who wants to watch sport like that

derxa · 12/03/2019 12:56

Maybe UK athletics need to realise people like me will no longer pay to go to stadia to watch athletics, if it's to watch no talent beta men steal glory from hard working girls. Absolutely. Athletics is a spectator sport.

TheWeeMacGregors · 12/03/2019 12:36

I haven't read the full thread yet but presumably it's been spotted by someone else that John Regis is in there too?

EcclesThePeacock · 12/03/2019 12:28

The selectivity suggests that the people assiduously reporting posts don't really believe in 'acceptance without exception' at all.

DoctoressPlague · 12/03/2019 12:21

There's definitely a selectiveness to who can be misgendered, and I assume it comes from those who report posts. I always refer to KW as 'he' and those comments haven't been deleted. In a recent thread about the exploitation of a child drag queen, posts or links were deleted for merely linking to a video whose comments included misgendering language (there may have been other 'offences', but the topic of the thread was the video, not the comments posted underneath it on an external site).

What a pathetic, cowardly response from the BBC re Karen White, SarahJ.

This just demonstrates the contempt they have, at the highest levels, for rape victims and actual women.

What kind of organisation could think that reply is acceptable...

LangCleg · 12/03/2019 11:48

So there is this sliding scale of who and who isn't worth of their 'chosen' pronouns.

I find this extremely patronising towards the trans people themselves, actually. It's like a pat on the bloody head.

I just go with initials mostly, to avoid deletions.

RockyFlintstone · 12/03/2019 11:38

*Worthy

RockyFlintstone · 12/03/2019 11:38

Yes, I find the misgendering thing a fine line to tread too.

Like, it's OK to misgender Karen White or Jacinta Brooks because they have abused women and are criminals. But it's not ok to misgender Paris Lees or Shon Faye, who have both said misogynistic stuff and can be quite unpleasant towards women who don't agree with them.

So there is this sliding scale of who and who isn't worth of their 'chosen' pronouns. I don't get it really.

Sticking to biological truth, and avoiding pronouns is generally OK.

Posts do occasionally get deleted by one mod when another wouldn't, they're human. Imperfect, but much better than eg twitter AI!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/03/2019 09:49

Yep! That

We can all pussy foot around the rules and say that transwomen are men, male bodied, males.

We just cannot misgender a specific transwoman, cos we is polite, feminine, playing up to our gender stereotypes, no matter what the provocation!

Learn the rules, play the game... we all know what you mean! As do 'They'

Datun · 12/03/2019 09:38

You can say transwomen are men. HQ want to help the discussion flow, and that's part of the discussion.

When you are referring to specific people, it's a lot trickier. You can still say male bodied, as it's the pivotal point. But you can't misgender with pronouns.

I'm not sure if you can say so and so is male born. I think you can if it is absolutely pertinent to your points, and the rest of the post wasn't gratuitously manning people up.

I think the point they're making is knowing these people are male/men is part of the entire discussion, and so has to be included. But not for specific people, and not gratuitously as a ner ner.

terryleather · 12/03/2019 09:30

It's the MN be nice on FWR rules innit.

I've had a post on the MB thread delete that said MB knows nothing about being a woman because MB is male and I wasn't nice enough about it either.

It stinks but it's MN's ball and it's their rules.

I'm with Lang on this, so it's they or initials/name or person for me.

However, if we call them what they are, our comments are deleted.

Not using the word woman, with or without spaces and qualifications is not against the rules here. You can't delete something that hasn't been said. I don't use it or any other word pertaining to my sex. Try person.

DoctoressPlague · 12/03/2019 09:23

Why should we get deleted? The law doesn't recognise the definition 'transwoman'.
