Women's March London says trans voices should be elevated over women's voices

Women's march london is a fully intersectional and trans inclusive collective, as laid out in our guiding principles. We fully recognise trans women as women and sisters and welcome them to all our actions. We acknowledge that all who were assigned female at birth, including our trans brothers and some non-binary siblings share many of the same struggles and believe that the voices of trans men and AFAB non-binary people should always be heard and elevated in discussions of reproductive justice or menstrual equity.
We will not tolerate anyone who comes to our actions or our spaces with the intent to cause harm to others and believe that transphobia has no place in feminist action. Bread and Roses is an all genders action and one where we hope people of all genders and none can feel safe and welcome. If any trans sibling feels threatened or unsafe on the march we urge them to come speak to our stewards or one of the organisers and we will do our best to help.

a PLEDGE to protect and serve each other with love, unity and solidarity

Unless they're disobedient women. By 'each other' we mean 'people who think like us and do as they're told'.

Gordon Bennet the sheer naivety and obliviousness to the obvious. It's like being stuck in a never ending school lunchtime with year 9.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 19/01/2019 17:59

a CONVICTION to call out any racism or form of phobia we see online and offline.

Oh except gynophobia. That one's fine, keep ignoring that one.

Oh and racism doesn't include women of faith or cultural needs who can't prioritise men in their spaces: you can exclude and ignore them all you like.

Violence to women - well no, you mustn't look too closely at that one either, because there's definitely no identifiable group causing the issues and definitely no excuse for severely traumatised women not to prioritise the identity needs of men over themselves.

Oh go on then, excluding and isming any biological female with different needs and opinions is fine. They are only women after all.

But other than that, we're totally all anti phobias and isms and really convicted. Check our virtue cookies.

Malta has a law which absolves a man who abducts a woman if she subsequently marries him.

(See Wiki "Women's Rights In Malta)

R0wantrees · 19/01/2019 17:21

from the Just Giving page to pay for today's sound system:

Story
"Reminiscent of the 1912 Bread & Roses protests which revolutionised workers’ rights for women, Women’s March London will galvanise thousands for a Bread & Roses rally against Austerity in the United Kingdom. It is the common denominator in the rise of economic oppression, violence against women, gender pay gap, racism, fascism, institutional sexual harassment, hostile environment and Brexit.

With the imminence of Brexit, we want austerity to end and are demanding specific assurances from the UK government. It is time to eliminate the dividing line between the ‘Haves’ and ‘Have Nots’. Equality demands that we all get to thrive and not just survive. We demand Prosperity not Austerity.

Protesters will join the #WeAreChange call for action which is (i) a PLEDGE to protect and serve each other with love, unity and solidarity; (ii) a PROMISE to exercise our civic duty to vote in every circumstance that will shape a progressive society; and (iii) a CONVICTION to call out any racism or form of phobia we see online and offline.

The Bread & Roses Jan 19 rally will replicate the defiance and celebration of previous marches and rallies by Women’s March London, which led to thousands of people taking to the streets of central London. It will see people from diverse communities, faiths, sex, race, political affiliations and backgrounds stand up and show up to speak with one voice #WeAreChange."

There's often a familiar tone.

as for pledging to call out all phobias, I think that's a big ask. Lots of folks expressing arachnophobia Hmm

AngryAttackKittens · 19/01/2019 15:13

These are the same people who a few years ago were gushing about Iran being "progressive" on trans issues.

Any time you find yourself writing the words "Iran is progressive" it may be time to reevaluate your life choices a bit.

There was a thread last year which provided some evidence that for Malta it was all about tax avoidance type stuff

Malta does not have a good women's rights record.

merrymouse · 19/01/2019 15:10

From Wikipedia:

Fifteen general elections have been contested since the granting of universal suffrage in Malta in 1947. Only 73 women have contested in these elections. The number of men, on the other hand, has exceeded 1000.

But everything is 'chill' in Malta.

FlyingOink · 19/01/2019 15:07

Ereshkigal we had that story about the gym in Norway, Ireland we know doesn't really do self-id anyway, and Argentina - well they didn't start from sexual equality in the first place.

She mentioned all the countries that have self ID (RoI, Argentina, Malta, Norway). Apparently she’d been to Malta recently and it was “really chill.”

HoC, what have we learned so far? Anyone? Anyone? …… anyone?

That with enough money you can ride out and benefit from any financial disaster.

FlyingOink · 19/01/2019 14:40

I'm a lifelong feminist and leftist, and these people annoy the living shit out of me. How much of a gift does that make them to people who hate both feminism and the left?

Sometimes I wonder if they were all created in a lab by Steve Bannon.

With talk from the Women's March of whose voices should be elevated.
Today news that The Freedom Programme has likely been targetted in an attempt to silence the charity on Twitter.

I'm just surprised that LOJ that the good doctor haven't turned up to lecture everyone on what it takes me to be a real woman... I think this crowd would be surprisingly receptive to that.

JSmitty · 19/01/2019 14:24

"Sometimes I wonder if they were all created in a lab by Steve Bannon."

More likely by Uncle Vlad and his troll factory.

Putin's had a thing about bolshie feminists ever since Pussy Riot, and his new laws allowing domestic violence that leaves bruises but not cuts are having a chilling effect as desired.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/01/2019 14:13

Out of me. Presumably out of many other people too.

People who have virtue are oppressed and only people with virtue can be oppressed, so we can ignore Tory scum if we are on the left just as people on the right ignore 'lazy scroungers'.

I'm not sure who they are marching for or who they are calling 'women', but it clearly doesn't include me.

I looked at The Facebook page and found it extremely irritating- not especially or particularly by the point being discussed here.

I think it was the combination of a nasty dig at Theresa May, someone wittering on about almost every thought in feminism having come from a black woman, the endless links to Guardian articles and the general air of superior sanctimoniousness.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 19/01/2019 14:00

It's about excluding people outside the tribe who aren't worthy of being sisters/siblings/comrades.

Well, trying to. And trying to force people to believe it's the new mainstream thinking. Where largely the mainstream is too busy with things like work and families and paying the bills to notice.

It reminds me of Peter Mandelson, whose distorted sense of self and personal importance I would love to hear a psychiatrist's assessment of, announcing that we were (because he said so) entering a 'post democratic era'. By which he meant democracy was no longer needed, because people like him would just make decisions on behalf of the proles so they could not bother their little heads with things they couldn't understand. And the bad ones who disagreed just hadn't yet got with the programme/needed laws to punish them and shut them up.

He failed to notice that at that point many voters entered a post politician era. This path, as we know, led to the magical joys of Brexit.

HoC, what have we learned so far? Anyone? Anyone? …… anyone?

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/01/2019 13:55

Incredible indeed.

In the literal sense.

merrymouse · 19/01/2019 13:37

Canada?

Dawn Butler MP (Shadow minister for Women & Equalities) was the keynote speaker at the TRA conference organised by Jane Fae, 'We're Still Here'

thread, 'We’re Still Here Conference 8th September: A report from the inside' OP, TheHarpySings wrote:
(extract)
"3) Keynote Speech: Dawn Butler MP: Shadow Women & Equalities

This speech was fucking cringe. She said she was an ally of LGBT but had got a lot of messages moaning at her for “betraying women”. “Despite the fact I AM a woman.”

She mentioned all the countries that have self ID (RoI, Argentina, Malta, Norway). Apparently she’d been to Malta recently and it was “really chill.”

She blames the Tories for allowing this debate to drag on. “It is cruel.”

The impact of self ID are “non existent”. She said if this had been done swiftly there would be none of the current fuss or transphobia.

She said

  1. the LGBT community needs to mobilise
  2. They need to contribute to the consultation
  3. They need to change the tone of the debate (lolercaust)

She also went on to say that a “phobia” is an irrational fear and there are three treatments:

  1. Hypnosis
  2. Talking therapy
  3. Immersion therapy

Apparently the only way forward to deal with transphobia is talking therapy. DB said that the conservation needs to be around counties that already have self ID and it’s “fine”

Hilariously, given that the audience contained fucking Dr Harrop, she said something like “keyboard warriors don’t know the consequences of their actions.”

DB: “Labour will champion the unheard.”

She said that this was another form of Section 28 on the trans community.

She then quoted at length from a song from “The Greatest Showman”. I wish I was making that up.

Also, she got cornered by Mermaids reps on the way out and is meeting with them and their kids soon." (continues)

Women's March London says trans voices should be elevated over women's voices
merrymouse · 19/01/2019 13:26

This isn't about inclusivity or human rights or women's rights. It's about excluding people outside the tribe who aren't worthy of being sisters/siblings/comrades.

Terfing · 19/01/2019 13:06

From the photos, it looks like Monroe is wearing a fur coat! Shock

I hope it's faux!

Yes, exactly.
