Apparently this is a thing.

There is no scientifcally backed evidence that says parsley can induce menstruation

Sorry, JY.

Pretty horrified a mainstream magazine is publishing stuff alluding to a diy termination. As in because of the risk to women health I have no issue with women choosing to terminate a pregnancy

Ok that link keeps jump starting into a spammy pop up after a few minutes of being left idle so don't click.

But there are numerous hits for parsley in vagina as natural abortion. So it does appear to be a thing.

CesiraAndEnrico · 19/01/2019 09:08

but I never heard that parsley is one of them

Parsley is referred to as a common method of inducing abortion in this story of a woman's death

Someone who I knew a while back was a chemist and they had a recipe for a tea made of parsley and some other herbs that was 'guaranteed to bring on the menses'. I believe the parsley was dried in the recipe. She had all the ingredients and was fairly sure it would work if she should get pregnant. She lived in the US. Just to be clear, one drank the tea. It wasn't a douche or a pessary.

Sarahjconnor I was in Waitrose yesterday and without one of the 100 or so shopping bags that clutter up my home, I was forced to purchase a 5p one, clearly I should have thought outside the box, or bag.

Jackshouse · 19/01/2019 08:37

I worry that this article while not helpful or safe is try to plug the internation gap of accessible, safe and timely terminations. It’s shocking in 2019 that women is so called developed country don’t have this. I am looking at you Ireland, USA and the rest of the UK.

fernie of course we’re lucky to live somewhere that this kind of advice can be laughed at. But we are capable of laughing and taking it seriously. It is dreadful that any woman or girl should only have this kind of thing to try.

ferniepoos · 18/01/2019 23:58

Isn't it lovely and oh so hilarious to live in an age where one doesn't have to turn to herbal remedies to end an unwanted pregnancy? How positively rib-tickling to think of a world where a woman does not have any autonomy over her own body and doesn't have to poke greens up her fanjo to ward off pregnancy. Hmm

Those prone to plant allergies have been known to break out in chives

userschmoozer · 18/01/2019 22:41

You will rue the day etc.

Barracker · 18/01/2019 22:40

Which was sage advice.

It used to be DillDon't of course, in less adventurous thymes.

Have never heard or met anyone putting green stuff up their fanjos. Live yoghurt for thrush is as whacky as I've seen.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 18/01/2019 22:18

Dr Sheila Newman reiterated the warning to avoid putting parsley in the vagina, telling us: “That is not something that is recommended by gynaecologists.

“There are only a few things that should go in your vagina and vegetables generally aren’t one of them.”

@mrsdewinter I think that's because castor oil contains ricin

thefirstmrsdewinter · 18/01/2019 21:36

Pmsl at this thread but wondering if it is in fact true that the reason I had so much hassle buying (ie had to order on the internet) castor oil is because it has been used as an abortifacient? Or is that nonsense?

Loyaltemelie depending how well you know your customer you definitely should add a final note to your risk assessment with a link. Chances are the customer won't have read all the way to the end and it will only be months or years down the line someone will notice it and be Shock

Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
For once she was a true love of mine

Have her make me a vaginal pessary
(Made of) Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
If she asks, what the fuck - is this necessary?
Then she'll be a true love of mine
