“I also have a message to those people who believe they can restrict trans women’s rights, deny their human rights, or exclude them from women-only spaces in the name of feminism: You are not feminists. Your views are not welcome in the Liberal Democrats.”

Just in case anyone is interested in what the Lib Dems are saying.

It's fair to say Lynn's views aren't universal among party supporters.

Transsexuals have rights. Males who throw on a skirt and calll themselves Doris have their male rights.

The word woman is not up for debate. It isn’t what a minority of suspicious-intent males say it is.

Vixxxy · 03/02/2019 02:06

Really angers me when people frame this as feminists wanting to remove rights from transwomen. Rather than, you know, wishing t retain sex based rights. Its made out as if we want a rollback in some human rights or something, when actually, whats wanted is for women to retain womens rights, for women..as otherwise they don't exist at all (womens rights, not trans people obviously. As thats another thats annoying 'removing transwomens right to exist!)

supergrains · 03/02/2019 01:32

I'm an ex lib voter .... I'd already turned from them and never again after this bullshit.

littlbrowndog · 02/02/2019 22:43

Fannies. Ffs
They cut off your clitoris

PositivelyPERF · 02/02/2019 22:29

I must admit, I agree with you Juells. It’s too much like that odious term ‘kiddy fiddler’. It denigrates very serious abuse to very tongue in cheek term, appearing to minimise the seriousness of the abuse, even if unintentionally.

Use adult language when talking about the very serious abuse of little girls.

Juells · 02/02/2019 21:28

It's so belittling to talk about 'fannies' in relation to fgm. A fanny hero. 🤮🤮🤮

CallMeSirShotsFired · 02/02/2019 20:26

And yes strangely she is all to quick to recognise what sex FGM affects; before blatantly and violently transphobically, excluding female penises and assuming genders here.

Funny, that.

Lynne Featherstone seems to know what a woman is (and isn’t) perfectly well. Sad She and Nimco Ali are having a cute little twitter exchange about Lynne being a ‘fanny hero’ for her support of anti-FGM campaigning.

mobile.twitter.com/lfeatherstone/status/1091763868605579265

But then a few tweets down Lynne’s timeline Lynne is RTing weird anti-Posie Parker tweets from Paris Lees... Hmm

ProfessoressWoland · 02/02/2019 18:30

As she says herself - trans equality hadn't been on her radar and was no-one's priority, but she was impressed that civil servants had (magically) anticipated that she was a person who could inflict untold damage on women's rights and protections. Well done, civil servants in the Equalities Department. You saw her coming.

www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/ministers-reflect/person/lynne-featherstone/

Featherstone is now caught in a bind. She cannot admit that her legacy has been the worst assault on women's rights in generations. She has to 'spin' it as a victory for LGBTQ rights

This is the problem with so many politicians at the moment.
Thanks for the link Pam, I've been trying to find this interview, it gives interesting background to where we are today.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 18:19

Shes just parroting. No thought or she would have woken up to herself by now. Its like when you are told to 'be good' as a child then discover as an adult that hey, booze and sex are actually rather fun.

OldCrone · 02/02/2019 18:15

She hasnt actually thought about it.

But she's been saying this stuff since 2010. She's had 9 years to think about it. Why hasn't she?

All she's done is call us 'faux feminists' for stating the obvious fact that people can't change sex.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 02/02/2019 17:35

Fuck this shit. I'm going to just start pissing in the street, that's how liberal I am.

glitterbiscuits · 02/02/2019 16:45

I could cry. Another life long Liberal. There is so much I agree with them.

I can't vote for anyone.

Someone set up the common sense party.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 16:33

She hasnt actually thought about it. Really thought about it. Some people do just regurgitate soundbites that they read on twitter and dont engage their brain. Sadly spouting it in public as 'the official line' in public is a Very Bad Idea.

RepealTheGRA · 02/02/2019 16:32

Lynne is starting to make Layla look sane.

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/02/2019 16:32

We need to start making people say sex. I know we’re British, but the word gender means nowt.

Say sex. Be clear. If you mean gender, then sex stereotypes

welshgendercrit · 02/02/2019 16:31

There is a spectrum, and gender reassignment somehow sounded as though you had to reassign your gender surgically or medically or actually do something.

How on earth does she tell who is truly a woman or just trying it on, if no-one has to transition or do anything? Can she really believe any of this? Hmm

OldCrone · 02/02/2019 16:04

She truly believes gender identity transforms men into women

How does she think this happens? Is there some sort of magical transformation taking place as soon as a man says 'I identify as a woman' or 'I am a woman'? From what she says in that speech she clearly doesn't expect physical transformation of the body in any way.

There is a spectrum, and gender reassignment somehow sounded as though you had to reassign your gender surgically or medically or actually do something.

And I was having so much difficulty understanding what point she was making about sport and toilets and changing rooms that I went back to what Lord Lucas had said, as she appeared to disagree with him.

What he says seems quite sensible and even gender critical, with the view that nobody should have limits places on what they are or are not able to do simply because of their sex. He talks about the problems of men in women's sport and NHS wards and the dangers of transing children.

Lynne Featherstone's reply to that is
The only thing I would take issue with the noble Lord, Lord Lucas, on is men taking part in women’s sport; there are issues about toilets and changing rooms—and I am sorry that it has been so reductionist as to come down to that—for sport and for shelters. But those who transition are the other gender, and those who self-identify are the other gender. Those are details that need to be worked out.

Since she is disagreeing with Lord Lucas who says: We would be affecting an awful lot of women by allowing a few men to compete in women’s sport. Imagine the noble Lord, Lord Addington, coming down at you in women’s rugby. It would not be fun. I assume she is in favour of 'men in women's sport' as she puts it.

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/02/2019 15:26

I can only think that women like Lynne think that their position of relative wealth and power will protect them and their daughters.

Very probably. They’ll just eat you last. But they’ll still eat you.

SorryToDisturbYou · 02/02/2019 14:55

Previous 'dogwhistling' transphobic offences have included such things as asking 'Do you really think male rapists should be in female prisons?'

Luckily good old Sarah was there to reassure the blokes going "Wait, what?" that this was just thinly veiled bigotry because This Stuff Never Happens.

SorryToDisturbYou · 02/02/2019 14:49

The Lib Dem 'policy discussion' facebook page I'm a member of has just updated its rules so we can't discuss transgender issues

I can only think that women like Lynne think that their position of relative wealth and power will protect them and their daughters. I don't think it will, not entirely. Is anyone a constituent and could send her that courier article? Really dreadful, the women on here called it. Poor girl, though she was unbelievably brave and did so well. Her Mum sounds like she won't let this drop, I hope she doesn't.

She truly believes gender identity transforms men into women, conveniently forgetting women and children who will be abused by predatory men taking advantage of this naive notion.
I do wonder what the woke will do when they finally realise the damage done to women and children through their self righteous destruction of our rights. Probably wring their hands and look a little mournful before swiftly moving on to the next ‘cause’.
