West Yorkshire Police 'delighted' after trans hate crime reports triple in 24 months

www.capitalfm.com/yorkshire/radio/news/local/hate-crime-report-rise-in-leeds-is-a-good-thing/

"Police say the LGBT community in Leeds is reporting more hate crimes than ever and that's a good thing

Reports from the transgender community in particular have more than tripled here since 2016.

West Yorkshire Police Hate Crime Co-ordinator, Kev Brighton said: 'People are getting confident and we're dealing with it."

(he had to be called 'Brighton', didn't he.)

It goes on with the inevitable BS

"Rachel Smith started her transition in 2012.

People have lost their lives because of the incessant hate that they receive on a daily basis." (this literally never happens.)

"Our incredibly stupid plan that everyone except Susie told us was stupid is going great! No, you can't ask us about the managed zone in Leeds, that's not nice."

When DVAWG figures are being manipulated by only counting the first few reports, I really can't get behind the glee that a Police force is showing about this.

OlennasWimple · 08/01/2019 19:23

If three people report the same incident to the police, is this logged as three separate reports? I think it is... So in fact "tripling of reports" is a fairly meaningless statistic, apart from regarding public awareness that it is possible to report such concerns (which is not itself a bad thing, of course)

MargueritaPink · 08/01/2019 19:17

Ranking overall of police forces. Interesting that Suffolk is number 1.

Suffolk is 3rd in crimes detected. Presumably the good work done and standards set by Alan Caton is continuing

Fighting oppression, with oppression.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Women talking on a message board is oppression but using the police force most renowned for misogyny in the entire country as a personal ideological enforcement team is no problemo?

Get a grip.

Melanippe · 08/01/2019 18:31

No, not2daysanta "spewing bile" if that's what you insist on calling it, about the fucking ridiculous way West Yorkshire police treat women, which is of a piece with how they have consistently treated women.

Is that ok with you? Do tell us what else you believe women (the cunty kind) should be concerned with, just so we know we're going about feministing correctly.

MoltenLasagne · 08/01/2019 13:34

I recently had to report a crime in West Yorkshire via 101. Before I could get through to menu to select the right option I was treated a pre-recorded message telling me that they are an LGBT friendly force and that I could talk to specific officers if I felt I needed to raise a hate crime.

I'm sure it's very reassuring for people to know that there is a supportive person they can talk to about such issues if needed, but the person who I spoke to about the crime against me didn't seem to give a crap. Got NFA'd within 2 days.

Sorry where is the ‘spewing bile’ exactly? I must have missed that.

nauticant · 08/01/2019 12:41

Being scolded as "transphobes" stopped working a long time ago not2daysanta. You'll need a much more effective slur if you want to shut us up.

hackmum · 08/01/2019 12:36

There was only one actual charge of transgender hate crime in West Yorkshire in 2017.

Interesting. So all the other reports are actually a waste of police time? Because they don't lead to a charge, let alone a conviction?

No wonder West Yorkshire Police don't have time to investigate burglaries and violent assaults if they're too busy chasing up reports of non-existent hate crimes.

Popchyk · 08/01/2019 12:19

There was only one actual charge of transgender hate crime in West Yorkshire in 2017.

And that seems likely to be part of a crime (like violence against the person for example). They don't say whether this person was convicted or not.

I wonder if WYP would ever reflect that a tripling of hate incidents might reflect rather poorly on them as a police force, rather than seeing it as a source of delight.

I can't imagine Cressida Dick of the Metropolitan Police crowing about how pleased she was that knife crime offences in London had tripled for example.

We live in interesting times.

QuietContraryMary · 08/01/2019 12:04

not hate crimes 'hate incidents'. AKA 'not crimes at all'.

And yes, oppression of women trying to speak. It's central to feminism.

Oh, that makes sense then. This forum is not for general Womens_Rights; it's for Women's Rights to speak disparagingly about trans people and LGBT hate crimes.

Fighting oppression, with oppression.

Got it.

QuietContraryMary · 08/01/2019 11:59

"Why do you all care so much? It's difficult to view threads like this as anything other than transphobia. "

?

The reference is to WYP's persecution of people for tweeting, etc., which forum posters will be well aware of.

It has literally nothing to do with transphobia.

OP posts:
CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 08/01/2019 11:56

Shouldn't they be horrified at the increase?

not2daysanta · 08/01/2019 11:55

Why do you all care so much? It's difficult to view threads like this as anything other than transphobia.

What other goal could you possibly have? Sitting here spewing bile about every single mention of 'trans' in the media.

Could you not focus efforts on something positive? Rather than trying to marginalise another oppressed group.

If you switch "trans" with "migrants", you get a solid idea of how hateful you all sound in this thread.

QuietContraryMary · 08/01/2019 11:37

I'm sure Haddock & Susie are responsible for a goodly proportion.

Popchyk · 08/01/2019 11:02

Two posters on here have been interviewed by West Yorkshire police.

At least.

And didn't Susie Green appeal the CPS's decision not to charge Posie? I wonder if anything ever came of that.

I wonder how many of those were from Susie Green of Mermaids. Which is in West Yorkshire.

I know she's talked of contacting police on many occasions.

Also Mermaids contacted police when a teacher "misgendered" a pupil.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5429219/Charity-calls-police-teacher-misgenders-pupil.html

theOtherPamAyres · 08/01/2019 10:26

The Parliamentary Committee on Transgender Equality recommended that the police:
crack down on transphobia and
introduce a new hate crime where there is hostility towards someone's gender identity.

In other words self I/D. In other words, the inclusion of blue-haired non-binary people and straight blokes with beards calling thmselves misgendered ladies. No wonder the number of reports have increased. (Notice that there are no actual numbers or analysis of the types of incidents).

The police need to be instructed to roll back self i/d and take another look at the definition of transphobia if they are to retain public confidence.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/01/2019 10:19

Without numbers thats pretty meaningless eg from 1 report to 4 is "more than tripled" and probably all reported by one person

Also,.since when has the number of reports made said anything useful at all about a police force. Surely we need stats on the outcome of reports?
