Some men wee on the floor and miss the pot. Problem!

FlyingOink · 08/02/2019 09:22

the vast majority of people sex-identify rather than gender-identify
That's it in a nutshell.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 08/02/2019 09:18

I think having individual unisex toilets is in general a good thing.

CowJumping · 08/02/2019 08:39

The problem is incomplete partition doors and shared sink areas.

The problem is urinals. We need to rip them all out.

Oh, and male violence towards feminine men.

HappyPunky · 08/02/2019 08:16

If it happens where I live I'll be using the men's because I'm dressed like them and it will feel safer because any men that want to harrass women will use the ladies.

Peacocks have decent changing rooms in the ones I've been in. I won't be joining any gyms and will just exercise at home.

MamaDane · 08/02/2019 08:06

Yeah, I agree that using the sink to rinse moon cups is pretty gross. Do that at home honestly. Women's toilets are nasty enough as it is with blood stains on the seats.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/02/2019 08:04

We had a ‘womens’ loo in one office I worked in (religious owners). It was quite nice - a basket of tampons, good mirror, perfumes...

Someone was sneaking into the loo in the evenings and pooing in the bin (like a tall kitchen bin with a flip lid. God knows how or why.

Odds are it was a male employee (90% male and the women tended to be part time or leave on time to pick up children).

Jaxtellerswife · 08/02/2019 07:41

*moon cups.

Jaxtellerswife · 08/02/2019 07:41

I'm a cleaner and I'm female. A little off topic but if I realised there were women rinsing their moo cups in the sinks I have to clean I would've complained sooner. That's disgusting.
Maybe this goes some way to explaining why the men's loos are always cleaner
Anyway, I'm most toilets I've been in (not cleaning) there will be a sign saying a male attendant is there. I just always assume a bloke could be in there and I've definitely used the men's before due to lack of queues.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 08/02/2019 07:32

I'm Belgium my most common experience is a separate loo but a shared sink. Works fine for me / them.
I don't like the individual "unisex" loos here. Water from the tiny sink gets all over the place and you just have to hope it's that, not piss, all over the loo.

Grim

origamiunicorn · 08/02/2019 07:20

I don't like them. If I'm going to a bar or a nightclub I do not want to be sharing toilets with men. I know it sounds weird but girls loos are our "safe space" on a night out, where we can put makeup on, sort ourselves out and God forbid pee in private. I went to a nightclub in Manchester recently and the wash basin area was shared and that was bad enough, you just want to get out of there as soon as possible.

Saying that, on the other hand I've seen men visibly dejected when they flounce to the front of the queue and then realise they have to queue like women have for the last century, that does make me giggle, welcome to our world Grin

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 08/02/2019 07:06

So the all-gender bathroom makes no-one happy?
And the nightclub ones cater to merpeople and centaurs? Grin
I guess it makes it easier for me to accompany DS (SN) as he gets older but sucks for everyone else.

BoomBoomsCousin · 08/02/2019 07:00

It's the desire for affirmation Pale. That and a strategic effort to erase the idea of sex separation for intimate spaces and replace it with the idea of gender separation as the default.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 08/02/2019 06:50

They already have unisex toilets, so what is different about an all gender toilet? Why cannot all genders use a unisex toilet? By definition it is for everyone. I genuinely don’t get it.

MamaDane · 08/02/2019 06:19

At my old schools, two different ones actually, they both had unisex only toilets. All of the stalls were complete with its own sink and dryer. Never saw an issue with it personally.
I'm not bothered about using the same toilets as men or trans.

Same doesn't go for changing rooms though.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 08/02/2019 06:16

Just have self-contained cubicles with sinks. As long as they open up into a public space, they are not unsafe. I work somewhere where we have that and it works fine.

explodingkitten · 08/02/2019 06:11

I actually don't use a mooncup but after reading in here that women rinse it in the commjnal sink of the toilet facilities I might be tempted

explodingkitten · 08/02/2019 06:10

So it's ok to rinse your mooncup in the unisex toilet and men can't complain? Or is that too inclusive?

CallMeWoman · 08/02/2019 06:09

And what about the tiny cameras that can be installed in perfect privacy? This is an epidemic in certain countries and I've no doubt it is growing here, if eBay's sales are any indication.

Lemoncakestrudel · 08/02/2019 06:06

I’m not catered for. I don’t ever want to be able to hear a man in the toilets while I have my knickers down, no matter how much of an effort has been made to remove gaps. Every time I go to the loos, I’m reminded of what was done to me and having men nearby will absolutely destroy me.

NotTerfNorCis · 07/02/2019 23:24

My local university now has unisex toilets in its main building. Long cubicles, each with its own sink. In fact they're almost like little bathrooms. I'm sure it's perfectly safe, but it feels weird to me.

MeganJPerry · 07/02/2019 23:12

According to the article, "While the university already has unisex bathrooms, some students felt this wasn’t inclusive enough."

So the uni has male/female already and now additional all-gender ones.

So everyone is catered for. Great idea and so simple.

Justhadathought · 07/02/2019 23:08

I think it's a wonderful idea. Now everyone is catered for, problem solved.

Everyone was catered for before. You used the toilet appropriate for your sex. what this is doing is making women feel deeply uncomfortable and in certain circumstances very compromised.

Why?

Who has gained, and what is it they have gained, precisely?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/02/2019 23:05

I’m not catered for

Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/02/2019 23:05

Women who want sex segregated toilets are not catered for.
