Just asking as I’m new to MN and appalled at the threads in here D:

OP posts:

Nuance, subtlety, and distinction may not be your strong points.
The world is not Black & white.

Solution: Read with open mind and engage in substantive debate, not sloganeering.

DorindaLestrange · 06/02/2019 09:27

Wow, what a great OP. So clever and not goady at all.

MillytantForceit · 06/02/2019 09:27

Hate no one.

Hate what some people do, sometimes.

Bubba1234 · 06/02/2019 09:27

I don’t
I don’t hate anyone for reasons like religion gender etc.

nauticant · 06/02/2019 09:26

No hate here.

Like the majority in FWR my concerns are the safeguarding of children, and women continuing to be entitled to have their single sex spaces.

One extra thing I'm concerned about is something that looks like an anti-science and authoritarian ideology being inserted into the laws of the UK.

DodoPatrol · 06/02/2019 09:26

Oh don't be such a fuckwit.

My friends' lovely daughters have been caught up in all this crap and three of them now think they are boys, want mastectomies and sterilization.

Anyone loving those kids would be concerned.

Anyone wanting them to choose to do that to themselves must really hate those girls.

Badstyley · 06/02/2019 09:25

Hate is a very strong word. I don’t even hate the people who have seriously wronged me, and there have been a few. Everyone is human after all and we all have our own issues. I know several trans people, some of whom I like and some of whom not so much. I have no opinion on the people I don’t know personally.

Lots of talk of hating people being bandied around, although not that I’ve seen from the GC women on this board. I wonder if there’s a bit of projection going on? I find it helps to realise that people have their own reasons for thinking the things they do, and most people are motivated by their own self interest, and most people don’t have the time or the motivation to make their own self interest hate. Empathy is a good and useful quality I find, it tends to save lots of time and energy where disagreement is concerned.

NoseringGirl · 06/02/2019 09:25

When I first started reading this board, I had a similar reaction to you OP. Then I looked a little deeper, and started to really listen to the intelligent and well informed women (and trans people actually) that post here. Give it a chance, you could learn a lot. It's definitely not about hate for trans people but protection of women's rights, dignity and safety.

blooddiamond · 06/02/2019 09:24

I am similarly saddened by much of what is posted about transgender people. I find the vast majority of it disgusting offensive, transphobic and homophobic too at times. As a lesbian I object to my identity being coopted by mostly straight women to make an argument so vehemently opposed to human empathy and understanding.

Back a couple of years, I was regularly visiting a site called Fundies (Fundamentalists) Say the Darndest Things.

It was back in the Bush era, when the American Evangelical Right seemed the largest stumbling block to progressive values. Left or Rightwing social libertarians were united in opposing them and FSTDT would collect various quotes from religious or ideological bigots so that we could unite over mocking them.

(Not just religious stuff, either - lots of misogyny was called out, I saw the rise of the incel movement and regular highlighting of Pick-Up-Artist sexism before it was a widely known thing... but anyway)

This was before gay marriage and oh, my god, Fundies hated gay people. Gay people were a constant threat. Christian mothers fretted over their sons being raped in toilets or their daughters catching lesbianism. Any sort of media appearance that validated gay people was an attack on good moral values - more importantly, it was an attack on people's right to be bigoted. There was huge talk about the Gay Agenda. Pagan neo-nazis and christian pastors would put aside their differences to trace the funding paths for civil rights organisations, claiming they proved a Big Gay (and maybe jewish!) Conspiracy. A repeated refrain was that it was an attack on Traditional Manhood and Traditional Womanhood (for the religious) or the promotion of Unnatural, Artificially Socially Engineered Post-Modern Cultural Marxist Lifestyles (for the non-religiously bigoted). FSTDT was filled with these messages, culled from forums all over the web. And it was great, these frothing polemics from the prejudiced, watching the fortresses of their privilege collapsing around them. I really enjoyed it.

I haven't been back for a while. After the Bush era the rise of identity politics fractured the site between those who believed in free speech (even if they chose to mock the output) and those who believed in political correctness. But I missed the (often well-written) frothings of irrational fear, the crumbling 'logical' edifices being used to prop up excuses for bigotry.

Then trans issues started turning up on Mumsnet, and I don't miss FSTDT any more.

Biscuit

So. Tedious.

WhatTheNightBrings · 06/02/2019 09:21

Protecting women's legal rights =/= transphobia

Fazackerley · 06/02/2019 09:19

I don't hate trans people. HTH

Calvinsmam · 06/02/2019 09:19

I doubt very much bear is coming back.

ScipioAfricanus · 06/02/2019 09:18

What OnTheHop said.

NotANotMan · 06/02/2019 09:18

I hate misogynists. Many trans rights activists are misogynists. I really hate them. Does that help?

Stardustinmyeyes · 06/02/2019 09:18

So you're new here but on another thread you're telling a poster to be careful on here because of all the hatred.
It's a bit stupid to ask a question when you've decided what the answer will be. They rarely match up
Good luck with the screenshots
Don't think you'll get many though.

OnTheHop · 06/02/2019 09:15

I don’t hate trans people.

Not supporting the proposed changes to the GRA does not = hating trans people.
Despising individuals who dox, report to police and employers and who make violent threats against those with different opinions does not = hating trans people.

I fully defend the rights of trans people in respect of equal rights to jobs (within the current sex discrimination act) healthcare, and to live free from sex or gender based abuse.

It’s not difficult.

ChattyLion · 06/02/2019 09:15

I don’t hate anyone or see hate. Concern for others and women drawing boundaries is all I see. That’s not hateful.

RepealTheGRA · 06/02/2019 09:15

I don’t hate trans people.

I do however have strong feelings towards individuals and ideologies that work towards undermining safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and women’s rights. HTH.

Melroses · 06/02/2019 09:14

Ah, mirroring.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/02/2019 09:13

You have the right to be appalled and no one can take that away from you.

Lamentations · 06/02/2019 09:13

I don't.

I just don't believe that refusing to name day as night makes me a bigot.

Horsewithnoma · 06/02/2019 09:13

Is this another OP that can't/won't debate?

Shame.

On the off chance may I politely ask Supermamabear this question:

Could you please define the word "woman" without using the word "woman"?

Thank you.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 06/02/2019 09:12

I have a friend who is m-f trans and she is fabulous, I have no issue with using “her” and “she.”

So no I don’t hate trans people and never have.

I equally have no issue with shared spaces BUT I have every empathy with those who do and can see their reasoning as well.
