I wonder why Posie is sharing this story about allegedly homophobic Christians?

She's posted it without comment, but I can only assume it's because she approves of the removal of the app. After all the story has no mention of transgenderism, the concern is that the app implied that being gay is a 'sickness' and a 'sin'. The original petition against the app (there's a link in the story) also only talks about gay people, absolutely nothing about transgenderism.

funky

Just because non of my friendship groups say stuff like that and ive never seen that baby grow does not mean that i dont believe it happens

Youve said it happens in your friendship groups and i can understand why you would be annoyed by that

Ive always tried to say boyfriend or girlfriend to all of mine from quite early on when they started takking about this stuff

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 11:03

I suspect that I don't mix in strange circles at all and that, for whatever reason, you are closing your eyes

I will repeat
sexualising anything to do with children is wrong.

It's also bright pink funk do you think we here on the Feminism board are they type of people this kind of thing is aimed at?
Or do you think it's passed us by because we don't mix in the same circles?

FlyingOink · 17/02/2019 11:01

if we all say we hate posie and she is wronger than a wrong thing in wrongsville would you go away?

I dont have much of an opinion but im happy to say i do if it helps at all

Marguerita I suspect that I don't mix in strange circles at all and that, for whatever reason, you are closing your eyes to the very different ways that heterosexuality and same-sex attraction are still treated in our society. The former is normal, harmless and innocuous whereas the latter is deviant and not suitable for children unless they are over a certain age.

Here's a picture of a freaking babygro. But no, never ever happens.

The nuanced position which is informed by the needs of the children (especially girls) will be between the ideologies espoused.

It will also require engagement with all parties.

RoseAndRose · 17/02/2019 10:58

It's a shame this thread was scribbled on.

There's an important point about the post.

How far does one (protected) group get to circumscribe another (protected) group?

Because the (larger, less oppressed?) group has had to withdraw (some) services previously offered because it was exclusionary of another (smaller, more oppressed) group.

The principle at won out there is now being applied to other groups. And those in the (larger) group like it as little as the religious organsations did.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:53

Thanks, R0wantrees, I will have a look at those. It may well be nuanced, but I can't help but notice that the signs and leaflets talk primarily about 'homosexuality' and that concerns me. Maybe I am being oversensitive about it, but all I see is rank hypocrisy there.

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 10:51

As I said before you seem to mix in very strange circles socially and at work. I can't help you with that but I have never come across anyone talking like this I am talking about Mum 1 saying to Mum 2 'awww bless, this is little Freddie's girlfriend from nursery' or 'little Johnny's going to be a heartbreaker when he grows up- all the girls at nursery love him' or 'little Billy and little Olivia are going to get married when they grow up'

R0wantrees · 17/02/2019 10:49

It is worth looking at both the books by Andrew Moffat & links & lesson plans promoted.
Despite being framed around the Equality Act where sex is one of the protected characteristics, he seems to conflate and prioritise gender/ gender identity so little focus on challenging sexism.
There is a need for nuance rather than the football match approach of chosing one of two sides. Whilst much about the program is good, it needs careful informed scrutiny. Similarly, the concerns of the parents protesting need careful consideration.
Children and especially girls are caught between ideologies.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:46

That comment makes no sense- you are combining 2 completely separate things together.

No I am not.
My point- these parents are hypocrites because heterosexuality and heterosexual relationships are taught as normal and as future expectations for kids before they can even talk. But when someone wants to teach about other relationships, it might harm children unless they are old enough to understand.
Response on here: no, heterosexuality is never promoted as a future expectation for young kids. We have never heard anyone talk like that.

So i was saying, maybe I am imagining the expectations about heterosexuality then.

I support Posie’s right to free speech. Doesn’t mean I agree with everything she says. This isn’t hard.

But she is THE leader!

PrestonsFlowers · 17/02/2019 10:43

Foist is a very strange word.

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 10:42

okay, maybe I am just imagining it all then and these parents are entirely reasonable to protest about their kids being taught about diverse forms of relationships

That comment makes no sense- you are combining 2 completely separate things together.

  1. what would you like to happen with these threads...i just dont feel you want a debate

  2. if we all say we hate posie and she is wronger than a wrong thing in wrongsville would you go away?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 10:39

hese parents are entirely reasonable to protest about their kids being taught about diverse forms of relationships.

You have every right to disagree and to be disgusted at the protest.

But yes, they have every right to protest.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:39

Again I think you need to look at the company you keep Funkyfunkybeat12. I've never heard anyone talking like this.

You're lucky. Hard to get away from it when it's friends of friends or work colleagues though.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:38

Sad okay, maybe I am just imagining it all then and these parents are entirely reasonable to protest about their kids being taught about diverse forms of relationships.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 10:36

You would have to be totally isolated from any other children for them not to see that all families are different.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 17/02/2019 10:34

bernard

When my children were little we used to put betty crocker chocolate fudge icing on digestives and then put chocolate chios on top

They loved it...ok we now have to roll them to school but they loved it

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 10:34

I am talking about how, from birth, they are taught that the norm is heterosexuality, especially married heterosexuality.

I don't think this is true is it. Children see all kinds of different families, unmarried, married, single parents, same sex parents, grandparents raising their friends...
Step parents...

It's all so normal these days.

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 10:34

when heterosexual relationships are foisted on children before they can talk and nobody raises an eyebrow?

What a load of rubbish. The great majority of children are still born to heterosexual parents in a heterosexual couple. Heterosexuality is not "foisted on them" because their parents are heterosexual any more than homosexuality is foisted on the small number of children who have homosexual parents.

To extrapolate from that that parents are talking about 6 month old babies having boyfriends is a utter nonsense.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:33

I've never, not once seen parents instigate it.

You're lucky. Sadly it does happen Sad . Including from parents with more than enough intelligence to know a lot better.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 10:32

I've not seen anyone force heterosexual relationships on children too young to talk.

I am wondering whether you are wilfully trying to misunderstand me and I am not sure why. I am not talking about these kids having relationships. I am talking about how, from birth, they are taught that the norm is heterosexuality, especially married heterosexuality. But if anyone wants to talk about other forms of relationships, then that is harmful unless the kids are old enough to understand.
