Can we get into this new party super-quick and encourage them to centre women’s issues?

I’m so desperate to find a political home, and this new breakaway from Labour seems perfect BUT I need to know they will be on ‘our side’. They were all talking about listening to people’s opinions just now. Do you think if we bring up all the issues that we are dealing with they will pay attention?

So that's two of them who support women at least. We won't get a Party that is prepared to listen to the GC view unless we are prepared to talk to them.

Well she was willing to walk when Momentum was trying to get her kicked out only about 10 days ago. A heavily pregnant women and they tried to get her sacked. This is one of many reasons why I cannot vote for Labour anymore. They are misogynistic bullies.

Maybe Luciana will surprise you and stand up for a biological definition of women, seeing as it’s dictating much of her existence at present.

Deliriumoftheendless · 18/02/2019 19:48

I have no hope these will be any use.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 18/02/2019 19:37

Berger is a heavily-pregnant woman facing extreme misogynist abuse. She's also clearly very brave and has had enough of putting up with shit. I would think she's someone who would clearly get on a personal level why women's rights matter.

I feel very sorry for her too and agree she has been brave. I don't fault her at all. However, there is no way in hell that she will in any way criticise the woke pro-trans movement. I am willing to bet serious cash on that one. Virtually no other MPs have, so why on earth would a young female MP do it, who is going to get totally blasted. Plus I have never had a sense that she is in any way even interested in the debate.

Though I do get why she might not want to take any more abuse from any other groups than Corbynites and the far right.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 18/02/2019 19:16

They won't be pro-women. Chuka and Luciana will probably try to appeal to the younger voters and will turn on the woke-tap.

deepwatersolo · 18/02/2019 19:08

Well, OP, as long as you are not Black or have some funny tinge (to say it with Angela‘s words)....

Freespeecher · 18/02/2019 18:59

I believe the Communists separate the sexes in the gulags. So there's that.

RedRosa90 · 18/02/2019 16:55

*speak without

RedRosa90 · 18/02/2019 16:54

I agree that a true leftist analysis of the oppression of the female sex class will not come from these people. I wouldn't want to be involved with them. However it can't hurt if women who are more sympathetic with them approach them for support. More support the better? Maybe. I am thinking of joining the communist party because they recently put forward their class based gender critical view. Need to look into this more though. Am a paid up labour member because I believe that a Corbyn government would benefit women in real terms e.g. better welfare and social care is always going to improve the lives of women. So am not sure if I'm allowed to be a member of two parties. Probably not. I wish prominent socialists in the labour party would improve their analysis. They don't have to be gender critical, but protecting the right of people in the female sex class to be politically engaged and have spaces to organise and to simply be able to speak harassment and job loss seems not a lot to ask from a socialist.

MillytantForceit · 18/02/2019 15:28

No indication yet they wish to form a party in the 19th/20th century sense. They remain a party in parliament in the 18th century sense.

The question now is what happens to the Tory Remainers who sit in the top right-hand corner of the Commons: Soubry, Woolastone, Allen and Grieve etc.

OlennasWimple · 18/02/2019 15:16

irnbru - they aren't a new political party. They are a group of former Labour MPs who are badging themselves The Independence Group - ie "The Group of MPs who are Independent of Any Political Parties" (which isn't nearly as snappy)

irnbruforlife · 18/02/2019 14:57

The independent party huh. Assume they won't be running in Scotland or will they have to change their name. The anti independence independent party? 🤣🤣🤣Yh it's a no from me. I guess Any Scottish labour mps joining them will operate the same way they do now, as a branch office of the English party regardless of what it's called.

OlennasWimple · 18/02/2019 14:24

They're not (yet) a new political party, they are seven new independent MPs whose views align on a number of issues

nellodee · 18/02/2019 14:06

I have an interesting story, bruh.

Yesterday, I was visited by two retired women from the labour party who were asking if I would help them with campaigning in the local elections. I told them I had left and why I had left in some detail (including rants on sexism in the labour party, failure to defend women's rights, disgust over Brexit, etc etc). The conversation ended with them telling me that they desperately needed more feminists in the labour party and that if I came back, I would have their full support in running as a councillor.

Incidentally, I have never been to a local meeting in my life!

birdsdestiny · 18/02/2019 14:01

I would say the opposite.

Procrastinator1 · 18/02/2019 13:53

Gavin Shuker is on the Women and Equalities Panel so perhaps we can assume he is no friend to gender critical women?

userschmoozer · 18/02/2019 13:40

Chris Leslie has been very dismissive towards female constituents who have asked for his support. His ward has a high percentage of BAME women including Muslim and Romany women, and he doesn't really understand the issues or how self ID will affect them.
He thinks women who want their rights protected need re-educating.

LizzieSiddal · 18/02/2019 13:00

I have never been able to understand why MP's resigning from their party are able to stand as independents, because they effectively give up their chance to influence anything which happens in parliament.

The Govt hardly have a majority, this lot could decide to vote with them and so yield an awful lot of power.

stillathing · 18/02/2019 12:44

Supporting women through an understanding of class analysis is something I expected from the actual lefty left. Now I'm of the opinion that misogyny runs too deep for most people to be able to see it, especially those with power.

andyoldlabour · 18/02/2019 12:37

I think anyone doing this should be forced to stand down, and then put up their own money to stand in a by-election.

teawamutu

Im not particularly hopeful but i would be very interested in hearing about any replies you get

LangCleg · 18/02/2019 12:31

The only Labour faction remotely friendly to GC views is the Blue Labour tendency - there aren't many of them and lots of women would dislike other views of theirs.
