Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I wonder why Posie is sharing this story about allegedly homophobic Christians?

She's posted it without comment, but I can only assume it's because she approves of the removal of the app. After all the story has no mention of transgenderism, the concern is that the app implied that being gay is a 'sickness' and a 'sin'. The original petition against the app (there's a link in the story) also only talks about gay people, absolutely nothing about transgenderism.

Youve literally just said that anyone who hasn't encountered that particular attitude is 'blind' and 'pretending it doesnt exist'

GlitterStick · 18/02/2019 14:10

Was a general comment from what I've seen on the thread, not aimed at you in particular Rufus, not sure why you're taking it so personally

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/02/2019 14:07

Oh and yes

I absolutely believe homophobia exists

FIL is homophobic which is making relationships fucking hard at the moment

he has always been a twat to be fair

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/02/2019 14:05

personally roll my eyes at people who do, I'm not blind enough to close my eyes to it though and pretend it doesn't exist

If you want to call me a fucking liar just woman the fuck up and say it

I PERSONALLY havent heard my friends doing this

I am fucking ecstatic to believe that some people say it...indeed that maybe my friends do say but are too fucking scared to say it in front if me

And as i already fucking said...when talking PERSONALLY to My children i used boyfriend and girlfriend interchangeably

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/02/2019 14:04

"aw, isn't it cute this is her boyfriend/his girlfriend" way, or talk about Johnny flirting with the girls etc.

I've never experienced this before a child could talk, it's weird to sexualize any child this way i stand by that.

I'm not blind enough to close my eyes to it though and pretend it doesn't exist.
Nobody has said it doesn't exist, it clearly does however same sex relationships are also not exactly hidden away, there's a long way to go but we are at a point where they are seen as normal and they are starting to be represented as such.

This is of course only in my experience as i can't talk for anyone else.

GlitterStick · 18/02/2019 14:03

For the umpteenth time I have never heard any parent talking or joking in this way

Really? Fair enough then. It absolutely is a thing though, it's everywhere.
Boyfriends and girlfriends at primary school, mum and dad saying "aw bless" and joking about it.
Before having a FB clearout I knew at least a few who do this -
"Aw, flowers from the boyf, aren't they cute!"

"They're 6 years old FFS!!!"

As Funky said, how come it's "normal" to joke about boyfriends and girlfriends in front of kids but not about relationships if they're gay ones?

GlitterStick · 18/02/2019 13:55

You said kids have hetrosexuality foisted on them before they can even talk, like people joking around their 6 month olds getting married. Surely you can see how we thought you said it, when you've said it.

Just reading through this thread and are people wilfully trying to misunderstand @funkyfunkybeat12 or something?
Confused
It's not "mixing in weird circles" etc to notice that people do in fact, joke about their primary school kids having a boyfriend or a girlfriend, as in "aw, isn't it cute this is her boyfriend/his girlfriend" way, or talk about Johnny flirting with the girls etc.
I personally roll my eyes at people who do, I'm not blind enough to close my eyes to it though and pretend it doesn't exist.

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 17/02/2019 19:25

I'm afraid I agree with Funky. It's probably understandable that heterosexuality is the default for nearly everything, and yes, in the few decades since homosexuality has been actually legalized, there have been heartening strides in visibility.

But among my kids generation, gay is still an insult, and people who think same sex relationships are appropriately ring-fenced because they aren't 'normal' still have considerable influence.

nellodee · 17/02/2019 18:43

I have to say, I hear the whole "He's going to break the girl's hearts/She's going to break the boys hearts" comments about very young children quite regularly where I come from. I live on a council estate oop north. Maybe its a class thing?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 18:21

I don't agree with you that homophobia has been stamped out

We've not said this have we.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 18:20

I give up, marguerita and captain. You can win on this. You have both made me feel like shit today and I can't be bothered to argue anymore. I am probably oversensitive about this (as I am gay) but I don't agree with you that homophobia has been stamped out. I feel daily that it hasn't and it makes me sad that people are still protesting about this and still treating straight and gay relationships differently.
Sad

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 18:20

I saw a "Marrying Mum and Dad" the other day which was two mums getting married.

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 18:18

And it might actually be beneficial for them to see that actually if they are a girl, they can grow up and marry a girl and that is fine and just as normal as marrying a boy

Oh bore off lecturing me. How dare you. I have said nothing which merits your finger-wagging- quite the opposite. You are the person who appears to mix in a problematic social circle.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 18:17

their kids are not exposed to that from a young age.

We are far far from the days when Eastenders were only allowed to show to gay characters with their shirts off if they were exercising in their living room.

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 18:16

I am obviously older than him

I have no idea how old you are. My son is 29. I don't know where you're getting this idea from that gay people are never seen in the media or never seen in a positive light.

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 18:12

There gay characters in Disney. There are gay characters in Dr. Who.

I have no experience of these jokes you keep referring to and detest all clothes with slogans or messages on them.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 18:11

As I am sure you know.

No, actually and truthfully the way you put this across wasn't very clear.

I don't have any children. Many of my friends do though.

Did you realise kids shows now days have gay characters?
From superhero shows right down to cartoons like Steven Universe.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 18:10

We clearly move in different circles. I have never encountered a parent behaving like this.

And you're doing it again. Well, some of the children at school may have encountered it, mightn't they? Even if you haven't. And it might actually be beneficial for them to see that actually if they are a girl, they can grow up and marry a girl and that is fine and just as normal as marrying a boy.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 18:08

Marguerita I was talking about the jokes, the WAG in training babygro, the TV programmes, the princess/bride culture for little girls. I was pointing out that this is tolerated while same-sex relationships are seen as harmful and needing of an age-limit.

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 18:08

Yes, I was talking about the jokes and the assumptions of heterosexuality, not the fact that they are being brought up by heterosexual parents. As I am sure you know

MargueritaPink · 17/02/2019 18:06

Why do you have to be older to learn about gay relationships when heterosexual relationships are foisted on children before they can talk and nobody raises an eyebrow?

This is your exact words. And you were extremely dismissive of anyone whose experiences didn't match yours. (I know you are not the poster antifa but like antifa you share the intolerance of the left) I've never come across any parents talking in the way you claim is standard.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 17/02/2019 18:06

How old are your children Funky?
