A 'genderqueer' 'discordion' is now objecting to the term 'homosexual'.

For real.

For some reason, I can't attach the screenshot.

I detest being referred to as "queer". That's something that was used to bully me at school. In the 1990s, yes. It's the same to me as being called a fag. I don't have any desire to reclaim either.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 24/01/2019 12:25

They view women as interchangeable units who should always be available.

Blessed be the fruit.

userschmoozer · 24/01/2019 12:15

You view your sexuality as being about you; activists who tell you that you should be pansexual are saying that they view women as interchangeable units who should always be available.

Whatsallthisaboutthen · 24/01/2019 12:08

I’m bisexual and have been told that’s transphobic too because to be truly woke I should should say I’m pansexual (pangenderal?!) 🤷‍♀️ Except I’m not, I’m bi, because I fancy men and I fancy women. Sigh.

FloralBunting · 24/01/2019 11:59

I remember homo being used, lemon quite a lot. Homosexual was probably only used with disdain in Church circles, and only very subtly - it was the term used by those who still believed it was a sin, but weren't aggressively unpleasant about it. Really vociferous church types were much more likely to use 'Sodomite'.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 24/01/2019 09:39

The problem is that pretty much any word to describe a group can be appropriated as an insult. When I was at school "gay" and "homo" were commonly used as insults. I can't really remember "homosexual" being used though. And words that were neutral originally get twisted (e.g. "spastic"). It's the intent and context isn't it? e.g. Jew.

merrymouse · 24/01/2019 08:45

If LGBT just became Q to include everyone under the ‘queer umbrella’, would they also have intersectional responsibility for fighting climate change or is that just feminists?

ErrolTheDragon · 23/01/2019 23:59

I vote we try to make "homogenderal" a thing, for gender identitarian types.

If you google, others have coined this already (eg it's used in fairplayforwomen.com/lesbians-erasure-feminism-6/)

Ereshkigal · 23/01/2019 23:34

The last to AAK. Sorry that happened to you Floral Thanks

Ereshkigal · 23/01/2019 23:33

There was an awful trans one too apparently where supposedly dowdy women got told what to do to make themselves sexier by MTFs. Laverne Cox was in it.

FloralBunting · 23/01/2019 23:28

Omg, really? Queer wasn't an insult in the 90's? 1998 was the year I got punched in the back of the head after kissing my girlfriend goodbye at the station, and the words "Fucking queer lezza" were among the choice epithets thrown as well as fists.

AngryAttackKittens · 23/01/2019 23:27

Isn't there an utterly crap "updated" version of that show now?

OlennasWimple · 23/01/2019 23:18

I'm another straight woman who wouldn't use "queer" to describe someone (except occasionally I might use the word in the older sense of "a bit odd", with friends and family who would know what I meant)

I certainly wouldn't use it as a synonym for gay. If gay people want to reclaim it, then fine - but I won't use the N word for black people either, even if they use it about themselves

As an aside - can anyone imagine "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" being made today? They wouldn't even be able to agree the title....

userschmoozer · 23/01/2019 23:12

Steady Grin

AngryAttackKittens · 23/01/2019 23:08

A TRA poem

Rose are red
My balls are blue
Say no to me
And I'll have the police call you

Ereshkigal · 23/01/2019 23:03

I vote we try to make "homogenderal" a thing, for gender identitarian types.

AngryAttackKittens · 23/01/2019 22:48

So wait, how are we meant to refer to gay people then? Homogenderal?

I suppose for lesbians their answer would be "evil bigot who makes my balls blue".

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 23/01/2019 22:36

Not a problem pombear.

It's the complete lack of awareness of other people's thoughts and feelings.

Gays and lesbians who have fought to have their sexualities and same sex relationships to be recognised are now being told they're wrong and transphobic.

By youngsters who have no idea what people before them have gone through.

The disrespect and ingratitude is astonishing.

Indeed. Though they are in their mid to late 30s, judging by Twitter. But can't conceive that anyone else has had a different experience.

StrangeLookingParasite · 23/01/2019 22:30

Because this person isn't very old, and is spectacularly solipsistic.

Ereshkigal · 23/01/2019 22:11

It was a hideous playground insult when I was growing up.

This TRA is angrily and bombastically lecturing everyone that it's "gay" and "homosexual" that are the slurs. Including actual lesbian and gay people.

pombear · 23/01/2019 22:09

WTFisAGleepgorp not 'welp' ffs. Sorry Gleepgorp, no idea why I decided to address the title not the poster, particularly as I love your user name and remember what it means!

Ereshkigal · 23/01/2019 22:08

Stonewall & the transactivist movement are worse homophobes than Thatcher's government ever were. They're certainly far more dangerous to lesbians.

So sad. Such a male rights movement Thanks

pombear · 23/01/2019 22:06

Grass roots Welp, grass roots. Whilst these people are bleating on social media, women are amassing, gathering, talking in real life.

These social media trans-warriors I suspect haven't experienced proper conversations, meeting in real life, movements and actions away from twitter and the like.

We are witnessing a ramping up of the narrative, their fear of women talking, gathering, away from social media, it must be worrying for them to realise there's a world away from the keyboard that they can't control.

When you live your life through social media, it potentially narrows your world and makes you believe that control is within your own hands.

To see women rejecting that, and starting to build back up networks and conversations that aren't within your perceived 'control' I guess it must be concerning for them.

'Flailing' is the word that comes to mind.

Welp maybe you're 'out' in terms of social media. Understandable, given the harsh environment.

But don't forget the value of normal human conversations, outside of social media like twitter.

I had one today, accidentally through work, that may have encouraged three other women to investigate this subject. They may agree or disagree with me in the end (I suspect they'll be on the gender critical side, due to their line of work which impacts women) but we had the conversation outside of twitterland.

Step by step.

Conversation by conversation.

We can help people outside of twitterland to start critcially thinking about this issue. All is not lost.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 23/01/2019 22:05

And as a straight woman, I usually back away from these things because it's not my place. But at least I know what a lesbian is, and it's not a straight woman or a bloke.

Straight or otherwise, I'd rather have women like you standing with me than Ruth Hunt & Linda Riley any day. We need all the voices we can get!
