If you haven't heard of Alok, they are a friend of Travis Alabanza They are also a performance artist and are GNC. A friend of mine posted something Alok had posted on IG in solidarity with their suffering, basically, and it interested me.

The post was a picture of themselves in a pink bikini. They said the photo had been empowering to take and that it hurt that people were using it to ridicule them. They've been sent threats.

Now whilst no one deserves to be threatened and certainly not for being gender non-conforming, I'm interested that Alok has had such huge outpouring of support and attention. It fascinates me in the first place that the most empowering thing Alok could think to do was wear a feminine sexy outfit. It just shows how much people have absorbed the current message that the female body is (supposedly) one's greatest currency and the ultimate thing one can display to get status Hmm. Also is speaks volumes that to Alok, they ridicule they have experienced for what is, let's face it, a fairly inflammatory photo, is a severe form of oppression, with the trans ideology generally supporting the notion that society must be dismantled and changed to protect victims of it. Never mind things like child rape or fgm or domestic abuse, which really gets very little attention online. Never mind, too that Alok is an extremely hairy and very male looking individual who doesn't in all honesty look good in the clothing they've chosen to wear however kind one is trying to be (more than that I actually think they look pretty intimidating. From where I'm sitting anyway)

I just thought his post was worth a share. It does raise issues about how people perceive women in society and what is valued about us.

"in the past decade we have witnessed hundreds of anti-trans policies introduced to criminalize & disappear gender non-conforming people advanced in the name of feminism."

No, that is not true.

Yeah I'm afraid Alock is the one who said little girls were kinky and deviant and their parents had no idea.

Ugh.

This is an IG essay from Alok, should you care to read it. Feminism should start with trans women, apparently.

as the year is coming to an end i am re-sharing 2018 highlights. this piece on trans exclusionary feminism is essential & i really hope folks take it to heart: with the interruption of pride marches across the world this year (london, auckland, baltimore, the list goes on...) by trans exclusionary feminists it is time more than ever to establish that feminism without respecting trans women & nonbinary people is just patriarchy.

reducing women to their genitalia & reproductive capacity is just misogyny. fortifying gender and sex binaries is not radical nor progressive, it is racist and conservative.

i believe feminism should be about liberating all people from the constrictive & coercive gender & sex binaries & norms that were imposed on us. i believe that feminism starts with intersex people of color, nonbinary people of color, trans people of color and all of the people they demonize & exclude. in their efforts to resist male supremacy, these “feminists” have not accounted for how they are actually partnering with cis men to denigrate women (who happen to be trans). this is not unprecedented or confusing, this is how the gender binary works. in the past decade we have witnessed hundreds of anti-trans policies introduced to criminalize & disappear gender non-conforming people advanced in the name of feminism. now is the time for all of us to publicly denounce trans, intersex, & nonbinary exclusion. now is time for us to resist the manipulation of feminism in the service of anti-gender non-conforming discrimination.

i have been harassed, ridiculed, & maligned by “feminists” for having the audacity to exist, let alone speak out against the pervasive violence me & my siblings endure. i have suffered in silence for too long! i need YOUR help — all of you! — in resisting the gender & sex binary and creating a world that affirms nonbinary people, trans women, and intersex people. i need your help in ushering not just a new era of trans inclusion, but one of trans liberation
