“I also have a message to those people who believe they can restrict trans women’s rights, deny their human rights, or exclude them from women-only spaces in the name of feminism: You are not feminists. Your views are not welcome in the Liberal Democrats.”

Just in case anyone is interested in what the Lib Dems are saying.

"I've agreed with the Liberal Democrats that I'm not going to stand for councillor or MP for two years at least. That gives me time to ... heal after ... the pain that he's caused, it gives me time to have training, support, mentorship. That ... is desperately welcomed because it was missing in the Green Party".

Note that at no time does AC mention doing any actual fucking work on behalf of the Lib Dems. Or the local community.

Perhaps picking up litter from the canal, tackling poverty in the local area, or addressing loneliness and isolation for older people. All the things that an ordinary new member of a party might conceivably be involved in before standing for Parliament.

But not for AC, oh no. The two year timeframe is purely for the Lib Dems to provide AC with training, support and mentorship.

FiLiA made me chuckle today:

The word I was thinking was quite rude and I’m trying to be good 😇

VickyEadie · 04/02/2019 14:45

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD

The word you're looking for in your puzzlement is 'narcissist'.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/02/2019 14:29

If I rocked up to any party HQ and said ‘I’d like a position please’ they’d tell me to bigger off. And rightly so. But to give someone - who has just jumped onboard - with a chequered last and single focus of what ‘diversity’ is, is rather mind boggling.

Who would think that they are just entitled to have a position because they want one? What a brass neck!

VickyEadie · 04/02/2019 14:26

The notion that a person of this age and total lack of meaningful experience outside their (damaged and damaging) family and very limited interest-group 'community' might be given an 'officer' role in a political party is something of a concern. That it's a 'diversity' officer role when their only experience is of an incredibly limited range of 'diversity' tells me all I need to know about the Libdems and which 'diverse' group they're prioritising.

Juells · 04/02/2019 14:14

*it gives me time to have training, support, mentorship. That ... is desperately welcomed because it was missing in the Green Party".

Still think that they're entitled to be advising everyone else about diversity though. The quote above is just empty words.

GCAcademic · 04/02/2019 13:27

The Lib Dems stand fuck all chance of getting elected in Coventry.

I'm trying to imagine the campaigning, though. Can you imagine having Aimee turn up on your doorstep? Will she be telling the sizeable Asian community that they are transphobic bigots for not wanting penises in the leisure centre's female changing rooms?

PositivelyPERF · 04/02/2019 13:21

Good for Challenor junior. Hmm Unfortunately the little girl, that Challenor junior’s father tortured and abused in the family home, is unlikely to have healed in two years.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 04/02/2019 13:18

Good lord. Challenor as MP would be a disaster.

Popchyk · 04/02/2019 12:33

Ah, I misremembered it.

From the transcript on this thread.

Gives an insight into AC's self-awareness that AC thinks them standing as an MP in two years is going to happen.

Lib Dems really needs to look into the safeguarding issues that surround the role of Diversity Officer.

Bowlofbabelfish · 04/02/2019 12:31

Entryism.

I don’t think I saw any actual environmental campaigning from Challenor when they were a Green. Like Lily Madigan, they are in a post / party with a specific agenda (Green/women’s Officer) but they use that position to push their own agenda.

What Challenor did in the greens was push a highly pro trans - anti opposition agenda (for example trying to bring in a rule that anyone comitting serious offences would not automatically be ejected from the party.)

Challenor now, to any reputable organisation, is a liability. For them to jump ship shows how they had no green agenda at all.

Perhaps we can add Coventry to Leeds in our list of ‘places where something is amiss.’

Popchyk · 04/02/2019 12:23

Didn't AC say on the Radio 5 Live interview a couple of weeks ago that AC would not seek an official role in the Liberal Democrats for at least two years? In order to "heal".

Will see if I can find that.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 04/02/2019 12:20

Yep. Coventry Labour is all "TWAW and if you don't like it you can fuck off".

MillytantForceit · 04/02/2019 10:58

Voting LibDumb in Cov is a good definition of a wasted vote.

All the tofu-knitters commute in from Solihull.

welshgendercrit · 04/02/2019 10:54

We all know that Aimee Challenor has just been appointed as Diversity Officer for Coventry LibDems yes?

Why am I not surprised? How does Aimee get people to overlook their appalling record like this?

wigglybeezer · 04/02/2019 10:40

I've had a quick read of the Renew Party policy document, didn't spot any direct reference to identity politics and can see a lot of good ideas in there, immediately spotted some that have already been introduced in Scotland. Probably not left wing enough for some but I liked the profiles of their candidates in my area.
I don't know what their stance on self ID is but they seem keen on evidence based ideas which could be hopeful?

merrymouse · 04/02/2019 10:34

I wonder how many women Aimee is going to hound out of Coventry Lib Dems in her first month in post?

All 3 labour seats are safely labour, Coventry City Council is overwhelmingly labour and there are no Lib Dem councillors.

In 2016 the LDs did significantly worse than UKIP.

I suspect there may not be that many Coventry Lib Dems and would bet that nobody else wanted to be diversity officer.

I live in a very safe Tory seat and have always been under the impression that the other parties only spring into existence to show willing at election time. I imagine they struggle to have quorate meetings.

stillathing · 04/02/2019 10:17

I don't want to vote for a centrist left party either. I am much leftier than that! Trans activism does not compute to me as being at all left wing. Seriously done with this post truth bollockation.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/02/2019 10:13

Has the guardian covered it at all? 🤔

Seriously, after Bernie and Trump it’s like the world is working backwards these days. Opposite world and all that.

But I guess it just shows you that males do have the upper hand. A woman politician can’t fart in public without being hounded out of her job.

borntobequiet · 04/02/2019 10:00

Dear God they’re nuts.

MoreCheeseDear · 04/02/2019 09:58

No party supports we feminists.

Who can we vote for?

DrudgeJedd · 04/02/2019 09:49

Juells it appeared on Twitter over the weekend so fairly recent I think.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/02/2019 09:48

Tea that saw the diversity officer appointment. I never know it covered (finish stream yourself). Why did the trans folk not claim daddy as one of theirs? Didn’t they dress as a little girl when they committed his crimes for which they now in jail?
