Exactly AuntyCJ. And they still pretend to be women and mainsplain what it means

AuntieCJ · 07/03/2019 08:11

Such jealousy. Sharon is all woman. Something they will never be and, my, how they hate her for it.

EweSurname · 07/03/2019 05:20

Sister Outrider

“...a woman is tremendously controlled by what the man’s imagination makes of her - literally, hour by hour, day by day; so she becomes a woman. But a man exists inside his own imagination, and can never be at the mercy of a woman’s.” - James Baldwin, If Beale Street Could Talk

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 07/03/2019 00:02

Quite, pombear. This is why there was that silly nonsense criticizing Will Smith's son for wearing a skirt as a male while not being trans - if those items are no longer coded 'female', how would the author be able to express their inner female identity?

And all those ridiculous come backs to women who say "I don't 'identify' as a woman" that say "Well, you aren't a woman then. You're something else."

Exactly as you say - and I am sure this is one of Bewilderness's rules - women must be exactly as men define, so that they may be more readily appropriated when required. This is precisely why 'cis' is so monumentally offensive - it is not just a description, it's a demand that women do as they are told.

redredrobins · 06/03/2019 23:59

I think when RMK says sharron looks like a transwoman she means that she wishes transwomen looked like that.
Dream on RMK!

pombear · 06/03/2019 23:45

Exactly Floral.

It's the ultimate problem for those who conflate sex with gender.

If 'you look like a man' is an insult for women.

Those women (and transwomen) who feel hurt?

Maybe they may (and I recognise I'm projecting here so other's perspective is very welcome) be upset because they feel that someone hasn't 'read' their performance of gender norms as being 'a woman' wrong, despite their understanding of their own biological presentation.

But even if she did, she isn't a man so it doesn't affect anything at all.

This is what challenges those who want to 'opt-in' to gender stereotypes. You and Sharron have to adhere to the stereotypes, otherwise there's nothing for them to opt into.

Where do you go, when you're a male who feels 'female' if the 'females' are not bothered whether they're read as men or women?

Women - stick to your boxes, so others can 'opt-in' to them!

.

pombear · 06/03/2019 23:37

Brilliant gif! Thanks Kate Lees.

Though I (and some other women on this board?) probably look more like our lovely RMK than Sharon.

But I still don't need validation from others (especially those males performing 'femininity', even more those undergoing facial feminisation surgery, as to whether I'm veering away in the 'eyeball test' from SD to RMK.}

Because, guess what. Biology. (Booo - bad word used!) We know who we are.

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 06/03/2019 23:33

The 'You look like a man' thing is so bloody weird. It gets thrown at the Williams sisters too. I've been told I 'walk like a bloke' before now. It's a fascinating insult from people who think they are breaking gender binaries - they think that when we tell men they look like men, we are doing it as a value judgement, as an insult, when it's just a recognition of reality. So their response is to hurl wounded insults based entirely on their projected insecurity.

Seriously, why would it wound me to tell me I 'look like a man' if you reject a gender binary? Why would it be relevant? This isn't about appearance, or clothing, or identity - it's about empirical fact. Sharron Davies clearly doesn't look like a man. But even if she did, she isn't a man so it doesn't affect anything at all.

Libyans are easy to defeat if you nick their plutonium, too. Just get them to drive into a little photo developing booth in a camper van and you're golden.

TinselAngel · 06/03/2019 23:21

Like with the Pugilators (giant cotton buds) on Gladiators.

In the meantime, imagines a struggle between Rufus and Datun in the arm wars. Keep your body parts women!

pombear · 06/03/2019 23:15

(I think they could be challenged as being a little transphobic there!)

pombear · 06/03/2019 23:14

Thing is, most of us women who are women (no qualifier needed here), who are of a certain age, have come through the slings and arrows insults stage, and lots of us, no matter how we 'present', would tolerate a 'you look like a man' insult pretty sturdily.

It's interesting, isn't it, that males (usually in their 30s/40s/50s who are presenting/identifying/believing they are women) are the ones who think slinging such an insult will touch the sides.

I call projection. Because it would hurt them to have the trans/male thing slung at them.

They just don't get it.

Oooh, you look a bit like a man.

Er, OK, whatever, I know who I am. Whatever! Any-hoo, about this female single sex spaces, sports, prisons thing...

Meanwhile, in gender-fluid world, what indeed looks 'like a man' or 'trans? (Are they saying 'trans' is hinting at 'male-bodied'?!) Cos, surely, none of us know what a 'man' and a 'woman' is, what with all this sciencey stuff telling us it's not a thing anymore? Just your feelz.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/03/2019 22:59

Nope we're ok

Apparently we have tons of unradiated plutonium in the uk

That does not sound safe at all...

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/03/2019 22:58

tinsel

Fair point, complete lack of effort on my part there

Im a bit scared to google plutonium stockists...is libya still the best place?

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 06/03/2019 22:50

I'm quite happy with my squishy, squashy bod. Because my body, like Sharron's, has served me well to achieve things, despite the disadvantages we've both laboured under. I am extremely grateful that we've both been able use our brains and voices to speak up for other women, just like so many other women, known or unknown.

Because that's how I know my daughters will thrive, and how I have hope that other women and girls will thrive too - women in all sorts of shapes, sizes and interests who are willing to speak up for each other in the face of self-absorbed men who live in a fantasy world and would strip women of their rights and protections.

Datun · 06/03/2019 22:45

Sharron's daughter, not Rufus.

Datun · 06/03/2019 22:45

It's commendable that she's attempting to defuse and keep it cool, Trig.

But it won't work.

TinselAngel · 06/03/2019 22:43

God Rufus, steal some plutonium from some Libyans, invent the flux capacitor and get it sorted.

Datun · 06/03/2019 22:43

Less so to yours

It's fairly competent, even if I do say so myself.

Maybe a finger. Or a toe.

Provincialbelle · 06/03/2019 22:42

Message from Sharron’s 20 year old daughter: twitter.com/graciedredmond/status/1103314168860631041?s=21

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/03/2019 22:38

No offence datun

Its just I'm quite attached to my arm

Less so to yours Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/03/2019 22:36

I'll be 75 tinsel

Its not gonna look the same Sad

TinselAngel · 06/03/2019 22:36

If you train for about 25 years, you could!
