Excellent idea - I'll send a card.

Ewe thanks for posting that link of the radio programme.

morningtoncrescent62 · 04/03/2019 18:11

Good idea to send a card - I've emailed her, but I'll send a card as well. She's absolutely storming it at the moment.

VeryLittleOwl · 04/03/2019 18:03

Emailed my MSP to ask her to support Joan's stance - I live in a very, very small village and my MSP is a good friend of one of my neighbours, so hopefully she'll take note of the address at the bottom of the email and reply! (Haven't had a reply from my MP yet, three weeks after emailing him to ask if the Scottish Lib Dems supported Lynne Featherstone's views on GC feminists...)

howonearthdidwegethere · 04/03/2019 17:26

I don't think it matters at all if you're outside Scotland.

Apart from David Davies, Joan is the first elected representative to properly stand up and be counted on this. And I think it would be good for her to know how appreciated she is and for her colleagues to be aware of that too.

Richard Lyle MSP has tweeted support for Joan.

I don’t think so Ewe
It’s no different to Scottish women contacting English MPs about matters that are devolved to Scotland

EweSurname · 04/03/2019 17:08

Would it be strange for non-Scot resident to send a card?

howonearthdidwegethere · 04/03/2019 17:04

Message from a friend:

The MSP's offices are glass fronted so everyone can see in when they walk past. If Joan had a ton of cards, they'd be VERY visible to other MSPs. Just sayin'. Wink

WaddIelikeapenguin · 04/03/2019 16:55

I sent her an email but I like the idea of a card. My MSPs will all be getting a letter asking them to stand with her.

howonearthdidwegethere · 04/03/2019 16:15

She’s not for turning on this. Hooray!

I’ve sent her a card, thanking her for speaking up.

Hope others do to to show other MSPs how greatly appreciated are those who stand up for women (voters).

WaddIelikeapenguin · 04/03/2019 16:08

I took a peek
Facts & evidence!! Doesn’t she know that’s not playing their game Grin

Why the hell aren’t the rest of the MSPs that agree speaking out to support her? Angry

EweSurname · 04/03/2019 11:33

Honestly, her twitter feed is a delight - she's calmly but firmly rebutting false information from the Equality Network with facts and evidence.

WaddIelikeapenguin · 04/03/2019 11:15

Soooo RS’s entire argument is be nice & budge over Hmm

Joan was bloody fantastic & delighted to read that tweet of hers

OvaHere · 04/03/2019 10:43

I just went to read The Times article and was asked to do a survey run by Qualtrics on behalf of The Times.

I got this question Hmm

Someone at The Times should have a word.

Joan McAlpine on sex and census. Wow.

@JoanMcAlpine
Didn't get chance to say on @BBCRadioScot that many more MSPs contacted me privately offering support for personal thread below than signed the open letter published yesterday. Thousands more women - and men - have said thanks. Now we all have to speak up.

Great stuff from Joan McAlpine. We have to be allowed to discuss safeguarding. Not to do so is a betrayal of vulnerable women. Listen from 2.36

OllyBJolly · 04/03/2019 08:37

Brilliant stuff, Joan. I think she's given courage to some of the other SNP women who we'll hear from shortly.

EweSurname · 04/03/2019 07:58

Not sure if this is to discuss the census bill/recent debate about women’s rights but

They also probably couldn't have named FWS because it would have directed all the women who think they are part of a feminist organisation to the FWS website, where they would have read what FWS are about, realised that's what Feminism is, liked it, been 'radicalised' and left Engender.

Orwellianmince · 03/03/2019 15:02

I can read FWS on Twitter though I'm not on it so don't know what shadowban means (though read it means others who don't Follow Account cannot see it) but if sign out of Twitter can read their comments (like me). Here is their website: forwomen.scot/ which, I see, Joan McAlpine has shared too.Flowers
This thread is also relevant as women are again being misrepresented as to what this is all about: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3522766-Some-feminists-Emma-Thompson-amongst-them-sign-letter-decrying-trans-exclusionary-responses-to-the-GRA

EweSurname · 03/03/2019 08:06

@ForWomanScot have been shadow banned on twitter (people who aren’t following them can’t search them or see them)

BetsyM00 · 03/03/2019 01:14

To be fair they couldn't really name FWS without falling foul of data protection rules - after all I'm pretty sure they're the only group to have have been refused membership, and caused such an overhaul of membership rules in order to justify it.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 03/03/2019 00:19

Note that Engender couldn't even bring themselves to name FWS. Almost like grassroots orgs are some horror movie bogie man (say it too often and they'll appear in the mirror to bludgeon you with a copy of the female eunuch). I see the usual suspects are calling them "Nazis" and comparing them to the BNP. Do they really think unevidenced smears will keep working?
