Sexual abuse pure and simple. Just awful, I hate to think what he will think when he grows up.

NotANotMan · 12/01/2019 18:06

Nobody should call it 'child porn' - that normalises and sanitises what it is which is images of child sexual abuse.

FamilyOfAliens · 12/01/2019 18:05

Child porn does exist.. but I guess you are telling me that non pedophiles should call it images of child sexual abuse?

The second bit is right. Calling it “child porn” is not recognising that it shows abuse happening. I’ve written to the BBC about their use of the term and they’ve agreed to use the correct term “images of child sexual abuse” instead to avoid any ambiguity.

KataraJean · 12/01/2019 18:05

Child pornography is the abuse of children as children cannot consent to the acts taking place. They are below the age of consent.

I have not clicked on any links in this thread (or elsewhere) but I think the point is twofold-

Phrases like child pornography normalise child abuse as pornography between adults is normalised and accepted in society (whatever one’s personal views on it)

Images of children naked, if not immediately pornographic, in a sexual or erotic context normalise the abuse of children.

Bezalelle · 12/01/2019 18:03

That's the generally agreed upon term, GCSoc.

GCSocScientist · 12/01/2019 17:57

QuilliamCakespeare · 12/01/2019 17:56

How is this allowed to continue? Does Canada (assuming PP is correct and that's where this child lives) have no child protection legislation at all?

Beerflavourednipples · 12/01/2019 17:55

Holy shit that calendar! I know Mermaids themselves didn't make this, but what the fuck? Raising money for kids by selling calendars with these sorts of images? In what other arena would that be in any way acceptable?

On Lactatia's page their bio says they are a 'baby drag queen'

Argh, this is making me so cross! And what's worse is the suggesting that anyone who has a problem with this 'a right wing bigot'. Just fuck off with that noise.

NotANotMan · 12/01/2019 17:45

Perhaps you work in a field related to child protection and therefore know that the image would not qualify as child porn?

The point is, that child 'porn' doesn't exist. Using phrases like 'child porn' is unacceptable.

SunsetBeetch · 12/01/2019 17:37

Not sure I entirely agree with the tweeter's conclusion, but certainly some of the images are inappropriate for a children's charity calendar (nb the drag queens did it off their own bat, it's not an official Mermaids calendar).

SunsetBeetch · 12/01/2019 17:35

Sort of related, I think. Well it's linking drag to children (this time Mermaids charity):

"Calendar for Mermaids (charity for trans kids) full of kink and BDSM images. Normalising the sexualisation of kids (as we see already with drag ‘child stars’) and once again we see how pedophilia is one outcome of this men’s sexual movement"

GCSocScientist · 12/01/2019 17:33

Hi science, I fully agree words matter, But for once I did chose my words carefully here.

The image of Desmond in suggestive clothing, leaning towards a naked man in drag is clearly designed to titilate/sexually arose. That coarse sexual innuendo is a key component of drag culture, which is fine as long as children are not involved.

Perhaps you work in a field related to child protection and therefore know that the image would not qualify as child porn?

To me, however, it fits the definition as it’s an image designed to illicit sexual arosal.

Linda Lovelace was a porn star who didn’t consent, I am suggesting that Desmond is too (his lack of consent being driven by his age and subordinate position to his parents who are orchestrating this).

It was zapped reasonably quickly and user banned

Was that the thread posted under ethical dilemmas with an odd link? What was that all about?

misscockerspaniel · 12/01/2019 16:28

Is there a way of reporting this to Canadian authorities from the UK?
The best way would be to report it to the police, in the UK, and ask them to deal with it. They should then forward it to the relevant people in Canada. This could be done online.

Ereshkigal · 12/01/2019 16:12

Well done for posting a link to this thread on the AIBU thread about Twitter, Datun. Hope it makes the usual FWR bashers who turned up on the thread have a little think.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/01/2019 15:47

Poor boy Sad. What is this world coming to???

Thingybob · 12/01/2019 15:45

These young 'drag artists' all appear to have 'fallen in love with the art form' after watching Rupauls Drag Race. It's a reality TV game show that's been running in the states for a few years and is available in the UK via Netflix. It's purpose appears to be to bring queerness into mainstream media under the guise of entertainment. For anyone that's never watched it then this will give you a taste

There is also a convention for real enthusiasts with under tens admitted free when accompanied by an adult. A few kids enjoying themselves at the 2018 convention, many more can be seen on Twitter

As the TV production has been shown on Netflix for a few years, we also have children in the UK who enjoy drag. Violet Vixen (AKA Leo Noakes) is one of our better known ones and has been in the media several times. They were award the Young Spirit of Corby for being 'truly inspiring' at an award ceremony hosted by Corby Borough Council in 2018

I'm sure we will soon be seeing many more similarly inspiring young children as the good old Beeb will be bringing a UK version of Rupauls Drag Race to our screens later this year.

What's not to like?

One appeared on AIBU this morning.

I'm not surprised. SIGH. I hope we won't see protective applications of guidelines. I will lose the plot.

RedemptiveCrocodile · 12/01/2019 13:58

The trouble with grooming is that the child isn't aware of being groomed. I don't hold much hope that these boys will wake up one day and recognise the a use they've suffered, when they have no other frame of reference. Much like asking the fish "how's the water" and the fish saying "what water?"
These boys will slide right into the adult world they've been raised up to see as normal and acceptable.

How are we going to stop this from happening again? If there are two famous boys now, how many will there be in another decade?

Melanippe · 12/01/2019 13:49

Of course a 10 yr old shouldn't be doing drag! As adults and parents we're supposed to protect and nurture children, not cover them in make up, expose them to all sorts and earn money off their exposure. I'm absolutely sure those two lads ARE loving the spotlight right now, but so did Cory Haim, Corey Feldman and River Phoenix.

Ereshkigal · 12/01/2019 13:46

How stupid are Pink News?

Pretty stupid. Their anything goes for LGBT ideology is a hill they will die on.

Ereshkigal · 12/01/2019 13:44

Ah, ok. Thanks, AAK. I don't know if that's better or worse than an invasion of MAP types.

It's rather worrying that anyone would think they would be flames to for objecting to a drag queen called after breastfeeding, who was a 10-year-old boy.
