I have just seen this on the www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a3518988-Rachel-McKinnon-weightlifter-and-Abigail-Shrier#prettyPhoto thread posted by Clitherow and felt it needed a separate mention. If I was on twitter I'd follow him!

I think the US has a big problem. It's so entrenched already, and you have Obama who is so loved and who started the whole pro-trans thing, and Trump who upholds the GC stance but is loathed by the left. What are they to do?

This ^

But the GC women over there are looking to the UK to lead the push back.

AssignedFuckerAtBirth · 28/02/2019 12:45

I just tweeted him a link there now Haway

HawayMan · 28/02/2019 12:03

Has anyone sent this thread to him/her?

TwitterLovesMAPs · 28/02/2019 11:35

I’m confused. I’m married but I watched the video and now I think I’m a lesbian?

Does that mean I should trans so that I can be a straight white man?

WeRiseUp · 28/02/2019 10:19

I've spent two days laughing but this morning I've woken up feeling grumpy because yet again - and sorry if I'm misgendering you Zuby - it's people sitting up and taking notice when a man says something.

Agreed, but that's how it is for every low status class of people. I think it's great that Zuby is offering a place on his (her?) platform for feminists though - let's hope women aren't so bloody self-negating they push a male trans ally to take the offer up.

It's an uneasy relationship with male allies and the way I try to see it is that it will take a long time to end the cultural misogyny where women's knowledge, work and opinions are dismissed out of hand as worthless by the vast majority of people (including by other women) so we're forced to play the long game, otherwise we'll go bloody nuts with frustration.

At least the arguments are given an airing and can open up an avenue for female influence when men take them on. They'll still need correcting because of their own bias towards men (Johnny Best has needed this a few times) - but it is opening up avenues. Perhaps we need to get better at pushing women into those openings - since males feel more entitled to be heard than women and will rush in to fill the void.

Recognise that policy should be evidence-based and not partisan!

I posted two things on FB yesterday - one about detransitioners, one about a friend who wrote a book. I have had tonnes of likes and comments on the latter and not a single sausage on the former, not even a single like!? I mean, I'm happy I didn't get the expected pile-on (I have in the past) but not to have anything is just odd...

Same here. Silence on the issue. I have literally hundreds of FB friends and relatives but I only know exactly four of them who are openly GC, and they are all UK writers: one is Posie Parker, the other is Julie Raven (Burchill), the other two are novelist friends. I have hundreds of other novelist friends who have not said a word (as I haven't) though yesterday I noticed that one of them follows glinner.
I am not yet in a position to out myself, unfortunately. But I'm gearing up to do so.
I contribute openly to the GC threads of those four friends, however. I'm never sure who can read my comments on FB.
I have a ton of US "friends" who are very trans-friendly. I think the US has a big problem. It's so entrenched already, and you have Obama who is so loved and who started the whole pro-trans thing, and Trump who upholds the GC stance but is loathed by the left. What are they to do?

I hate to break it to you zubes but I think you just might be a feminist Grin

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 28/02/2019 08:41

although I've just heard the line 'too much love, I could never be a feminist'

I'm not sure Zuby understands what feminism is (the Mumsnet version I mean, not the Jane Fae version)

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 28/02/2019 08:40

I'm listening to Zuby now

lovely enunciation Zuby, I can understand every word Star

nice to hear a woman expressing herself

Xiaoxiong · 28/02/2019 08:30

Rue it was such a perfect image!!! I would have credited you if I'd known who you were. You completely shut that person down.

I mean her! Sorry for misgendering you Zuby. Now I'm thinking we should all get these...

The writing even glows in the dark - how great is that? Agree it could be a code

Maybe I just need coffee. I do love the way the wokesters don't know how to deal with him.

FemalePersonator · 28/02/2019 07:44

This thread is making me laugh. Thank you, Zuby, and everyone who supports him / her. (Covering both bases in case someone reads my post on a Tuesday and reports it to MNHQ for mis-gendering.)

BiologyNotBigotry · 28/02/2019 07:35

I thought his/her comment about not having much in common with feminists was because of his/her very genuine views on his/her* ability to be a woman.

*Delete as appropriate depending on whether s/he is currently attempting to break a record...

NeurotrashWarrior · 28/02/2019 06:41

Lol! Tweet last night:

*What a crazy day...

3,000 more followers.

National records smashed.

And I've become a feminist icon.

See you tomorrow. 😄*

Plus the discount code on his t shirts is DEADLIFT!

NeurotrashWarrior · 28/02/2019 06:36

I don't think many people actually understand what 'feminists' are about/ for etc.

I also think a large number of men disassociate them selves entirely from it as they don't understand it, know it's just for women so let them get on with it, subconsciously feel part of the problem or do think it's something from the past. Women do this too. A large number believe more in equality together (I remember a heated debate about this on a local sling fb group.)

A few will also have subconscious misogyny.

If I'm quite honest I was probably around about there (equal together) about 10 years ago and I know I had to google the word misogyny a few years ago to double check it was what I thought it was (and I'm in my 40's Blush). But I didn't see how much I'd been gaslit to swallow whatever the guardian and general media told me was 'ok.' I'd been taught critical thinking but only to a point.

ContessaIsOnADietDammit · 28/02/2019 06:28

Yes, I gave him a play on Spotify and was pleasantly surprised! Apparently he has a first in computer science from Oxford but decided this was more fun. I'm sure Sacha Baron Cohen can relate Grin Zuby seems a bit less risque though!

ALittleBitofVitriol · 28/02/2019 01:20

Just had a listen and he's not bad actually, fairly clean for rap, didn't hear any nasty misogyny. Some religious background coming through.
Lol'd at this line (from his song 3:16 Stone Cold - which caught my eye thanks to a wrestling fan ex):

^Mix pretty with the gritty
peep the message through the ditties
Haters try to keep me down
I just stay up like fake titties!^

reallyanotherone · 28/02/2019 00:58

I’ve had a listen. Only a couple of songs but no, it doesn’t seem like the usual money and women crap.

Well articulated and clever. Will need to listen a bit more to get a hold of the lyrics but so far much better than drake and all the new whiney male rapper/singers.

RagingWhoreBag · 28/02/2019 00:53

I want to buy one of his t shirts, but I’m worried about his comment that he didn’t think he’d have much in common with feminists - are we all going to end up walking round in Zuby t shirts and then find out his music is all misogynistic shite?! Anyone listened to him yet?!

Courday · 28/02/2019 00:50

This is brilliant. Thank you Ruby for being so #stunning and #brave.
Surely a leading contender for 'women of the year'?

OlennasWimple · 28/02/2019 00:43

Go Zuby!

ToeToToe · 28/02/2019 00:35

Trumpian levels of denial too, MrsTerryPrachett.
