James has laid it all out

don't think pointing out on Twitter will do any good. They aren't some neutral group with no skin in the game. They won't give a jot about damage to women.

I think you are right, sadly. I was more thinking of their followers (90K+) who might not realise what they are actually dismissing. I used to think stop funding hate were a good thing.

ThePankhurstConnection · 04/03/2019 12:39

Very good article, comprehensive and clear. Thank you once again James for writing about this.

I applaud the Mail for covering this when other media outlets have shied away, although the side bar of shame reminded me why I am not a Mail reader. It did inform me that Keith Flint is dead however - which is sad.

HumberElla · 04/03/2019 11:45

Oh was that the DM building? That's interesting. Not exactly a master class on how to make friends and influence people, that's for sure.

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 04/03/2019 11:35

Did anyone else think when the TRAs let off that smoke bomb in the Mail building that they'd just shot themselves in the foot and now it's all starting to show?

Stop Funding Hate are a dodgy group themselves. Employ a lot of far tactics similar to Antifa.

Obviously the DM are going have their own bias on this but I've seen enough about this org that suggests a dangerous and totalitarian mindset.

Twitter won’t let me comment at the moment but if anyone can explain to Stop Funding Hate why their above tweet is in fact spreading hate against women who wish to set boundaries please please do.

Lumene · 04/03/2019 10:50

Stop Funding Hate have decided to take issue with the points in this article which are standing up for women’s rights, where they conflict with the demands of TRAs. So many ways this is wrong. Women’s rights aren’t hate.

Great article-especially the comments re: Penny Mordaunt swithering. I see ForwomenScot have posted suggestions for Scottish women to write to MPs about this (non devolved) legislation, as joining Resisters United (UK/Irish groups) for this Day of Action: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3519928-UPDATE-CONTACT-VISIT-YOUR-MP-FOR-INTERNATIONAL-WOMENS-DAY

RiotAndAlarum · 03/03/2019 18:34

That is a really good, really calm and logical explanation. He also reminds us all (hopefully also trans rights activists):

Trans individuals suffer above-average levels of mental illness, poor physical health and yes, discrimination. Yet none of those problems is helped by aggressive lobbyists trying to enforce an agenda and silence dissent. A calm and even mundane debate would serve transgender people better.

Nutellavore · 03/03/2019 18:05

Today, for the first time in my life, I bought a paper copy of the Mail on Sunday.

It has actually come to this. But the leftist media has sold women down the river on this issue while the Mail has actually done some serious reporting. Shocking.

Melroses · 03/03/2019 17:56

James Kirkup does a fantastic job of wading through the many miles of evidence and digging down to the structure of how it all works.

Then presenting it in the right order, and in plain English.

I have followed this for some time and there is so much gaslighting it makes my brain hurt, but JK makes it look easy. So refreshing.

theOtherPamAyres · 03/03/2019 17:41

gender neutral baby: the connection to trans issues

The Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex are supporters of Mermaids. They hosted a reception to which Susie Green was invited and Harry described their work as "amazing". Royal endorsement of Mermaids was a stamp of approval that opened doors to further funding.

James K does another magnificent job talking about the consequences of the pernicious rise of transgender activism under this government; the piss-poor response from Opposition and other MPs and the effects on public services like the police.

He deserves an award.

Fabulous thank you James Flowers

We can also "like" the GC comments our comment ourselves. I did!

andyoldlabour · 03/03/2019 12:19

Well done James Kirkup!
Any chance of seeing articles similar to this in the Guardian or Independent?
No, I thought not.

PiebaldHamster · 03/03/2019 12:17

Bravo!

Macareaux · 03/03/2019 12:16

Brilliant James

A small plea - can we move to avoiding female pronouns for males even if it's by just referring to them as their name repeatedly.

I'd rather have clunky and honest than wrong and pandering.

Using 'she' for males (such as KW) grates and also reinforces a category error. KW is legally male. Therefore KW is not a she.

Mner2019 · 03/03/2019 11:40

Excellent article. Thorough and well reasoned.

LizzieSiddal · 03/03/2019 11:04

If the Duke & Duchess' baby does not conform to sex-based stereotypes and is seen in baby clothes which are not stereotypically associated with boy/girl it will have a hugely significant impact.

I agree, lets hope they do this. It's how we should all be bringing up our children.

RaffertyFair · 03/03/2019 11:02

transwoman

RaffertyFair · 03/03/2019 11:01

WhereYouLeftIt Well worth pointing out highlighting his use of "trasnwoman"

The difference in language may appear subtle but is actually massively important.

R0wantrees · 03/03/2019 10:59

The mail has 4 stories today. I think they are going for a an anti duchess of Cambridge vibe as they are also saying her child will be ‘gender fluid’

If the Duke & Duchess' baby does not conform to sex-based stereotypes and is seen in baby clothes which are not stereotypically associated with boy/girl it will have a hugely significant impact.

The pale pink for girl / pale ble for a boy is a relatively recent phenomena.

Decisions that a couple such as this make with regards simply how they dress their child may do great things.

Perhaps this is the dawn of babies wearing baby clothes and toys being toys? It could be a big shift back.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/03/2019 10:52

I hope the MOS has paid James lots and lots of dosh for this and I hope it will print more pieces from him. He's been pursuing this topic for a long time and is so very well-informed.

I would love to see an article focussing on the shadowy figures driving this and their backgrounds - Fae, Challenors, Alex Wotsit, Bradley etc etc. The public would be horrified if they knew the half of what we know.

Can I plea for everyone to keep clicking the article? The more footfall it gets the better
