Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I wonder why Posie is sharing this story about allegedly homophobic Christians?

She's posted it without comment, but I can only assume it's because she approves of the removal of the app. After all the story has no mention of transgenderism, the concern is that the app implied that being gay is a 'sickness' and a 'sin'. The original petition against the app (there's a link in the story) also only talks about gay people, absolutely nothing about transgenderism.

'little Billy and little Olivia are going to get married when they grow up'

No, I've heard children say they are going to marry each other / their mum / their dog, but this isn't the same thing is it.

I've never, not once seen parents instigate it.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:29

No, i've never seen anyone joke about arranged marriage.

That is not arranged marriage ffs. Not in the sense that I understand it anyway. I am talking about Mum 1 saying to Mum 2 'awww bless, this is little Freddie's girlfriend from nursery' or 'little Johnny's going to be a heartbreaker when he grows up- all the girls at nursery love him' or 'little Billy and little Olivia are going to get married when they grow up'.

No? Maybe just me. It raises my hackles every time I hear it.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 10:28

heterosexual relationships are foisted on children before they can talk and nobody raises an eyebrow?

I've not seen anyone force heterosexual relationships on children too young to talk.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:26

CaptainKirks

I am not sure if our wires are crossed. My point is that the parents protesting about kids being taught about gay relationships (and those who support them) are hypocrites. Why do you have to be older to learn about gay relationships when heterosexual relationships are foisted on children before they can talk and nobody raises an eyebrow?

I am surprised that people have not noticed this hypocrisy, but maybe the people I associate with or see on social media are just weird and that in the real world, kids are not taught or told about adult relationships of any kind until they are at secondary school.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 10:25

Have people seriously never come across people joking about their baby/toddler kids' girlfriends/boyfriends or their future husbands/wives?

No, i've never seen anyone joke about arranged marriage.

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 10:25

how many people do you know who have joked about arranged marriage?

None. I suggest you try keeping better company Funkyfunkybeat12

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 10:23

Never? Maybe I do mix with strange people. Have people seriously never come across people joking about their baby/toddler kids' girlfriends/boyfriends or their future husbands/wives?

Nope- I've never come across anyone behaving like this.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 10:23

Errr. How do you mean?

This is what you were saying previously.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:22

How many people do you know who have joked about arranged marriage?

Errr. How do you mean? I am not part of a culture that practices arranged marriage. I cannot be certain that jokes of that kind don't take place though.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:20

No, And a lot of people on here are actually in same sex relationships.

Right, same here. My point is the hypocrisy of getting outraged over gay relationships being 'rammed down children's throats' at school, when heterosexual relationships are rammed down even earlier. I think kids should be taught about a range of relationships and families.

I am just surprised that others have not noticed sexualisation of kids and innocuous joking about marriage and relationships re kids who can't even talk yet.

Makes me think of Hannah Gadsby's show when she was talking about how her mum told her of how bad she felt that she had raised Hannah as if she was straight, even though she knew deep down she wasn't. The message that there is only one acceptable form of relationship can have serious repercussions throughout life as people struggle with internalised homophobia.

You must mix with some really strange people Funkyfunkybeat12. I've never come across anyone talking or behaving like this.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 10:05

and clueless about children in general

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 10:05

As though one of MN’s top froth points going back for at least a decade isn’t about people overegging baby/toddler/childhood friendships into something romantic.

Are you implying they are clueless about the site?Shock

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 10:03

It's totally socially acceptable to talk about how your 6-month old son has a 'girlfriend' and how yours and your friend's baby are going to get married when they're older and to buy 'bridal Barbie' for your 4 year old

You must mix with some really strange people Funkyfunkybeat12. I've never come across anyone talking or behaving like this.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 17/02/2019 10:03

Well I don't wonder why someone with a highly 'woke' and goady user name is yet again trying vainly to stir up some kind of anti Posie sentiment here for their own personal agenda, because it's as obvious as it's tedious.

What is there to discuss?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 09:58

I'm not sure the kind of people you know, but sexualising anything to do with children is wrong.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 09:57

I don't think anyone would think saying a 6 month old has a girlfriend is acceptable.

SharkBastard · 17/02/2019 09:53

Sadly PP blocked me on FB so I can't ask for you, so you ought to do it yourself if you want these things answered, I'm sure she'll oblige

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/02/2019 09:47

Obvious troll is obvious.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 09:46

Probably because she agrees with it? Why the fuck would you post stuff you didn't know what it contains when it takes 2 minutes to sim-read. Same as she said she supports the parents who are complaining that their kids are being taught about gay relationships at school. She said that she 'understands it's more about queer theory' but the parents were holding signs that explicitly mentioned homosexuality. Dunno how more blatant you want to get really, but hey...

It's interesting how some people say 'I am not homophobic but I just think it's too young for them to hear about being gay in primary school'. Ah, but it's totally socially acceptable to talk about how your 6-month old son has a 'girlfriend' and how yours and your friend's baby are going to get married when they're older and to buy 'bridal Barbie' for your 4 year old. Constantly ramming heterosexuality down children's throats literally since birth is no problem at all. But god help you if you teach kids to embrace a broad range of different relationships and family forms.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 09:43

I wonder if they're shunned, like executioners were in the olden days.

PURsecuted
