There was a story when trolling as an art form was first rearing its ugly head, quite a few years ago. One woman was banging on about something, it might have been Madeline McCann, I can't remember, and it was pretty horrific, what she was saying.

Turns out she is a normal, middle-class mother living in the Cotswolds, tending to her garden.

The disconnect between her online vitriol, and her real life persona was shocking.

She clearly did not have the imagination (or maybe it's the humanity), to understand the effects of her words.

I believe the entire story ended tragically, as she was eventually overcome by remorse (or shame.)

Internet trolling seems to produce people who have some kind of immunity to what they are actually saying.

And I agree, it needs calling out, every single time. Decent people need to stand up.

I genuinely think that a lot of men feel that they are doing a noble and generous thing by handing over women's events, achievements and spaces to men who they see as "lesser" than they are. They give up nothing themselves but they set about ensuring that women must give up things.

Some of these male journalists should really ask themselves what it is that makes them so eager to believe that men aren't men if they want to look like women.

I want to see top world class women in sports, not mediocre trans women.

No one wants to see mediocre men running. It's pointless. It doesn't matter how they identify, spectator enjoyment, and therefore investment, will evaporate.

People know full well what constitutes fairness and competition.

Even if it was proven, beyond doubt, that you could make a man exactly the same physiologically as a woman, people still wouldn't want it.

They want to watch women and they want to watch men. At their peak.

Not women and artificially weakened men. It's just boring and distasteful.

When you know you are watching athletes who have perhaps been doped, it's the same thing. You can't get on board.

People know what constitutes fair competition. And it's not just an abstract thing that governing bodies have decided you must have. It's a primaeval, visceral inner knowledge.

Competition doesn't work without fairness.
