Godfrey's new column on gender. I don't like Louis CK, but I think that Godfrey's reaction is pretty funny. His previous two columns are worth checking out too.

I must say though, Titania McGrath is easily just as good as Godfrey!

I love The Guardian being hoist by its own petard.

hackmum · 08/01/2019 07:50

I didn't realise that Guardian article was a spoof! I remember reading it at the time and thinking it was a bit much. I'm surprised the Guardian haven't removed it.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 08/01/2019 07:04

Oh - and I love the blurb about Titania's book - it perfectly describes the sjw I have the misfortune to know.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 08/01/2019 07:03

That Ade "Scrubs" Haddock Twitter account is a hoot.

"That McKinnon one makes me look rational. Mince pie anyone?"

and

"A troupe of people who identify as dancers frollick around a Maypole. Today is a 'Pride' event and all the village girls are wearing ribbons in their beards."

Are comedy gold.

Njordsgrrrl · 08/01/2019 02:54

I'm absolutely addicted to Titania. Just looking at her earnest little face makes me laugh 😂

frazzled1 · 07/01/2019 23:52

Ade "Scrubs" Haddock is fab on twitter.

Ma Scrubs asking me if I’d prefer to have a capon for Christmas rather than turkey and then snorting loudly into her mug of Advocaat.

Apparently Titania McGrath has a book out on March 7th Grin

In Woke, Titania McGrath demonstrates how everybody can play their part in the pursuit of social justice. As a millennial icon on the forefront of online activism (i.e. having written numerous angry tweets), Titania is uniquely placed to guide her readers through the often bewildering array of terminology and concepts that constitute twenty-first-century 'wokeness'. These new ideas often leave the general public bemused, particularly if they don't read the Guardian.

Being woke is actually much easier than people think. As Titania demonstrates, anyone can be an activist. By simply adding a rainbow flag to your Facebook profile, or calling out an elderly person who doesn't understand what 'non-binary' means, you can change the world for the better. Indeed, social media has now made it possible to show how virtuous you are without having to do anything at all.

Timely and indispensable, Titania's step-by-step guide will help you to become the woke person you need to be in an increasingly progressive world. In a non-patronising manner, Titania will explain why you are wrong about everything and how to become more like her.

The other, my suggestion is to scroll past stupidity rather than to engage with it.

The big advantage of doing so means that the thread is less likely to derail.

@dwork

Whoooooosh! (The sound of something flying right over over your head).

nauticant · 07/01/2019 09:53

retweeting racist memes

Yes, I'd also be interested in this.

AnyOldPrion · 07/01/2019 09:51

it’s not rocket surgery.

Nor is it brain science.

Just sayin’

Terfing · 07/01/2019 01:47

@dworky

I didn't know that Sad

Can you point out/ re-post what he said that was racist? I didn't see it.

From the article, I loved "(‘I’ve been secretly putting hormone blockers in my nephew’s Dairylea Lunchables for the past few months. She’ll thank me for it in a few years, you mark my words.’)"

Yeah, who cares about children being mocked for their race? She's funny so it doesn't matter, right?

Wauden · 06/01/2019 18:45

Thanks for the laughs Grin

Freespeecher · 06/01/2019 18:36

Remember when Godfrey managed to get a spoof article published in the Guardian? It was retweeted approvingly by Glenn Greenwald and Mo Ansar before he 'fessed up.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/nov/28/alt-right-online-poison-racist-bigot-sam-harris-milo-yiannopoulos-islamophobia

(Also, I seem to remember that it was originally a guy behind Godfrey- Lisa Graves took over for the reboot - I think - and now does Titania McGrath. Humour is always the kryptonite to the brittle, joyless, enforced belief systems that we're all trying to counter at the mo).

AngryAttackKittens · 06/01/2019 17:28

The Lunchables bit was genius for sure - it should be too much to be taken seriously, but then you think of some of the absurd things that have turned out to be true...

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 06/01/2019 17:23

Godfrey started funny but the woman behind the account gradually revealed her nasty self, retweeting racist memes & encouraging pile-ons.

When dealing with pompous fuckwits humour is the most effective weapon.

That makes me love him even more!

Terfing · 06/01/2019 13:27

Fun fact about Godfrey: he's actually played by a woman!

Godfrey was brilliant on Twitter, I'm not on there so much now but did notice he'd gone - didn't realise it was a ban though.

hackmum · 06/01/2019 13:14

Didn't realise that Godfrey had previously been banned from Twitter. Satire is no laughing matter, clearly.
