I just want to say a huge "thank you" to Rachel McKinnon.

They have helped to bring a hugely important topic into the mainstream media, and in doing so have peak-transed thousands of new people!

They have also attracted the attention of numerous iconic female sports stars: Martina and Dame Kelly Holmes, to name just two. This will surely encourage many more women to come forward.

You cannot buy publicity and exposure this good! Smile

Thank you Rachel. You may be a feminist icon after all! (But not quite in the way you envisioned...) Thanks

Oh Rachel I so hope you get to compete in the Olympics. Imagine the world at your dainty feet, lauded as a gold medal winning woman. Sharron's only got a silver (because of drug cheats but you're different). Can you imagine standing head and shoulders above the losers while the world looks on?

EcclesThePeacock · 07/03/2019 23:57

I'm sure there should be some way to get 'verschlimmbessern', 'zeitgeist' and 'schadenfreude' into one sentence (or, quite possibly, one word).

Fairenuff · 07/03/2019 23:54

The Germans have all the best words. What a great language!

SophoclesTheFox · 07/03/2019 23:51

I love that word, fairenuff, trust the Germans to nail it Grin

SophoclesTheFox · 07/03/2019 23:50

Yes, thanks Rachel! We truly can say that no-one has done more to get the issue of transwomen competing in women’s sports on the agenda. You really have made people sit up and notice.

Sadly, the thing that they mostly do after the sitting up and taking notice is heartily disagree with you and start lobbying to change the rules that let you in. Ah well, you win some, you lose some, eh?

That orchestra tweet - what a non-sequitur. Though strangely typical of McK, whose thesis was after all on how truth doesn't matter if you tell a lie assertively enough; McK's idea of arguing seems to go "P on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, not P the rest of the week, and affirm the consequent on days with a y in them." I fear that they may have skipped the formal logic component of their philosophical training.

(However on the subject of sex discrimination, Malcolm Gladwell has some interesting stuff on how orchestras, particularly for section leader's chairs, were male dominated until they introduced auditions behind screens!)

Fairenuff · 07/03/2019 23:33

There's a German verb which is perfect to describe what Rachel has done recently:

'verschlimmbessern (the verb verschlimm means “to make things worse” and the verb verbessern means “to improve”). This word literally equates to making something worse during the act of trying to improve it.'

In trying to stop any debate on the subject she has dragged it right into the spotlight.

Well done Rachel.

I believe it's also known as 'the Streisand effect'.

StephsCaddy · 07/03/2019 23:30

I’d like to thank Rachel in pointing out that women with penises are biologically female. Your tireless work has peak transed thousands of people.

I foresee another paper in the pipeline. ‘An exploration of projected delusion and applied twatery.’

FetchezLaVache · 07/03/2019 23:28

This is my favourite McKinnon Tweet - it's so utterly, utterly obtuse and delightfully patronising!

I’d like RM to be on radio and TV every day.

Petition?

AncientLights · 07/03/2019 23:24

I think I see an earring in the pic of McK on a bike - nice girly touch there. I take it McK knows about cultures that pierce the ear lobes of baby girls so people can tell that they are girls and not boys. Generally this becomes irrelevant after a certain age 'cos most of us can tell by eyeballing. But on occasions it may be necessary to continue just for clarity. Wouldn't want to make a mistake like that.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 07/03/2019 23:13

See not 'rise'

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 07/03/2019 23:13

Ha! I've not seen that one before - it's a classic. Can RmK really not see what is blindingly obvious to everyone rise?

Blueblueyellow · 07/03/2019 23:08

Fermats I was thinking the same about a gallery of screen grabs. This one made me bang my head off the wall. But goes nicely with what the op says.

Even the most bitter and vicious TRAs are ever so slightly worried about the overplaying of the hand. Well done!

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 07/03/2019 22:54

I wish I had a screenshot of McKinnon tweeting that lesbians should get over their genital hangups.

DeRigueurMortis · 07/03/2019 22:53

I'm more than happy to raise a glass to RM.

If anyone has done more to rouse prominent women in sport to speak out, I'm not aware of it.

What's key is that whilst sport might be the "entry" into the debate for many people it absolutely refutes the TWAW mantra and you can't say "TWAW apart from sports...."

If you do agree that biological males should be allowed to compete against women then your misogyny is unmasked.

From there the house of cards starts to fall.

donajimena · 07/03/2019 22:50

I'm fucking sick and tired of the yells of transphobe. Disagreeing with a point of view in a non confrontational manner is NOT transphobic.

Courday · 07/03/2019 22:50

Credit where credit is due.
No-one has done more to bring attention to the intolerant, selfish, bullying nature of the extreme end of the trans activists.

Just think Rachel, (and I know you will read this) if only you had been polite to Martina last year? If only, you could have been a heroine of the trans movement, working with Martina to fulfil your dreams of allowing transwomen to compete against women with no restrictions. Instead, now look what you have done. Look at what you have done.

Oh and you just keep attacking icons of British sport like Sharron and Kelly and even more thousands will be exposed to the sensation of "peak-trans"

glitterbiscuits · 07/03/2019 22:48

I've started following lots of female sports people on Twitter.
I hate sport.
But I know wrong from right.

BlodwynBludd · 07/03/2019 22:48

People who have previously said that my views on sex vs gender are outdated are openly talking about this issue in ways I had hit thought possible. Trans persons in sport has definitely started a much needed debate so I thank you is in order!
