I should be ignoring this, and making the tea..... Liz is a TRA and her twitter storytime is as follows: yesterday, she says she infiltrated Posie's session, and gives a twitter read-out - an account which contains absolutely no substantive information at all. There follows innumerable comments, presumably from her woke following, asking "y' alright hun?" and telling her how stunning and brave she was to avoid capture in the lion's den of horrible transphobic bigots.

They seem to have overlooked the fact that the whole thing was broadcast live on Facebook, and therefore she could have listened to it from the comfort of her sofa and avoided what her followers tell her could have been "confrontational". By all accounts she sat there saying nothing - except to thank Venice Allan for handing over some stickers, which is what you do when you're "under cover" I guess? We know she did this, because she helpfully provides a photo of the stickers - sort of trophy stickers, I presume.

Then back in the safety of her own twitter feed, she dramatically declares "I am safe" - almost as if to imply she only managed to escape catastrophic injury by the skin of her teeth. Then, obviously traumatised by her day with the Haters, she posts a picture of herself holding a bat. The sort TRAs encase in barbed wire Confused

The most worrying thing about it all for me that is, is she looks kind of normal.. like the sort of person I might hire as a babysitter. I will never go out again. Right... I must peel some spuds....

Liz refers to themself as a transwoman in the tweet thread.

NotMeOhNo · 29/01/2019 00:44

Oooh ooh oooooh!
My first sighting ever of the term "woke" used unironically by a "woke" person!

Yeps Anne
That person promoting violence with that baseball bat

I sometimes wonder why women haven't taken up arms. Tazers in baby girls' Bounty packs?

NotTerfNorCis · 28/01/2019 23:15

MRAs are also keen on threats of violence, and the women can be just as bad. I remember Janet Bloomfield promising to murder or disable any feminist who came to her door, using a crossbow. Yet another TRA/MRA parallel. Strange how feminists don't talk the same way...

AnneHutchinson · 28/01/2019 23:13

I think it’s important to note that at the last Dyke March in San Francisco, where the Degenderettes originated these bats and carried them while wearing t-shirts with mock blood on them, lesbians WERE roughed up by transactivists tearing their signs from their hands and tripping one women to the ground.

It isn’t just a threat of violence. It’s actual assault taking place and, by the way, not repudiated by a single LGBT organisation in the US.

Danaquestionseverything · 28/01/2019 23:03

No that’s ok I thought that would be why. It’s quite a niche movie. DH loves Escape from New York. Will have to keep an eye out for the blue ray.

Danaquestionseverything · 28/01/2019 23:00

Mine too.

AspieAndProud · 28/01/2019 22:58

Class of 84 also has similar vibe.

That was going to be my second choice if I hadn’t gone for Escape from New York - but I wasn’t sure anyone but me would remember it!

It’s due out on Blu-ray in a month or so, as is Class of 1999 (not a direct sequel but from the same director).

Melroses · 28/01/2019 22:52

Ahhhhhhhhh just come in and seen the photo!!!! Not reading - its bedtime.

But standing there in your knickers with a baseball bat for twitter?
Confused Confused Confused Confused

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/01/2019 22:51

No i agree re witch

I loved mr ledger as the joker so im probably biased

But my favourite bit is when harley is getting dressed in front of all the soldiers and talking about what the voices in her head are telling her...very funny

Dd uses those lines....A LOT

Danaquestionseverything · 28/01/2019 22:51

I could answer what he’s holding but I may be banned AAK Confused

Danaquestionseverything · 28/01/2019 22:49

I didn’t mind it either Rufus thought Margot Robbie nailed it. I agree joker was rubbish. I’m partial to Heath Ledger’s Joker, though that could be some Aussie bias. The soundtrack kicked ass. Didn’t like the witch thing I just cringed every time it was on screen.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/01/2019 22:47

angry

That sounds like my dh telling ds1 boyfriend how to hold a knife while carving pumpkins

The poir lad is 22...he looked so panicked Grin

So yeah...i reckon the confusion would work!!!

AngryAttackKittens · 28/01/2019 22:44

For me it'll be "you don't want to hold it like that, love, you'll take your own thumb off that way - here, let me show you".

(Steals knife and runs away)

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/01/2019 22:42

It looks fairly ineffectual whatever it is

Thats how im gonna die

Telling a gang member his weapon looks ineffectual Sad

Hopefully he wont be too bright and ill be able to make my escape while he tries to figure out what ineffectual means

AngryAttackKittens · 28/01/2019 22:40

What's the gang member in the middle holding? It looks like some sort of melted spatula.

Dragon3 · 28/01/2019 22:40

Nico Hines refers to herself as 'cis'.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/01/2019 22:39

I really enjoyed suicide squad

Wasnt keen on the joker though

Danaquestionseverything · 28/01/2019 22:38

Well to be fair I guess I don’t know that it is meant to be an homage to Harley. Who knows the motivation (except intimidation).

But visually they do come across as a two dollar shop Harley wannabe. I find it quite offensive myself, Harley is iconic. I know this because I’ve listened to DS2 wax lyrical about the superiority of DC Comics compared to Marvel and how it’s unfortunate that the films have been made by studios quick to make a profit and crap directors. The exception of course being Nolan’s Batman Trilogy. I also took a bunch of 13 year old boys to see Suicide Squad. So I identify as an expert.

Love the reference to The Warriors and Escape from New York. Class of 84 also has similar vibe. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Smile.

AngryAttackKittens · 28/01/2019 22:38

So now we're not allowed to point out that mums may generally balk at the idea of hiring people who pose with weapons while making vaguely threatening statements to babysit their kids? Honestly, @MNHQ, you really need to be a bit more discerning about which reports you treat as serious.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/01/2019 22:33

Thats how im gonna die

Sniggering at a gang Sad

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/01/2019 22:33

A particular favourite

AspieAndProud · 28/01/2019 22:31

And by Christ is it dated

I think there’s only one gun in the film. Even in the Seventies that was odd.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/01/2019 22:29

I always want to know what deleted messages say Sad

I remember one

Ill pm you
