Just saw this tweet form amnesty:

During #LGBTHistoryMonth we are highlighting notable LGBT+ figures from history. Hatshepsut (1507 BC - 1458 BC) fifth Pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt, one of the most successful pharaohs in history. born a woman, used female pronouns but presented herself as a King #LGBTHM19 t.co/H4GWvcj7lg

I have to confess my historical knowledge is massively lacking, but I hadn't heard that before?

Sherlock Holmes. Dorothy Sayers claimed him in the 1920s on the grounds of Holmes possessing nothing more than normal mother wit.

Winston Churchill. Obviously. Widely known as Winnie.

MillytantForceit · 22/02/2019 15:37

John Wayne was Marion Morrison

Big Daddy (wrestler) was Shirley Crabtree

MrsWinkly · 22/02/2019 15:36

Lysisstrata Grin I like it. We should have Abe Lincoln too.

It's more likely that she was clearly a gender critical feminist.
Quite.

LangCleg · 22/02/2019 15:36

Next up Queen Elizabeth I?

I have the body of a weak, feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a King of England too.

Kettleon80 · 22/02/2019 15:34

Oh give me a fucking break. Surely some sane Historian can come along and explain to these dickheads WHY she had to present as King

Honestly this has to be a joke GrinGrin

EweSurname · 22/02/2019 15:32

God from bible: creator of life, embodies love, forgiveness, self-sacrifice - clearly a woman

Any doctor ever: associated with that “feminine” quality of healing - clearly women/transmen

Any architect: concerned with creating homes —> women are homemakers - therefore they must all be women/transmen

Any chef ever: cooking is to do with sustenance and nourishment - therefore they’re all women/transmen

Etc etc etc

If Hatshepsut is going to be claimed for men, then I think Franklin D Roosevelt should be recognised for the successful woman that she was, first woman president of the US. As evidence, I present a photo of her aged 2.5 - I have read many times that children know their gender by this age, so hereafter I expect MNHQ to delete anyone who refers to her as a man.

Well the tie on beard was a bit like a crown back in the day. Didn’t mean she was a he. I believe there was a tie on willy too but both sexes used these as part if their costume.

Out of the same presentist box as "Cleopatra Was Black..." and suggestions that Mary Secole was the equal of Florence Nightingale in the foundation of professional nursing.

honeylane · 22/02/2019 15:17

So basically the gender critical women who have achieved something amazing must have been trans women

All the other gender critical women are Terfs

Is it possible to peak trans more than once??????

BiologyNotBigotry · 22/02/2019 15:17

I can't immediately find Joann Fletcher on Twitter but there is an account for her programme @ImmortalEgypt that's been active recently. No idea who's in charge of it but might be worth sharing the tweet with them & asking their opinion, if anyone has time/access to Twitter!

VickyEadie · 22/02/2019 15:15

Just to answer the question in the thread title: was she fuck.

Bebstar123 · 22/02/2019 15:14

While not exactly mainstream history (they believe that civilization is a LOT older than accepted) these guys have some very interesting takes on ancient Khem. The sadly departed Abd’El Hakim Awyan was said to be the oral historian of an original Egyptian culture, his daughter has maintained the tradition. Their take (I'm summarizing here) Ancient Khem, before the dynastic era, was a matriarchy, Pharaoh refers to women exlusively.

nocoolnamesleft · 22/02/2019 15:07

For fuck's sake. She was a woman who wanted power for herself in a patriarchal world. It's more likely that she was clearly a gender critical feminist.

I absolutely love Joann Fletcher & I'm seriously hoping she catches wind of this. I'd pay to witness the takedown! Grin

Transgender ideology's slavish belief in gender stereotypes supports a belief that only male people could rule Ancient Egypt, and that any female ruler must have been a transgender person.

Some sources say that pharaoh means king; some other sources say that pharaoh means ruler or monarch. Transgender ideology can use the king meaning of pharaoh to trans a female pharaoh because transgender supporters claim she a king (not a ruler/monarch) and gender stereotypes dictate that a king must be a man. Using the ruler/monarch meaning of pharaoh, however, does not require transing of a female pharaoh.

andyoldlabour · 22/02/2019 15:04

I thought that Hatshepsut married her half brother Thutmose 2nd aged 12, and they had a daughter Neferure.
She ordered that she be portrayed in images and statues with big muscles and a beard, but apparently wore female regalia.

Wherearemyminions · 22/02/2019 15:03

I would love to see Joann Fletcher take apart this load of shite! Can envisage it now, would be incredible :)

BertrandRussell · 22/02/2019 15:01

“So the logic is that any woman who acquired a traditionally male title, in an era when this was usually forbidden for women, must be a Transman?”
There was a Twitter move yesterday to suggest that Martina was trans....

gaychristiangeek.blogspot.com/2012/07/bear-bow-and-boy-queering-pixars-brave.html Has everyone already seen this on Merida btw?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 22/02/2019 14:55

cinemacities.wordpress.com/2017/04/03/doris-day-in-calamity-jane-1953/ I strongly doubt we will be permitted Doris Day tbh

MrsWinkly · 22/02/2019 14:53

It was only a matter of time before they came for her!
silentcrow Yes, we need Mary Beard and the amazing Joann Fletcher, expert Egyptologist who was clear on her BBC programmes that Hatshepsut was a woman with ovaries of steel!.

FermatsTheorem · 22/02/2019 14:52

I find it offensive that the achievements of notable women are being erased and re-categorised as transgender.

I can't help but feel the long term aim is to leave 3.5 billion women with no role models save for Doris Day, circa 1955.

(I have even seen it argued that all GC feminists who point to their childhood tomboy phase in arguing against automatic transing of gender non-conforming children, or who mention that being a woman can't be down to stereotypes because they wear jeans, steel-capped work boots and work in stereotypically masculine jobs - all of us are apparently saying this because we are trans but in denial due to internalised transphobia. Hmm As my mother would have said, "Aye, that'll be right...")

Bowlofbabelfish · 22/02/2019 14:47

Was she the one with ‘She Whose Every Wish Is Carried Out’ written on her throne? That’s always made me smile.
