United Nations runs ad campaign saying it's discrimination not to have sex with transpeople

See here:
twitter.com/Journal_UN_ONU/status/968233238778073089 (in French)
twitter.com/ADS_Bund/status/969150422484123648 (in English, retweeted by the German Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency)
(and in other places too)

There are a whole bunch of other ads e.g., 'would you still want him on the Football team if he was gay' 'would you still support your son if he was gay' 'would you still eat his food if he had AIDS'

which all make sense, but for some reason a sexual relationship is only mandatory if a person identifies a trans.

In this case it's a photo of a man kissing a woman (with a strongly implied sexual context) however the exact same argument is the 'cotton ceiling' used by the vilest TRAs to say women should be obligated to have sex with them.

What they are really meaning to say is 'Would you still love her if you found out she was transgender' which is an entirely different thing.

That means that you already love the person but on discovering they are transgender you ditch them. That is the discrimination to which they are alluding.

But they can't say that because it implies deceit on the side of the transgender person for not being honest about their past. Finding out that the person you love has kept such a big secret from you might indeed change your opinion of them.

Melroses · 02/03/2019 11:13

Gay rights, sexual liberation in the 60s, sex outside of marriage etc was all about freeing people from the constraints that society put on them as to who they should have sex with.

This isn't.

andyoldlabour · 02/03/2019 11:11

Your body, your mind, your choice and if anyone insists that you must deny all that, then just tell them to STFU.
So, to sum up: for one very minor group of people, 99.5% of the rest of us lose our ability to make a choice about life?

OldCrone · 02/03/2019 10:58

If you abide by their demand to not discriminate against the transwoman, you're denying sexual orientation. Homosexual or heterosexual.

Exactly. Having a sexual orientation is transphobic.

Datun · 02/03/2019 10:50

Sexual preference is discriminatory by its very nature. Also adds like this are basically saying 'homosexuality' (or any sexuality really besides 'pan') is wrong and bigoted..which looks great alongside the other ads hmm

Exactly. The disconnect is overwhelming.

If you abide by their demand to not discriminate against the transwoman, you're denying sexual orientation. Homosexual or heterosexual.

It's setting you up to fail whatever you do. And it knows it. But 'failing' at homosexuality doesn't matter, as long as transwomen are centred.

I've been discriminated against my entire life because I'm facially not very good looking and have been on-and-off overweight since childhood. I'm also a straight up and down shape that doesn't look very feminine. In my 20s and 30s I had bad skin. I know there are jobs I didn't get ('Oh, we see this very much as a front-of-house role and I'm afraid...' disapproving look up and down), I know there are salaries I never managed to achieve, I know there are people who wouldn't consider having a relationship with me because they didn't like the way I look. I know that at parties, on trains and planes, on holidays, in theatres and hotels and shops and cinemas people size me up and know what they think of me before I've had a chance to show them what good company I am. I can never pass as a lovely, feminine woman even though I'm woman through and through. Thankfully, as I get older, the discrimination against the way I look has turned into more general discrimination against my age...

Where's the campaign urging the world not to discriminate against me and all the millions of ordinary people like me, eh?

RockyFlintstone · 02/03/2019 10:36

This is crazy you cant force people to be attracted to what they're not.

And once again, this is where tacking the T onto LGB falls right off a cliff.

The entire gay rights movement was about people having the right to have sex with who they want. To 'discriminate' against whoever they like when it comes to attraction (in that case, people of the opposite sex) and not be persecuted for it.

It's so illogical my head just can't take it!

OldCrone · 02/03/2019 10:21

I've heard of that happening in real life, Cheerio. There was a case in the USA (I think), where the man, on discovering the unexpected genitalia, killed the transwoman. Which of course feeds into the terrible murder stats for trans people.

OldCrone · 02/03/2019 10:14

Thinking of the case that Kat linked to earlier in this thread, about the 'man with no penis'. If the wording on the poster was changed to 'Would you still love him if he were transgender?' it would make the transman the victim and the women he deceived horrendous bigots.

Is that really what they're trying to say?

Beamur · 02/03/2019 10:14

Bonkers.
Sexual intercourse, is driven fundamentally by reproduction. We are hard wired to 'know' potentially fertile and receptive partners. Same sex attraction, whilst the risk/opportunity for pregnancy is not there is nonetheless driven by innate preference. You don't need to learn who you are attracted to. Consensual sex between adults is purely up to them.
Anyone seeking a partner with which to procreate, is less likely to choose someone who is infertile. This is not discrimination, it is choice.

CheerioHunter · 02/03/2019 10:12

Fair point Funky - And yeah, you're right!

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 02/03/2019 10:07

Cheerio- no, he probably wouldn’t. Straight men don’t get drawn into this really- mainly because so many TW are ‘lesbians’. If it was a lesbian on the other hand, she would be the most evil thing that ever lived unless she was delighted to see a penis.

CheerioHunter · 02/03/2019 10:05

I've never know it happen other than on TV, so I'm not making it out to be a real life issue.
But in the past, when a guy meets a "woman" in a bar, they go home and get down to it, then discovers "she's" got a bigger cock swinging around down there than him and is sickened/outraged etc.

I just imagine these days, it would be that guy would be crucified for being a bigoted transphobe for running out when he discovered there were 2 more balls in the bed than he expected.

This world is so messed up. I shudder to think what's coming next.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 02/03/2019 10:04

AncientLight, you’re right- it’s Alex Sharpe. Who now describes themselves as a lesbian in their twitter bio. Has only been trans for about 7 years and before that rose through the ranks to become a prof as a white, heterosexual male. Now the most oppressed of the oppressed apparently. But zero experience of actually building a career as a lesbian woman. It’s easier when all you need to do is ask HR to change your email and door-sign rather than fighting discrimination your whole life.

sackrifice · 02/03/2019 10:00

Soon the backlash of 'straight men don't do dick' will be upon us.

It was only a matter of time: First they came for the lesbians etc etc.

BickerinBrattle · 02/03/2019 09:59

Yet another way in which genderism is rape culture writ large — no one but they are permitted boundaries.

Vixxxy · 02/03/2019 09:56

Sexual preference is discriminatory by its very nature. Also adds like this are basically saying 'homosexuality' (or any sexuality really besides 'pan') is wrong and bigoted..which looks great alongside the other ads Hmm

AncientLights · 02/03/2019 09:53

Knicknack it wasn't Whittle, I'm fairly sure it's Prof Alex Sharpe of Keele? Uni.

This stuff infuriates me. Who we choose to have personal relationships with, esp intimate ones, is no business of the state or anyone else.

LangCleg · 02/03/2019 09:44

I don't get it, statistically approx a quarter of transwomen, globally, have HIV, and two thirds report never having been tested.

Are they saying that they shouldn't be upfront about belonging to a high risk cohort, and moralising over people who think they should? But they're an AIDS prevention charity?

Well, my thoughts precisely.

Unsurprisingly enough, the UNAIDS top bloke is one of the ones who has to resign due to the abuse scandals in the third sector:

Knicknackpaddyflak · 02/03/2019 09:43

Isn't it Whittle who is working hard to remove the right to bodily autonomy? And believes that if you discover that the person you are having sex with is not of the sex they led you to believe, you should have no legal right of protest. Because

a) apparently it's your transphobia that you have a sexual preference that involves biology

and

b) the trans person's right to privacy would be infringed

The person misled, and their right to bodily autonomy, and their right to have made an informed choice, their feelings, their preferences, obviously don't matter. Difference in entitlement: straight out of Lundy Bancroft 'why does he do that' re abusive men.

You have to have a serious deficit in your theory of mind, empathy and basic ability to respect anyone else to believe in this stuff.

DoctoressPlague · 02/03/2019 09:33

Discrimination? The word has a legal meaning. Does the UN really want to conflate the real issues LGB people face with transgender people not getting sex (or "love") with who they want?
Can lesbians be accused of discrimination if they change their minds when they see that their date is a male?
We're supposed to be teaching boys and girls that it's ok to say NO at any time, but this nonsense suggests that you can't stop once you've started, because discrimination.

RepealTheGRA · 02/03/2019 09:30

So they’re now targeting straight men, who don’t want to sleep with men? This is going to go well.

WeRiseUp · 02/03/2019 09:27

I’m glad they’ve targeted it at straight men.

I thought that at first but now reckon it's a trojan horse. All men believe in the sovereignty of their own boners and entitlement to let them lead the way (why else is it straight women and gay men who are so obsessed with their appearance winning boner-approved looks, but straight men and lesbian women can be more laid back?). So this message will be like water off a ducks back to them - apart from, of course, if they already like shagging tw as a kink, they will now feel morally approved by the UN and superior about it "Wahey! My boner is also my moral compass! Get in!".

The only people to absorb this message and feel bad about it will be women and girls - it's the low social status and lack of entitlement thing.

LizzieSiddal · 02/03/2019 08:54

This is shocking but as a PP said, I’m glad they’ve targeted it at straight men.

I’m sure lots of those straight men won’t mind their sexual partner has a penis.Hmm

CarolinePooter · 02/03/2019 08:52

I have replied to their silly tweet but don't suppose any public response will ever stop the wokiness of these orgs.
