"Tens of thousands of pounds has been raised for transgender charity Mermaids, thanks to a Twitch streamer playing Donkey Kong 64 for an entire day.

HBomberGuy (Harry Brewis), a popular UK-based content creator who has more than 300,000 subscribers on YouTube, came up with an unlikely way to raise money for the embattled transgender children’s charity, which recently had part of its lottery funding suspended after a campaign from anti-trans activists."

That's good. She's still listed as part of the medical team at GenderGP, which Mermaids link to on their site.

With all this going on, you'd think SG would care more about the brand image of the charity Confused

Needs must I suppose.

Can't remember if there's still something happening with the GMC over that, does anyone know?

Yes, I think they have allowed themselves extra time for their ongoing investigation.

PencilsInSpace · 21/01/2019 09:47

And yes, fuck off lads.

PencilsInSpace · 21/01/2019 09:47

There's a current government investigation into why the number of adolescent girls transitioning has risen by over 4000% in eight years.

There's also an internal review underway at Tavistock & Portman over concerns that children are being fast tracked to medical intervention, and about a perceived lack of regard for ROGD.

I haven't heard anything more about either of these since they were announced.

These are in addition to the Big Lottery Fund investigation into Mermaids and the recently concluded investigations into Helen Webberley's practice which ended with her prosecution. Can't remember if there's still something happening with the GMC over that, does anyone know?

The thing is, 10 more years of being low key and it would be so much easier as more of today's youth would be in positions of power.
It's brilliant, but it's been rushed. It was supposed to be under the radar and already it's failed that.
Something has happened to get those in power to make the push now and it's very sloppy of them to do it.

Katispancuddly · 21/01/2019 09:26

And they might make a million from well meaning but ill informed people, but if this money is coming from overseas to fund what is essentially a lobby group in the UK, then surely that's an issue.

Whatever they do I'm fighting my battles on the ground, we are mums and we don't give up.

Katispancuddly · 21/01/2019 09:22

Woke and left wing then you believe in mermaids agenda without question. You feel like you're socking it too the man. You are fighting against the system. The system that oppresses children! Fight for the kids and anyone who says otherwise is a fascist.

The irony is Mermaids is the man. They are the system. They even seem to have the police at their beck and call. Politicians parrot the narrative. You're right bernard it's totally top down .

No one seems ever to be able to show me the evidence to calm my worries. I have first hand experience of this and it breaks my heart. It's a tragedy in the making.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 21/01/2019 09:14

It's why it's so important people know what's happening, because although we can't stop it, society is able to protect itself, and each other if we know.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 21/01/2019 09:12

they are actively pushing this knowing full well the man on the street isn't buying it

yes, I always bear in mind the Economist article on this - if this social change goes ahead it will be the first time change like this has ever been imposed top down, rather than emerging from grass roots campaigns

this is about social control

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 21/01/2019 09:04

The government would be "how can this be happening! there must be an objective study! we must have an inquiry!" as quick as a shot if they had a sense of the wind changing on this.

They really won't, this is being pushed by them, it's not that they don't know what's happening or how the public are feeling, it's that they are actively pushing this knowing full well the man on the street isn't buying it.

Alexandria ocasio Cortez, the newly elected congresswoman in America, has tweeted in support of the fundraiser. This does seem like a kids company scandal in the making.

If you call someone an SJW while criticising their actions but don't critique their opposition to the alt right and PUAs it looks dodgy. Or maybe I've misunderstood your post because it's unclear.

nauticant · 21/01/2019 08:45

SunsetBeetch · 21/01/2019 08:36

Nope. I reckon investigative journalism or a whistle blower.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 21/01/2019 08:09

It certainly won't come from the government, they are actively encouraging it.

nauticant · 21/01/2019 08:04

I'm not that bothered about spats on twitter.

As I said above I think people should not be prevented from raising money for Mermaids.

What bothers me is Mermaids encouraging transitioning of children who, if left alone, would turn out not to have long term and debilitating gender dysphoria. That's it for me. How long will it take for there to be loud enough voices coming from the media, the government, and the medical establishment asking whether children are being harmed?

Katispancuddly · 21/01/2019 07:54

I think we have valid concerns. This is all new, we don't know the long term effect of hormone blockers, we don't know why there's an increase of 4000 % in young girls identifying as boys. We see studies showing 60/80% of none medicalised "trans" children actually desisting. But the push is to get them all on blockers to "give them time".

We are worried! Doctors are worried, teachers are worried. But if you say that the response is:
The response is T*RF, BURN THE WITCH, PUNCH THOSE NAZIS.

sunset totally agree

HomeStar · 21/01/2019 07:50

I hope some of these people will have the grace to apologise when Mermaids inevitably flames out in a huge scandal and is disbanded. In fact I hope they specifically apologise to Glinner since they seem to be doing this to spite him... (somehow? I don’t get it myself but but I’m not versed in advanced spite logic.)

Katispancuddly · 21/01/2019 07:44

I think we need to make sure the national lottery and other uk funding bodies see the letter from the paediatric consultants regarding their concerns with hormone blockers.

It's in stark contrast to the advice given by Mermaids.

SunsetBeetch · 21/01/2019 07:35

Skyzalimit No. Did I say that?

I do think it's rather ironic that they are anti MRA and yet call women terfs and are generally shitty towards anyone who has concerns about trans activism.

I see the fan bois and gurls have landed, then.

Skyzalimit · 21/01/2019 07:29

SunsetBeetch

user They aren't just gamers, they are also SJWs. They do/did videos crtiquing the alt right, PUAs and (ironically) MRAs too.

...and you have a problem with this????? What kind of 'feminist' are you?!
