Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I wonder why Posie is sharing this story about allegedly homophobic Christians?

She's posted it without comment, but I can only assume it's because she approves of the removal of the app. After all the story has no mention of transgenderism, the concern is that the app implied that being gay is a 'sickness' and a 'sin'. The original petition against the app (there's a link in the story) also only talks about gay people, absolutely nothing about transgenderism.

^It will always make me think 'You're my wife now, Dave', thanks to Antifa and Ministry.
I used to love you, Dave. I mean Ministry.^

Honestly, that Ministry video, it’s one of those things where I can’t tell if it’s satire.

My son was aware from as long as he was able to take cognisance of his parents' friends that we had male friends who had male partners and female friends who had female partners.

I am pleased for your son. I am obviously older than him, but my parents had no gay friends. I didn't know any gay people at all. I was told that being gay was disgusting throughout my childhood. When I was 15, I thought I might be gay and remember thinking 'oh shit, my life is going to be so difficult'. I always get asked if I have a boyfriend or a husband. For me, being taught about same-sex relationships at school would have made a big difference. I still struggle with confidence now and feeling that I have let people down. Although you might have a diverse circle of friends, so many people don't and their kids are not exposed to that from a young age.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 18:02

I said nothing about being brought up by heterosexual parents amounted to heterosexuality being foisted on kids.

You said kids have hetrosexuality foisted on them before they can even talk, like people joking around their 6 month olds getting married.

Surely you can see how we thought you said it, when you've said it.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 17:59

Marguerita that isn't true at all. I said that the parents protesting were hypocrites and explained why I thought that. I said nothing about being brought up by heterosexual parents amounted to heterosexuality being foisted on kids. My issue is not about kids being brought up by het parents (obviously), but the fact that learning about same-sex relationships is seen to be potentially harmful and unsuitable for children at primary school. The leaflets handed out complain about homosexuality being treated as normal. It is normal.

Sorry I know this thread has moved on a bit but I feel a bit sorry for funkyfunkybeat12 !

Funkyfunkybeat12 was expressing dismissive incredulity at any one who had not experienced what she claims to be widespread. She was basically accusing those of us who had not encountered this of lying.

Her use of language like heterosexuality being foisted on children hardly shows an open mind. Most children will still be born into a family where the parents are heterosexual. That isn't "foisting" anything on anyone. My son was aware from as long as he was able to take cognisance of his parents' friends that we had male friends who had male partners and female friends who had female partners.

I wonder why crows round my way always seem to have a domestic at 4.30am.

No idea, but they turn up on my roof for a tap dancing session at about dawn.

Nah, mate. Zumba.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 17:11

Ah, that explains why they aren't about anymore.

Every time you post about Posie you draw attention to her awesome antics to show just how insane things have got.

Are you sure you aren't Posie herself?

Keep up the good work whoever you are.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 17:05

Didn't Forte's become holiday Inns?

Qcng · 17/02/2019 17:04

I can only assume antifa has been shown the door? Or why the dump and run...?

Sorry I know this thread has moved on a bit but I feel a bit sorry for funkyfunkybeat12 !

I totally get what you mean, no idea why you've been targeted.
Just the other day in AIBU there was a mum who's 7 year old was bought Valentines day flowers "by" a 9 year old boy (the mum of) because the mum viewed the children's relationship that way. OP was rightly freaked.

It comes up all the time, parents viewing pre-pubescent children as "flirting with" or "being girlfriend boyfiends" just look in AIBU more!

I agree that homosexual relationships are seen as something to hold back from children, while Disney, CBeebies, etc have no problem portraying het relationships from a very early age. Not saying that's wrong as obviously het sex is where we all came from, but homo love is also perfectly normal and shouldn't be taboo.

antifa · 17/02/2019 17:02

Thanks for the heads up on Posie OP. Never heard of her before, just found her on Facebook and she's awesome, totally fierce! Thanks for pointing me her way 😊

Ah, antifa, you're back with the same garbage as yesterday. Really, you're going to have to step up your game a bit if your plan of instilling discord and tension is going to work. We've already explained that Posie is her own person, only speaks for herself, and that none of us wish to pick apart her every thought and move.

(Emily G. is this you? Couldn't find any Americans to harass?)

Now, how about we have a REAL conversation about feminism and women's rights? I'm curious as to how you'd define the word woman. Or, let's see...whether or not you believe in lady brains? Or care to discuss what is happening in women's athletics right now and the advantages a biologic male has in sport? Ooh, how about women's prisons and the abuse of incarcerated women by self-proclaimed transwomen? Cotton ceiling and erasure of lesbians, antifa? There's always the overly gender-ified toxic culture in which we live and the harm it has on children to mull over. And if you're still searching for a topic to explore, let's do talk about early medical and surgical transition of children with gender identity issues.

Yeah, my hunch is we'll have crickets here...

I wonder how the starling got into our attic and then got out again.
Do you know @antifa?
Could you come and fix it please? Thanks.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 14:52

I can't stand Disney.

nellodee · 17/02/2019 14:51

Sidetrack question: do we know if Elsa is a lesbian or not yet?

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 14:37

JackyHolyoake I just think it's important for all children to know from a young age that there is nothing wrong with being different to most others and that there certainly is nothing wrong with being gay. Obviously, everything needs to be age-appropriate, but I absolutely think that there should be visibility in schools of same-sex families as well as heterosexual ones. It can be very damaging to grow up thinking there is something wrong with you and never seeing any role-model that you can look up to.

Loads of the Disney stuff is about girls growing up to marry their prince. People say this stuff to kids all the time, either explicitly or implicitly. Some of those kids might grow up to be gay, but few people see a problem with an assumption that their kids will be heterosexual. Yet when it is suggested that schools be inclusive, then there are fears that it may harm kids to hear that same-sex relationships are normal. And those protest signs and leaflets say nothing about trans ideology- it's all about homosexuality. I am sure they have issues with that too, but their main issue seems to be a fear that their kids will catch the gay.
