I am aware that there already long threads on this, but would anyone mind just giving me the basic information about what so many people are objecting to? Is it just that she has attended an event run by a Right Wing organisation? Or is there more?
It just looks like a pile-on by left-wingers on my twitter feed.
In all events, it's a TRA dream - divide and rule.
Again, before anyone flames me, I know that there are 2 long threads on this, but I gave up the will to read them after people going on about breakfasts for post after post.

What’s wrong is you’re rehashing a topic that is discussed in multiple threads now and it’s a distraction from other issues. I think it’s a bit much to say, I can’t be bothered reading anything, explain it to me.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 31/01/2019 12:11

"British werewolf in America" would be a better title for this thread.

InSightMars · 31/01/2019 12:11

The saying goes that if you lie down with dogs you get up with fleas. You can twist and turn it any way you like but this leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. Espousing these ultra right-wing religious and fundamentally anti-feminist groups despite, to outward appearances, having common cause on trans issues, is not a good look. Their reasons are nothing to do with the erasure of women or women’s rights, on this issue their motives are rooted in hatred and bigotry.

This is pretty much an own goal imo, sometimes the end does not justify the means.

lucydo · 31/01/2019 12:08

ok - it just wasn't clear

So I watched the video link. Where does the Heritage foundation fit in with this? Are they opposing the Bill?

Yes of course they oppose the Bill, anyone with a hint of morality would do the same

OvaHere · 31/01/2019 11:56

The time for purity politics is over. Besides, do you think the tra's stick to one side of the political divide? No. They are everywhere, influencing policies from all sides.

Exactly. All lobby groups engage with both sides to achieve their aims. Let's not pretend TRAs haven't engaged those on the conservative side in order to change law and policy.

As for invalidating the GC argument there is nothing that Posie, or anyone else for that matter, could do that alters biological reality. She could offend every person on the planet but it still won't magically make people change sex or make placing rapists in women's prisons acceptable.

lucydo · 31/01/2019 11:55

because they're incredibly long, and TBH I lost the will to live with all the posting about breakfast. I'm sure it was all very clever and amusing, but I didn't get it. I can't see what's wrong with respectfully asking for clarification.

OP posts:
sueanddumplings · 31/01/2019 11:55

Don’t shoot me if I get it wrong, but my understanding is there’s a bout of historical unease with Posie because she’s been critical of how women are treated in other religions.

I'm not sure if it's just about that. Some of her tweets about Muslims don't have anything to do with how women are treated.

Oxytocindeficient · 31/01/2019 11:51

Can’t you just read the other threads on this? Why the need for another post?

lucydo · 31/01/2019 11:50

grinitch. thank you for that, and I'll look read it. But can you tell me how the previous video on this thread fits in with all this?

OP posts:
BlooperReel · 31/01/2019 11:48

I don't agree with everything Posie says or does, but by God I admire her gumption, as others have said, the Left will simply not countenance any debate on this issue, Posie is taking the platforms she can get.

I don't need to hold hands and sing kumbayah with every woman the world over to be supportive of womens right, I can actively dislike another woman, or any number of them, and still advocate and be supportive of their rights.

GrinitchSpinach · 31/01/2019 11:48

I've been collecting videos and photos of the efforts here, and this thread has stayed pretty information-focused (people are doing their arguing elsewhere) and not too long. So if you'd like to understand how all the efforts are fitting together, please take a look:

"I don't think a video of storming into someone's workplace and bullying them is helpful. That's just my opinion."

I think a little extra information is needed here. The person was NOT "ambushed" at their workplace, because the meeting which Posie and the other woman went into was held at the Senate building, a public place, and as someone on the following Facebook page points out, a lobbyist does not have the Senate as a place of work, that is the place where they go to push the agenda of the body paying them.
I have absolutely no doubt, that had that been someone's workplace, particularly in the US, then armed guards would have been called pretty quickly.

I'd like to see some solutions offered to our American sisters rather than roundly criticising them.

We in the UK have pushed and pushed and pushed and managed to get our message out there, because we already have laws in place to protect us (EA 2010) and we found out about self id before it was quietly slipped through.

America is very different and many states have already created self id type laws without anyone knowing about it.

Girls as young as 13 are getting double mastectomies. The media celebrates this, there is no criticism anywhere.

These parents are utterly silenced. They have nowhere else to turn.

The time for purity politics is over. Besides, do you think the tra's stick to one side of the political divide? No. They are everywhere, influencing policies from all sides.

LangCleg · 31/01/2019 10:53

Thanks all for the answers, so, unless someone can disabuse me, it's a case of the search for idealogical purity.

Yes. With some personal conflict added in.

In my view, there's room for everyone and we don't have to agree on the best alliances and/or tactics, just as long as we're all at least trying to do something in our own way.

Also: right wing women are women.

Needmoresleep · 31/01/2019 10:51

For whatever reason some people seem to think only left wing feminists have a right to speak out about women being erased. So object when women who dont meet their definition speak out. I wonder why.

The problem here seems to be that left leaning groups would not provide a platform, so GC women took advantage of the platform that was offered...without compromising their views or message.

Per we should all be good women and wait till invited by those who control the left leaning platforms. If so we may be waiting a long time.

SugarPlumFairy99 · 31/01/2019 10:49

Bernard I don't think a video of storming into someone's workplace and bullying them is helpful. That's just my opinion.

OldCrone · 31/01/2019 10:48

It is a faith based organisation who fight against infanticide amongst other things

I noticed on one of the newspaper reports linked on the surrogacy thread the other day that they quoted an anti-abortion group as a group who were opposed to surrogacy.

The world is not quite as clear-cut and black and and white as the TRAs would like it to be.

Juells · 31/01/2019 10:47

Refusing to work with people who share our interests in this area would deprive us of a valuable source of support

AFAICS the only politicians in the UK that are supporting women in this are right wing, the left doesn't give a shit about women as long as they can virtue-signal. So why should women eschew any group that will give them a chance to be heard?

So what if Posie doesn't agree with everything that every other woman in the world thinks? So what if you think some of her views are wrong? If you agree with the main thing she's fighting for - women's rights - then support her in that.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 31/01/2019 10:46

Well when you do your direct action Sugar, that’s the way you should do it then Smile

SugarPlumFairy99 · 31/01/2019 10:44

There seems to be some pushback on Twitter regarding this.

I don't think Posie's tactics are helpful to the cause if I'm honest. I'd favour respectful debate over what looks like harassment.

Watch the actual video of the talk, which should include the Heritage Foundation Chairs pre-amble. Linked above.

I watched it, and I am extremely grateful to the Heritage foundation for providing a platform for discussion of the issues.

I would characterize the content of what was said as left leaning radical feminist.

Even questions from the audience were very supportive.

Its good to get out of your echo chamber from time to time.

OldCrone · 31/01/2019 10:41

the Left is antagonistic towards women on this issue.

Which means, for those on the left, stay with the left and actively work against women on this issue, or work with those who agree on this one issue even though you may disagree with their views on just about everything else.

It's always going to be a compromise, but if women lose the ability to define ourselves as a class, it is the first step to losing all our other rights.
