How can it be discrimination on the grounds of gender when 'gender' isn't a protected characteristic? Presumably there's an appeals process and the matter will get to be considered by a tribunal with an understanding of the EA?

Coyoacan · 12/01/2019 22:00

How can it be against the Equality Act?

But this will never happen!

AncientLights · 12/01/2019 12:06

It won't make any difference. If they kept it women only, men would just self ID as women and take it from us that way.

We're all doomed.

I got a women’s scholarship to college, I had to hide it as the guys in our class would have been so huffy and resentful about it. It was 30k and my class was something like 17% women. The woman who endowed the scholarships would be furious if the bequest was changed, it was a famously male environment.

Surely it can't be a breach of the equality act; if certain groups are under-represented, in this case they clearly are hence the reason for women only fellowship.

Sky are currently running a recruitment campaign for women only to train as Sky engineer's, following the logic of the advice given to Oxford, Sky should scrap this campaign!!

Well women only shortlists are now mixed sex. I think we can predict the end of anything "women only".

The day when every department is 50% biological male and 50% biological female, and all chairs (or whatever they call their senior positions) are split equally, then that's the day we don't need these awards.

Grrrrrrr

Idiots
