It really is pretty inconceivable that politicians would think that criminals wouldn't seek to game the system like this.

They know, they are the ones encouraging it.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/02/2019 07:51

Good.

Women get protected, transwomen get protected. Win win. Unless you’re a sex offender who wants in to a women’s jail, of course.

It’ll be interesting to see the reaction to this

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 10/02/2019 07:50

Thank you, Betsy, for posting the share token.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 10/02/2019 07:48

It's a step in the right direction.

Iused2BanOptimist · 10/02/2019 01:04

I think it's perfectly conceivable that many really didn't think based on the recent performance of many.

Politicians were told, explicitly, that criminals would game the system.

They didn't care.

This is 2019. Politicians with foresight and an ability to scrutinise are currently in short supply in the HoC.

I think it's perfectly conceivable that many really didn't think based on the recent performance of many.

This is a day late and a dollar short. Nothing will ever change the fact that women were assaulted as a result of the prison system's previous stupid policy. I really hope that Karen White's victims get their day in court.

And these wings need to be in the estate of the prisoner's biological sex. No exceptions.

2rebecca · 10/02/2019 00:40

And in the Scottish bit of The Times a Scottish ethics expert warns that people who transition irreversibly could be at greater risk of suicide in later life. This goes against what Mermaids say but fits with the experience of me and my medical colleagues. People get obsessed with the often unattainable goal of looking like the opposite sex rather than getting on with their lives and doing stuff, and your body often doesn't work as well.
Really glad this is being discussed. Can't do share thing and going to sleep but this article may stop some parents believing their kid will kill her self unless she mutilates and drugs her body.

Datun · 10/02/2019 00:35

Do you feel like mystic Meg Datun?

Haha.

I mean honestly. Say these magic words and get transferred to a female prison, mister rapist.

Oh okay. Cheers.

I'm borrowing these shares off someone else.

Bath Spa are now saying it's nothing to do with political correctness, it's because they weren't sure about the confidentiality.

Chinny reckon.

Thingybob · 10/02/2019 00:30

Excellent, thankyou for the share Datun

And the detransition story.

Fifty trans people tell therapist of regrets

A psychotherapist who was told by a university that it could be “politically incorrect” to study people who regret changing gender has been approached by 50 people who want to reverse their transition.

James Caspian, 59, who was refused permission to research detransitioning at Bath Spa University, says rising numbers presenting with gender dysphoria have been too readily labelled as trans.

Sorry not got a share token for it.

Gires did not seem happy that someone wanted to do research. So they just quoted old research. Cos research is only good if it says what you like.

I very much expect that will be the case Lysistrata. That was in the original evidence given to the WEC by the prison officers association wasn't it? That many male prisoners would identify as trans for reasons that have nothing to do with dysphoria. I think that applies to quite a lot of men outside of prison too

Datun · 10/02/2019 00:26

The change has become more urgent after officials forecast that numbers of trans or non-binary prisoners in England and Wales could rise to 1,000, up from 139 last year. There are about 4,000 biological women in prison.

This is almost word for word exactly what the women on here were saying two years ago.

Honestly. Two short planks.

Redshoeblueshoe · 10/02/2019 00:24

Her male genitalia
Ha ha ha ha ha

FactsAreNotMean · 10/02/2019 00:20

a convicted sex offender who retains her male genitalia

Her male genitalia...in a way I appreciate that they've written it as explicitly as that as I suspect it will make a few people raise their eyebrows

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 10/02/2019 00:13

Call me cynical, but I can't help but think that if trans women don't get to go to a women's prison, there'll be a hell of a lot fewer sex offenders transitioning.

Datun · 09/02/2019 23:57

They are 'considering' this as an option. Call me cynical, but I ain't holding my breath - it'll have to go out for consultancy among stakeholders.

I agree Weezol. But now they're under scrutiny. Both from women and the press. Plus they are now going to have to do an equality impact assessment.

They're more accountable.

They can't afford, after this, another Karen White.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2019 23:51

Nope. Meant this one. Can't have two stories about women's voices on Sunday morning TV now can we? Philip Green is more of a tabloid fodder type story too where everyone can call for him to be stripped of his knighthood and give themselves a pat on the back for doing so.

(me cynical? Never)
