Opting out of trans and LGB lessons

My daughter is objecting to her school making her do LGBT sessions this month. She does not want to go to school for that week. She doesn't see why she has to learn about it, believes you can love whoever you want to love, be whoever you want to be but that you can't change sex.
Can see object or rather me on her behalf? Or maybe a better question is how I can get her to make the most of these sessions.

I don't know why the word lesbian isn't included in the vocabulary though.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/03/2019 21:03

Hmmm my memory was rusty; I think this was what I saw for SEND pupils and I can't see the PowerPoint, though the lesson seems ok from this (from a talking about Frida way; it could be better as a lesson tbh - why we need two 'dieds' on the vocab list I'm not sure - sloppy proof?)

Apologies I think I did some googling when I read it which may have led me to more info about her.

I’m still boggling about a piece I read yesterday of a ‘gay’ man and trans man having a baby (in the traditional way - so your normal man and woman sex stuff). Does not compute...

Birdsfoottrefoil · 07/03/2019 20:55

Apart from other lesbians with ladydicks of course; they are allowed to just want to sleep with dull lesbians with vaginas who can be called ‘bigots’ and ‘transphobes’ If they don’t agree to sex with ladydicks.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/03/2019 20:55

Sorry I forgot the boy lesbians 👏

Birdsfoottrefoil · 07/03/2019 20:53

But they dooo like lesbians and we must all worship at the alter of lesbian ladydicks.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/03/2019 20:48

Ohhhh they don’t like lesbians. They used to - but now they aren’t so keen.

I guess they aren’t ‘pretty and fabulous’ enough for them (and the refusal of the nasty lesbians to sleep with ‘women with a willy’ is the clincher)

pocketdelia · 07/03/2019 20:41

Apologies for the slight highjack. Just interested in what Stonewall says about Lesbians and Trans you disagree with OP? Genuine question. Smile

ForumGirl · 07/03/2019 20:29

Great. Will be interesting to hear what comes back from the head.

SparklySneakers · 07/03/2019 20:17

Thank you ForumGirl that's good to know.
I've emailed the head and will see if they reply and with what. My email was firm and clear that I disagreed with the teachings of stonewall regarding trans and their attitude towards lesbians.

It is also your legal right to withdraw your child from lessons where you wish to do so.

Relevant acts etc include Articles 8 and 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights and, specifically in relation to education,
Section 85(2) of the Equality Act 2010,
Sections 9 and 405 of the Education Act 1996,
Section 28 of the Education (Scotland) Act 1980,
Article 44 of The Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1986
Article 2 of European Convention on Human Rights Protocol 1

If the school insist on forcing your child to attend and if your child wanted to go that far you can take them to court. The school/ local authority would be demolished in court.

ForumGirl · 07/03/2019 19:56

If you are in the EU that is.

ForumGirl · 07/03/2019 19:55

LGBT curriculum is not required by law and your child cannot be forced to attend.

^European Convention on Human Rights Protocol 1 ARTICLE 2 Right to education states:
In the exercise of any functions which it assumes in relation to education and to teaching, the State shall respect the right of parents to ensure such education and teaching in conformity with their own religious and philosophical convictions.^

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/03/2019 19:27

its I don't remember seeing that in the material I saw (but wouldn't be surprised if it's elsewhere).

I'll go back and double check though.

RepealTheGRA · 07/03/2019 19:26

I'm not in England

Oh Sad

Where are you? What’s the legal position? Are there parent support groups?

Lulapointless · 07/03/2019 19:25

I'm not in England.

RepealTheGRA · 07/03/2019 19:11

Lulapointless

How can there not be governors? Are you not U.K.?

Aloneinmyhead · 07/03/2019 19:10

My DD has been told there is no right to be withdrawn from these classes as it it not sex education. She is doing a block of lessons and says they are all about T and not LGB but described as being LGBT. Pupils will be excluded if they don't engage appropriately

That doesn't sound right. Why would you lose your job? PM me the name of the school and I'll be happy to ask exactly what has been said, especially about exclusion and talk to the head.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/03/2019 19:06

FTS. I would be asking to meet with the head to enquire as to what The Plan was and where the information was coming from. You may be pleasantly surprised but with stonewall doing the honors, I suspect not.

Lulapointless · 07/03/2019 18:56

There are no governors. I can't contact anyone about this as I would lose my job.

RepealTheGRA · 07/03/2019 18:32

Pupils will be excluded if they don't engage appropriately

WTAF is ‘engaging appropriately’?

That sounds like a complaint to the governors reminding them of articles 9 and 10 of HRA.

I’m all for inclusion and teaching children to be kind but indoctrinating them into an ideology is wrong and illegal.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/03/2019 18:31

I did see a great lesson on stonewall's website on Frida Kahlo.

Hasn't she been retrospectively transed?

kesstrel · 07/03/2019 18:22

Is it possible she is worried about having to "participate" in activities, for example small groups where she might have to conceal her views for fear of being labelled transphobic? That kind of activity happens a lot in schools.

RedHoodGirl · 07/03/2019 18:17

My DD had similar in year 7. As mentioned by some others, it’ll just be during the half an hour of form time and the weekly assembly, so not much really. It more than just LGBT and extends to other areas as well, like keeping yourself safe in relationships and online - so definitely relevant. Teaching about diversity is more about recognising and appreciating differences and acceptance of everyone. If it’s threaded into other classes it’ll most likely be science, where they might cover biology etc. I honestly wouldn’t worry, and would encourage your DD to go, listen and ask questions if she has any?
