Excuse me - I honestly only stepped out for a moment. OK, admittedly, I have been sort of distracted for the last decade - y'know - children- take up a lot of time... no room of my own etc.... But ffs - when I left it was all going very nicely. If used to be that if you wanted to be a little bit radical, you hinted that female sportspersons should be paid like men.... and although there was obviously unequal pay, sexual harassment and you were subjugated by your reproductive role, no one - and I mean no one - was confused about what a woman was.

So literally I just looked away for a few seconds, and wtaf.

There just isn't enough gin in my day, and whilst I'm definitely too old, and too weak to start arguing with everyone again, I find there is just no alternative.

More to my horror, I've woken up to discover that TRAs have taken all the cool jargon. Being "woke" sounds so sorted... and "TW are women" is definitely more catchy -if slightly preposterous. As redress, I decided to reclaim "woke". I'm awake and cross and almost menopausal.

Think like a lot of women I'm just miserably unsure about what to do about it, other than feeling cross.... though I find that is always a useful first step. Thought I would come over and join MN, as I heard you were a bunch of evil harpies, intent on dreadful things Confused [skeptical] Please excuse me whilst I get used to the archaic emoji system - looking forward to chatting.

Welcome Woke

I'm definitely ready for full-blown fury membership - bloody perimenopause

SpareRibFem · 13/01/2019 22:14

Just a warning wokenotbloke there isn't freedom of speech here eaither. There's all sorts of rules about what you can and can't say about trans. There's a sticky worth reading but even following those rules you can come a cropper on the 'not in the spirit' rule [humm]
Rules aren't applied consistently, trans have some terms they aren't supposed to use as the seriously piss women off but even if you report the tra posts that clearly break the rules they are rarely deleted...

Weezol · 13/01/2019 22:12

I'm not even close to menopausal and I'm happy to part of a snake knitting monstrous regiment with battalion HQ being the second building on the left after you've gone through the radicalisation portal. Hot and cold running water and colour television standard in all rooms, hotbeds available at a small additional fee. (please ask when booking to get the most competitive tariffs).

AngryAttackKittens · 13/01/2019 22:09

What's the dragon looking thing mean?

SeaWitchly · 13/01/2019 22:09

Welcome Woke

Does anyone know if there are any GC groups in Australia? I follow A Woman's Place and FPFW but obviously live a little far away to attend their meet-ups...

I am also a pre-menopausal woman in her mid-40s and love the thought of our collective name being 'Furies'!!!

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2019 22:05

Welcome. How many sites have rational discussions, and their own emoticons for Dragon and Gin? (And Cake, Brew but try to avoid the Biscuit)

MrsFogi · 13/01/2019 21:54

OP welcome to peaktrans - try not to let it drive you bonkers! Admittedly some very eloquent and bright women have been warning about this for a long time but unfortunately lots of us didn't notice/listen whilst looking the other way (normally at the dcs) for a few years.
Anyway, roll up your sleeves and see what you can do to redress the imbalance. Speak to people in RL, check out A Woman's Place and Fair Play for Women, become a #StickerWoman (google it or search on this site) - order a load of leaflets from FPFW and use those or make you own, contact your MP, see if there are any gender critical groups near you that you can join, use your economic power, check your local government and other websites and email whenever they conflate gender and sex (particularly where they are talking about protected characteristics (sex is protected - gender is not, gender-realignment is protected self-id/trans is not)....there is a great thread that pulls loads of really fantastic threads into one place with bold headings (hopefully someone has tagged it and can post the link).

WokeNotBloke · 13/01/2019 21:37

Speaking of fury, today I had to google was a furry was. I was quite surprised.

Thanks for the welcome ladies - yes Badger I've read the MN chat forum - I spent hours reading... read all the newspaper reports, read Twitter, watched youtube videos, searched for academic papers... because I kept thinking... I must be missing something. This is insane... I must be missing something....

Had to stop to keep picking up my jaw.... eventually I concluded that the entire world had indeed fallen through the rabbit hole.

As far as I can see, sex continues to be a protected characteristic under the Equality Act, and vaguely thinking you might be female is not. Yet, suddenly it is a hate crime to advocate for single sex spaces. I just don't get it. It's insane. More gin anyone?

"Radicalization portal" was a good one too.

StarsAndWater · 13/01/2019 21:35

I thought we were a 'toxic hotbed'.

And welcome, Woke.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/01/2019 21:30

welcome home Woke

We are the place where wtaf finds its voice

DaedricLordSlayer · 13/01/2019 21:26

A fury love it, and always love a bit of mythology. Smile

Katvonbatshitmermaid · 13/01/2019 21:16

You can use normal emojis
But there's something special about the ancient ones. They kind of say mumsnet to me.

Welcome to the coven! It's a haven of sanity Gin

BlackForestCake · 13/01/2019 21:06

A “monstrous regiment” isn’t it?

Needmoresleep · 13/01/2019 20:48

Surely a 'flush' of menopausal women?

userschmoozer · 13/01/2019 20:44

Ooo yes Weezol!

''The Furies of Greek mythology are monstrous women who lived in the underworld and avenged murders, particularly matricides. In Greek they are called Erinyes, a name thought to have come from the Arcadian word meaning, “to be angry,” hence the English name “Furies.”

The creatures first appear in Homer’s Iliad as punishers of oath-breakers and as embodied curses of parents wronged by their children...in Homer they are more generally enforcers of the proper order of things.''

That's also good Angry.

I spend a lot of time alternating between ConfusedHmmand Angry but tbh it's usually Angry

Badgerthebodger · 13/01/2019 20:38

Welcome! Have you had a look round? There’s a few threads which have a lot of good information and we often recommend them for new people, so if you can put your feet up with a drink and have a read it might be interesting!

ILuvBirdsEye · 13/01/2019 20:37

🥂 Welcome aboard...

My natural state is wtaf with my jaw on the floor - for over about 20 months now. Mostly lurking but emailing, petitioning and following all the threads.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/01/2019 20:35

Sometimes it's often A Bafflement.

terryleather · 13/01/2019 20:35

I like that Weezol!

boatyardblues · 13/01/2019 20:34

Perfect Weezol.

Illyria47 · 13/01/2019 20:33

What about the well past post menopausal, 70 something, past Women's Libber, thought the gender stereotyping issue was done and dusted woman. Definitely woke to the idiocy now rampant around the trans issue.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/01/2019 20:33

Welcome, NotBloke! You'll find that whenever you think you've hit the bottom of the rabbit hole it tends to get deeper.
