Yep white tight fitting clothes for women in sports is just ridiculous.
If ever there was a giant flag waving "patriarchy here", that's it.

andyoldlabour · 06/03/2019 13:01

Vixxxy

"Meanwhile, all other science says males have an advantage over females, as does common fucking sense."

That is biological science, and is backed up by the latest transwoman cyclist Natalie Van Gogh, who at 44 years of age seems to be getting better and stronger against the professional women on the UCI classics stage. The latest is a 26th place at Le Samyn des Dames, a course which wouldn't exactly favour a larger rider. Only a 110 finished out of a field of 160.

Thanks MeAgain. I pointed it out as an obvious biological difference between Male and female athletes but of course there are many more implications for sportswomen. As one competitor said, it’s not nice having to wear compulsory short white skirts with frequently visible white knickers while having a 4K camera filming you close up from behind. But I doubt it was women who set the dress code.

jay55 · 06/03/2019 12:54

I imagine that top sportswomen, especially in tennis fly so much that birth control that stops periods isn't suitable due to dvt risk.

MeAgainAgain · 06/03/2019 12:49

Thank you for that telegraph article provincial, really interesting.

i wonder if the tennis (and other sports bodies) took on board the idea / suggestion to educate young female players around periods? It would be great if they did, I would't be surprised if they didn't

The fact of so many sports having compulsory white gear is bound to be a reason that girls stop doing them around puberty TBH it's just such an obvious thing.

Please everyone screen shot any abuse... do not be abusive back. We can hold our heads up because all we want is biological definition for fair sport .. after huge strides in female sport in recent years we can’t silently stand by & see an injustice #fairplay4females

Provincialbelle · 06/03/2019 12:35

www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/11705459/Wimbledon-2015-Champion-Kvitova-says-periods-in-tennis-are-difficult.html

Just one more example of biological difference. It seems a couple of years ago people were finally being open and honest about women’s sport. Now women’s sport is being made a farce.

MeAgainAgain · 06/03/2019 12:21

canada winter games are happening on self id this year

wil be interesting to see what that looks like

imagine canadian people on both sides of this will keep the world updated

MeAgainAgain · 06/03/2019 12:20

The post ignores stuff like USA girls soon to be missing out on scholarships to university (route out of poverty in usa) due to transgirls with no changes to their hormones or anything competing against them.

note i am not in favour of giving transgirls hormones!

they shouldn't be competing against girls irrespective of what drugs or surgeries they may have had anyway

MillytantForceit · 06/03/2019 12:17

"The rules changed in 2004"

and

"It has been scientifically proven there is no advantage"

If you were remotely interested in the argument, would you not at least check the sources of these claims before repeating them?

(See also - Did we really land on the moon?)

BettyDuMonde · 06/03/2019 12:13

Tannehill’’s stuff begins by overlooking that the rule that allowed trans athletes to compete as women from 2004 made full genital surgery compulsory. 80% of MtF transpeople retain their male genitalia. Those that do have the surgery often have it later in life, ie, after the point of a viable athletic career.

The 2015 rule change does away with the surgery rule, Instead it requires (at least) two recorded testosterone levels, 1 year apart.

We haven’t yet had an Olympics that feasibly allows trans competitors under this new rule, and it’s this rule that female elite athletes are protesting against.

Failure to set this out means the rest of Tannehill’s argument is presented disingenuously.

Try Dr Fond of Beetles or FPFW instead:

MeAgainAgain · 06/03/2019 12:03

I want the answer to this question:

Can a man with reduced testosterone who is not trans complete against the women if he wishes?

If not why not.

MeAgainAgain · 06/03/2019 12:02

"They clearly haven't seen someone who's been on a T-blocker and estradiol for two years trying to open a jar."

What is this shit right here.

A weakened man =/= a woman.

What a misogynist.

ShagMeRiggins · 06/03/2019 11:56

This tweeter argues that transgender athletes pose no threat and seems to at least be reasonable in the language used. She also has a book coming out. As I don’t know enough about the facts of transgender women in sport, I’m curious what you all think.

For the pp wondering how to get in touch, I dropped Sharron an email of support via her website - sharrondavies.com. Hopefully it makes its way to her, even if it only gets added to the pile of general support Grin

All McKinnon has is emotional manipulation and personal slurs, so knickers to that. Misogynists always think that women should crumble if they’re accused of being manly or masculine. I’m sure Sharron’s heard worse -Hope it gives her a laugh at least because, well...there’s something about pots...or kettles...or something...

I think RK is doing wonders for "the other side" The Zuby effect without the lols

TundraDweller · 06/03/2019 09:51

Sarah Vine weighs in. I was worried in the middle that she was going to blame the whole thing on “feminists” but thankfully she doesn’t.

It’s a weak conclusion though, totally missing the nuances of the arguments - that adult male physiological advantage is conferred by more than just weight.

UndersAndOvers · 06/03/2019 09:13

Haha - even the photographer didn't know Rachel was an transwo man - yeah, right!

zanahoria · 06/03/2019 08:51

"see, the thing is, for most trans women athletes, PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WE'RE TRANS UNLESS YOU TELL THEM (or in my case, they can Google it) "

mobile.twitter.com/rachelvmckinnon/status/1103054211187654656

sure, nobody would have a clue

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 06/03/2019 08:49

Yes, but then the BBC have a history of giving jobs to sex offenders.

zanahoria · 06/03/2019 08:47

Its worth remembering Boy George is a sex offender. He chained a man to a radiator and beat him up.

The BBC still gave him a job on The Voice after that.

jay55 · 06/03/2019 08:38

I've reported the tweet. I'm so tired of Dr M shouting the world down. Screenshots exist and can be sent to any program that gives the entitled one airtime.

UrsulaPandress · 06/03/2019 08:31

Fucking chameleon.

FermatsTheorem · 06/03/2019 08:29

Aside from the outright nastiness of KcKinnon's tweet, it shows up the salient clash of worldviews rather nicely.

For TRAs the reasoning goes: proper womanhood lies in looking like Barbie (not my catastrophising misrepresentation of their views: this is on the jellybabies from Barbie to GI Joe poster that GIRES use in their "educational" outreach work). Therefore I (not passing 100%) am no different in appearance from women who fail to look like Barbie (which let's face it is all of us unless we've had extensive Kardashian-esque plastic surgery). So if people want to argue that I shouldn't be allowed into women's sports, neither should any woman who fails to look like Barbie.

Whereas GC feminists are saying "no, you shouldn't be in women's sports because, regardless of what plastic surgery and hormone regime you undertake, you retain the underlying male physiology you were born with. Doesn't matter whether you look like Barbie or look like GI Joe, you have male physiology, which gives you an immense competitive advantage over people with a female physiology."
