I'm not sure if this has been posted?

"A local drag community in Newcastle have come together in style to create a one-of-a-kind 2019 calendar, with all proceeds going to charity to support transgender children and young people across the UK."

The February and March photos are attached.

nauticant , there is something of the flying monkeys/psychopath about anyone who could say it is ok to frighten children in the name of male sexual validation.

In the first photo pencil uploaded, the little girl looks visibly scared of the man in a dress.. what is even more terrifying to me, is her mother (?) is there holding her hand teaching her, her first lesson in self-abasement to male sexual pleasure.

ChewyLouie · 16/01/2019 09:58

Beer I feel its because the message that children need to specifically be exposed to men in drag in order to learn to be accepting and nice of all men in women’s clothing is akin to saying children need to protect adults’ feelings. Children should be raised to have good manners, they do not need to learn to feel protective towards adults. In dysfunctional families, children often take on an emotional burden that should not be theirs, this looks similar to me. It really raises my hackles.

nauticant · 16/01/2019 09:58

Seeing all of the Nothing to see here on this thread has been an absolute eye-opener. It really does look like some people are willing to water down safeguarding of children in the interests of men who occupy the trans/drag/AGP cross-over space.

It is gobsmacking.

GCSocScientist · 16/01/2019 09:51

Here pencils, I think it might be better phrased this way:

"The one on the left is from the home page of Drag Queen Story Hour Horror Story."

Drag Queen Story Hour Horror Story is an initiative that aims to normalize adult sex play to primary and pre-primary school aged children.

Beerflavourednipples · 16/01/2019 09:47

I haven't seen a live drag act, but I did watch that Courtney Act show on channel 4 at Christmas. Obviously it was on really late because it was completely and utterly inappropriate for kids because drag isn't for kids.

'Kid friendly drag' would be your pantomime dame with 'oooooh the prince's balls get bigger ever year' type innuendo at the very worst. That is not what this calendar is and isn't what Desmond and Lactatia are involved in either and as far as I can see, nursery kids aren't being read to by pantomime dames either.

ChewyLouie · 16/01/2019 09:45

Thanks Ereshkigal it was a rhetorical question, plenty of AGPs must be over the moon with this drag queen Trojan Horse opportunity.

Beerflavourednipples · 16/01/2019 09:43

Four year olds are still making sense of the world with themselves at the centre of the universe, there is no need to make them aware of an adult man’s painful experiences.

This keeps resonating with me for some reason.

There is so much of this going on, it's alllllllll about adult men and their feelings it seems. I'm mean no one cares about 'drag kings' or even really FtM trans people when it comes to who really needs to be listened to.

4 year old kids are meant to be self centred, it's part of normal development. Adult men, not so much.

I'm another one who doesn't understand why kids can't be taught that some families have two mums or two dads without that information being given out by drag queens?

Earlywalker · 16/01/2019 09:42

And as always, what goes on between consenting adults in private homes/clubs is up to them.

Think a few people may disagree with you there, or maybe that’s only when I say it Smile

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/01/2019 09:40

Drag is an ADULT thing. And as always, what goes on between consenting adults in private homes/clubs is up to them.

But getting children involved is totally unacceptable. Just the same as any other adult/sexual thing.

Beerflavourednipples · 16/01/2019 09:39

And ‘drag kids’? The phrase ‘vegan cat’ springs to mind.

Lactatia is actually a 'baby drag artist' according to his Insta bio.

Baby. Drag.

Datun · 16/01/2019 09:35

How long until the furries are introduced too? And I don't mean football club mascots.

David Challoner did fun runs raising money for charity, in his furry costume.

ChattyLion · 16/01/2019 09:27

Adults can dress up how they want and take photos of it in skanky cellars if that turns them on. Cross dressing and implied BDSM calendar making.. Go nuts.. in private. Don’t hang it on the wall in front of kids though- you’ll scare the living daylights them.

Linking these images with a wish to benefit a children’s charity, at this time when some in society seem to believe there is some kind of inner essence of maleness or femaleness that can mistakenly grow in the wrong human body- that is not being supportive of the interests of children at all.

Because that ^ belief is a categorically disingenuous, scientifically fake and dangerous idea in its implications for unnecessary and permanent interventions on children’s health and adding risks to their mental health, as well infringing on all women’s rights and LGB people’s rights.

Who wants to raise funds for that?

Ereshkigal · 16/01/2019 09:23

And ‘drag kids’? The phrase ‘vegan cat’ springs to mind.

Oh yes.

Ereshkigal · 16/01/2019 09:22

I wouldn't become less ignorant by reading one of your posts, Early

Earlywalker · 16/01/2019 09:18

Oh eresh choosing to remain ignorant isn’t usually your style at all, im shocked.

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/01/2019 09:17

The naked WI calendar was raising funds for the WOMEN’S institute.

It would not have been appropriate to have it linked to a children’s charity. It was posed by and aimed at adults. Nothing with even a hint of being explicit, sexual etc should be used in a manner linked to children’s charities.

I don’t think this is thoughtless, I think it’s provocation, and thinking they are unassailable.

The current use of drag is a wedge strategy. It’s all over TV in a ‘family friendly’ way. Then you have ‘drag kids’ like Lactatia etc. It’s pushing the boundary of what is Ok regarding the sexualisation of children. First exposed to a scene/activity, then as a ‘pet’ performer alongside main performers. It normalised what should be an adult activity. Drag is not for children. Drag clubs are not suitable for children. Any pub/club environment beyond a family lunch in a family pub in the day is not suitable for children. Most British pubs have an evening cut of for admission, even if they are staid ‘pint and crisps’ types. Because children should not be in that environment. Then add in a highly sexualised dress and performance (drag) and it just gets worse.

This isn't Ok. Drag queen story time isn’t ok.

And ‘drag kids’? The phrase ‘vegan cat’ springs to mind.

Ereshkigal · 16/01/2019 09:16

I'm not interested in your post. My comment stands.

Earlywalker · 16/01/2019 09:08

Eresh A pleasure as always.
Unfortunately not true at all, the actually subject of the thread I agreed with. My post was this:
No it is odd for sure. The calendar itself is pretty harmless and is typical of drag as drag is supposed to be ‘sexy’ but it’s odd of mermaids to be linking to it. I can imagine the drag queens just thought they wanted to do something to help, in a way that is typical ‘drag’ but think mermaids should’ve perhaps declined to be associated with the calendar or accepted a donation instead.
Linking to it on Twitter is a bit odd too, especially when they are aware of the concerns around them. It almost screams untouchable in the faces of doubt

I disagreed with someone saying ‘who would buy this’ As it’s very typical to cast off people different as outcasts and wanted to point out that different people have different attractions. I also disagree that drag queens (who are dressed appropriatly) reading stories to children, with subjects such as gay families, boys playing with girls toys etc is not neccesarily a bad thing.

Ereshkigal · 16/01/2019 09:02

even when I agree with you all,

That's why you've spent the whole thread telling people they're overreacting and dismissing their points.

Ereshkigal · 16/01/2019 09:00

Why should children be taught accept men in drag at all? . A lot of women think it's sexist.

And yes, this. But I think they really want children to accept obvious MTF trans people rather than men in drag.

Ereshkigal · 16/01/2019 08:59

So what is it that is so different about men in drag that this cohort needs to be a special case for children to learn to be nice and accepting to? Nothing as far as I’m concerned, exactly what is it that I am missing here?

Because they're linking it to transgenderism. Both because people think drag is fun and harmless, and I think also because many MTF trans "pass" as female about as well as the drag artists.

hellandhairnets · 15/01/2019 23:32

Some people seem to be OK with drag yet even they must see that drag is a celebration of male sexual culture. Why is this being made our children's business? Who benefits?

I don't have a problem with drag. I've seen plenty of drag acts in my time and managed to come away without being mortally offended. But yes 'even I' know - as most people do - that it's primarily gay male sexual culture and that is quite obviously for adults only. It is not for kids. It is wholly inappropriate as any other overtly sexual material would be. BDSM imagery is not for kids in any way.

As you say.

WI's nude calendar was not promoting sex or BDSM. It also wasn't aimed at children.
Panto dames - though stemming from same theatrical roots - are not commonly found performing filthy jokes or BDSM acts in gay clubs

Beauty pageants for little girls are pretty grotesque. Mainly for the same reasons - it's adultifying children in a way that is inappropriate. We all remember JonBenet Ramsay. Desmond and Lactatia (vom) are taking that one step further and it's more overtly sexual.

It's all about blurring the boundaries and as such is deeply worrying.

PencilsInSpace · 15/01/2019 23:01

Is the right-hand picture that child posing with that murderer under a poster saying Rohypnol ?

Yes.

The middle picture is from an article in Vice from May 2018 called Photos of the Fabulous Kids of RuPaul's Drag Convention.

The one on the left is from the home page of Drag Queen Story Hour.
