Are these the kind of empowering messages our young girls need?

Please by all means promote ways in which gender stereotypes are smashed but I'm not sure lingerie is going to do this.

I'm rather confused by what PN are doing in this article. I'm semi convinced they're double bluffing.

I'd really like this thread to stay please as these messages and discussions are extremely important for young girls and boys. I'm shouting a tad lot more into my cuppa.

One google is opening up a wealth of amazing pictures:

Plus some extremely functional underwear.

It's such a lie isn't it - the more uncomfy/strappy/pleasing to the male gaze, the more "empowering" it is. Empowering in what way? Having the stamina to wear pinchy, synthetic pants all day with the likely outcome of thrush? A kind of endurance test?

I'm on to my third cup of tea and have broken out the cadburies.

Regarding education and curriculum; women's hour recently made the point that breastfeeding is rarely included in SRE.

The commentator who was a deliverer of SRE said there was never enough time to include it, as time was always limited.

so well designed, practical comfortable undies - empowering
scratchy nonsense made from man-made fibres and designed for the male gaze? - not empowering sorry Munroe, you're talking mince

this

Yes I always need cotton against my skin.

No.
It's itchy to women.

The invention of period pants is pretty empowering I suppose.

As was that neat little invention that meant girls in rural parts of Africa could quickly and easily wash reusable pads, helping them to attend school.

No Knickers?

On balance, probably disempowering.

my ease of movement is reduced if I'm not wearing a bra, and sports bras allow me to exercise without pain

Excellent point

I think oxy gets what I'm saying.

I love my hot milk breastfeeding bra as it's comfy, functional and holds them up, while and is nicely smooth under tee shirts. It's empowering me to bf but I don't wish to be a fantasy ta muchly.

Which range are you talking about?

Yuck, all women are ‘the fantasy’?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/02/2019 09:55

I believe that bras are empowering to women

my ease of movement is reduced if I'm not wearing a bra, and sports bras allow me to exercise without pain

however I don't think Munroe's bras would be of much help to me

so well designed, practical comfortable undies - empowering

scratchy nonsense made from man made fibres and designed for the male gaze? - not empowering

sorry Munroe, you're talking mince (again)

I wouldn't call lingerie empowering. And actually the chicken image someone mentioned on mumsnet about that particular advertising campaign has made me view the entire range as considerably less sexy than I did 4 months ago when I treated myself and my partner to some.

The women who are modelling the range look great though - you need to scroll down the blog post to see them.

Having said that, lingerie does make me feel sexy because I can see how my partner likes to look at me when I'm wearing it. It is his response to the lingerie that makes it sexy, rather than the lingerie being empowering for me. I wouldn't wear it for myself.

For every day sexy comfort I can recommend the Rosie range at M&S.

I was looking for a different recent article about the number of women celebs taking up boxing but this is better, and definitely empowering.
