I wonder why Posie is sharing this story about allegedly homophobic Christians?

She's posted it without comment, but I can only assume it's because she approves of the removal of the app. After all the story has no mention of transgenderism, the concern is that the app implied that being gay is a 'sickness' and a 'sin'. The original petition against the app (there's a link in the story) also only talks about gay people, absolutely nothing about transgenderism.

Funkyfunkybeat12 Earlier, you said:

"Why do you have to be older to learn about gay relationships when heterosexual relationships are foisted on children before they can talk and nobody raises an eyebrow? "

If a child is living in a family with parents of both sexes s/he is not having a heterosexual relationship "foisted" on her / him, s/he is experiencing it directly every moment of their lives, as most children do.

It will always make me think 'You're my wife now, Dave', thanks to Antifa and Ministry.
I used to love you, Dave. I mean Ministry.

"I find it hard to take posts by someone using the name "antifa" seriously."

It is a very complex situation which requires a calm, nuanced adult response.

Yes, it is.

What we need is a graphic in Venn diagram form. If I was any good at this shit (I am not), I would make one!

Like R0, I've looked at quite a few of the No Outsiders lesson plans available online. Lots of good stuff in there. Genuinely. Anti-bullying, supportive environments, building friendships, accepting people for who they are. All good stuff based on protected characteristics (except for sex, where it is weak).

However, there's also conflation of sex and gender, and gender reassigment and gender identity, in material that purports to educate children about EqA. I can't support this. Nor would I be happy for my child to attend lessons that taught gender identity theory as established fact and not the faith-based belief system it actually is.

I'm in the Venn diagram somewhere. But it's not in the segments that support either homophobia or Islamophobia.

R0wantrees · 17/02/2019 11:48

I also suspect that the vast majority of parents who are protesting these lessons on the grounds of homophobia would protest about the transgender element as well if they even knew it existed. Then you’ll get the people who will have a go at the homophobic parents, while also having a go at the gays and lesbians via the vehicle of trans ideology.

There will also be some people whose Islamophobia will be a key driver for their response.

Whatisthisfuckery · 17/02/2019 11:32

I have heard this actually, ‘little Tommy is going on a play date with little Tilly. She’s his girlfriend from nursery.’ It’s been from the sort of parents who probably wouldn’t know what their kids learn at school though, let alone object or protest. I actually hate the term play date if I’m honest.

I was also one of these kids who was bought up having heterosexual relationships shoved down my throat. Not because my parents and everyone we knew were heterosexual, more that I was always told I’d grow up and marry a nice man. It is very damaging, or at least it was for me, but I grew up in the 80s and early 90s, so times might have changed. I rather suspect not in most cases but I think it will have for some families.

I don’t know what Posie thinks but I very much doubt she’d fall into either of these catagories.

Well OP, I think your posting here is making a difference. I'm now even more convinced that "antifa" is a grouping for authoritarians, thought police, grievance mongers, bullies, and thugs

However this plays out, let's hope that the antifa fanatics are kept on the fringes. Letting them get any control of anything would lead to discrimination and individuals being targeted for harm

Spot on.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 17/02/2019 11:25

Nobody really stepped in to say anything to the people who insisted that they had never heard of any of the things I was talking about

I hadnt read that far

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 11:16

Nobody really stepped in to say anything to the people who insisted that they had never heard of any of the things I was talking about.

Did you expect people to step in for you?

It's better to argue becuase you think something is right rather than start because you want people to step in.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 11:15

CaptainKirksSpookyghost just stop now, okay. I haven't got the energy for this today. I have too much other shit going on.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 11:14

that is as clear as day saying that it's not a legitimate social concern and something that is confined to my weird social circle.

It was in answer to your question.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 11:13

Rufus it was exasperation that motivated it. Nobody really stepped in to say anything to the people who insisted that they had never heard of any of the things I was talking about. Whether your personal friends have said it is surely utterly irrelevant to any debate like this. By telling me that I must keep weird company, that is as clear as day saying that it's not a legitimate social concern and something that is confined to my weird social circle.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 11:11

you haven't heard or seen it happen, great for you. The point is that it does happen and it will be happening at the school where these parents are protesting. Yet they choose only to see a problem when it comes to same-sex relationships.

Maybe they haven't seen it?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 17/02/2019 11:11

I dunno

I was too busy laughing

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 11:10

I do remember being told by a friend that i had set feminism back 100 years because i dont put petrol in the car

How was this measurement of 100 years calculated?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 17/02/2019 11:09

Dont you for fucks sake me!

Im agreeing with you!

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 11:09

The response I got from Marguerite and Captain was that I mixed in weird circles, which sort of implies that it's not a thing, right?

No it means in answer to your question of "have you never seen this" we haven't seen it and you mix in different circles.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 17/02/2019 11:09

Thats why i said to some captain

Its been my experience that the vast majority of feminists dont give a shiny shit Grin

I do remember being told by a friend that i had set feminism back 100 years because i dont put petrol in the car

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 11:07

Just because non of my friendship groups say stuff like that and ive never seen that baby grow does not mean that i dont believe it happens

For fucks sake. Excuse the swearing and rudeness but I mean obviously I am talking about the fact that it happens rather than whether some random person on an internet forum has friends who say it. The response I got from Marguerite and Captain was that I mixed in weird circles, which sort of implies that it's not a thing, right?

I am talking about the fact that it happens, it is normalised and it is pervasive. If you haven't heard or seen it happen, great for you. The point is that it does happen and it will be happening at the school where these parents are protesting. Yet they choose only to see a problem when it comes to same-sex relationships.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 11:07

I appreciate buying dresses makes me a bad feminist

Does it?

I've only dripped my toe in over the last year.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 17/02/2019 11:06

Thanks for those links R0. I agree that's there doesn't seem to be a great deal in those lesson plans about sexism.

Children and especially girls are caught between ideologies.

True.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 17/02/2019 11:05

captain

Thise baby grows certainly weren't around when my children were that age

Though i do remember being horrified by some dresses when looking for a party dress for then 2 year old dd

And yes I appreciate buying dresses makes me a bad feminist to some but she looked so gosh darned adorable

FlyingOink · 17/02/2019 11:05

How far does one (protected) group get to circumscribe another (protected) group?

Does this mean how far do homosexuals get to circumscribe Muslims and how far do Muslims get to circumscribe homosexuals?
Because my answer is not at all on either side. And there are people who are both!
