Dr H says most ‘trans’ kids don’t need intervention until quite late on if at all???

Some interesting tweets from Dr Adrain (incidentally claiming, in the present tense, to work in family practice Confused)

Apparently not following the mermaids party line at all.

Only one of ‘a wide range of kids’ he’s seen has needed to be referred for specialist assessment Hmm

It’s in response to this thread (though he’s quote-tweeted instead of replying)

Is the good doctor trying to moderate the tone of his SM posts by any chance? I hear he may be under some scrutiny.

I’m sure a quick scan of The frequency of his recent twitter contributions may shed some light on his current employment status.

Mean while over the several decades of family practice I identify as having, gender nonconforming behaviour is not a medical concern. Any parents who may have worries about their children liking toys and clothes associated with the gendered expectations of the opposite sex should be strongly encouraged to get a grip and stop being such sexist bigots, in my professional opinion.

Needmoresleep · 06/01/2019 12:41

Exactly R0

Just as cultural ideas of gender are not stable over time, neither does the gender non-conforming behaviour of children appear to be stable over time either." (continues)

200 years ago pink used to be a fashionable men's colour. From Wikipedia Westminster School "The school's colour is pink; Westminster rowers raced Eton College for the right to wear pink." Back in 1837.

Harrop's comments are clearly designed to address public concerns about areas where the handling of "trans kids" is going badly wrong, but the thing is, why should anyone believe him, given his history?

I'm also curious when he began identifying as a GP working at a normal practice.

MadamBatty · 06/01/2019 12:19

Macareaux I suspect trans flox are the Glitterari

R0wantrees · 06/01/2019 12:14

There's been quite a few comments recently by TRAs which seem to be trying to counter comments about how gender non-conforming children are ending up on the transgender medical pathway.

A shift in narrative/focus seems to happen quite frequently with TRAs.

Miranda Yardley 2017 article: 'Common Threads And Narratives of Transgender Children And What This Means For Our Lesbian And Gay Populations'
(extracts)
"I have used public sources to examine the commonalities between the lives and experiences of children who claim a “transgender” identity. Historically, stories that made the media consisted mainly of adult males who announced to the world their new identity, however recently we are seeing more evidence of these young children and adolescents as well as females “transitioning” to male.

The commonality of these narratives is striking, within these seven stories mention is made of the following: a preference for pink (7/7), hair (6/7), princesses and dresses (5/7), ‘toys for girls’ (5/7).

Thus, the association of pink with girls is itself cultural; devoid of culture, pink has no meaning with respect to the preferences of children, or even adults, of either sex. Notably in the stories for young transgender females, many include a rejection of pink, dresses and princesses, the diametric opposite of the stories from transgender males. The most striking similarity in the stories from young transgender females is sexual orientation; in all five of these stories, the subject had previously identified themselves as being a gay woman, a lesbian. This is a recurring topic within feminist politics, it is perceived that the transitioning of young girls boys is, in the words of these feminists, a form of gay eugenics, this is taken from ‘How do you know if you’re “transphobic”, and what is to be done about it?‘ by R Gerlich:

Is it such a leap to suggest that for girls who are masculine (or boys who are feminine), such personality traits are being interpreted as an indicator that the child’s “gender identity” is not correspondent with the child’s sex? Is this not tantamount to suggesting that personality determines sex?

Just as cultural ideas of gender are not stable over time, neither does the gender non-conforming behaviour of children appear to be stable over time either." (continues)

I have to admit to being confused.

We mention anything and immediately affirming the identity is a must and we all want them to die in a fire or something ( which obviously we don't. We wish happy healthy lives free of discrimination and for them to have access to supoort etc) but he gets to say there should be gate keeping and riglurous assessments to ensure no rash decisions are made and it's all some great idea Hmm

Why do they get to decide who's lying etc whilst telling us that we are denying identities if we don't comply..

AngryAttackKittens · 06/01/2019 11:13

Pants on fire, Adrian.

BettyDuMonde · 06/01/2019 10:23

if they’re over 16, you can do the referral. They probably might be seen once maybe by the Tavistock ‘cos they’ll go on to adult services, but whatever time that they’re waiting for the Tavistock, that will be cut off adult services ‘cos they’ll go straight over, so it’s always worth doing the referral

Surely Mermaids are talking tosh here? My son has been with CAMHS (he’s ASD and ADHD) since he was 11 has recently turned 18 and subsequently transferred to adult services. He has to join the same waiting list as everyone else and we have been warned that the wait is SEVEN YEARS. Child services have written to our GP to ask them to provide bridging care regarding meds.

Why would GIDS operate any differently?

Macareaux · 05/01/2019 23:58

Transfolx are folx

Needmoresleep · 05/01/2019 23:40

Toning down his approach with half an eye on some sort of on-line gender GP type gig?

GerryblewuptheER · 05/01/2019 23:25

So he's not a fan of the Stone wall definition of trans then?

SirVixofVixHall · 05/01/2019 23:19

Folks is the givaway word in all that tosh. It is used really oddly too, it sits strangely in the sentence.
Essentially he is saying “nothing to see here folks, move along now “.

Thingybob · 05/01/2019 23:11

I think his point is that all those adults, who say they were GNC children and therefore likely to be placed on hormone blockers if they were born today, were never trans just Tomboys or effeminate males and the two things are quite distinct. It seems to be such an obvious distinction that a newly qualified, male GP can see it immediately and knows when it is, and when it is not, necessary to make a referal to the GI services. Sadly us dumb women, who may have spent 4 or 5 decades working with children, can't see that obvious distinction. Dr H. (if you are reading) I'm one such woman and I've read those nonsense explanations and the only thing that is obvious to me is that the authors know bugger all about kids.

GerryblewuptheER · 05/01/2019 22:34

So watching and waiting and careful observation is ok then after all?

They will turn in him for that.

Although gender non conformity is a medical issue? Seriously?

Thank fuck I wasnt born now.

vaginafetishist · 05/01/2019 22:34

Let's hope it isn't.

VickyEadie · 05/01/2019 22:33

I don't believe him.

nauticant · 05/01/2019 22:29

Children being carted off to the Dr because they don't conform to whatever their parents think they should be conforming to.

You're assuming that this statement of his is truthful.

Iused2BanOptimist · 05/01/2019 22:14

I may have had a glass too many Wine
scrolling through twitter and up pops Dr H even though I don't follow him (I'm not mad ffs). I honestly can't make head it tail of it all, it's just such a load of crap. Children being carted off to the Dr because they don't
conform to whatever their parents think they should be conforming to.
Now they are having months or years of assessment - it sounds like a childhood prison sentence frankly.
"Children and young folks who present with gender identity issues will undergo months or years of assessment to reach that definitive diagnosis, and this would certainly be the case before undergoing any medical interventions or receiving hormonal treatment or surgery."

But then how can anyone make a diagnosis because it's all up to the individual.

"I believe that it is up to specific individuals to characterise and define their own gender identity, in their own terms and in their own time.

It isn’t anyone’s place to tell another person whether they are trans or not."

I'm just calling bollocks to the whole thing.

Honestly people just need to stop navel gazing , get out and find a hobby or something. Angry

AnyFucker · 05/01/2019 21:59

He has seen a "wide range" of non gender conforming children in general practice ? Enough to come to his statistically nuanced conclusions ?

Bollocks, he has

Iused2BanOptimist · 05/01/2019 21:57

Melroses HmmGrin

Melroses · 05/01/2019 21:51

He has managed to pack a lot of experience into a short time as a family doctor to see such a wide range of kids so soon - wasn't he an A&E doctor a few months ago when he appeared on Victoria Derbyshire? It is hard to keep up with such a dynamic career.

ScipioAfricanus · 05/01/2019 21:43

Melroses, I can’t think of any other time he has behaved with anything except consummate professionalism.

Melroses · 05/01/2019 21:38

If he is talking about sending only one child to GIDs, is he getting a bit close to getting specific, rather than talking in general terms re confidentiality?

NotBadConsidering · 05/01/2019 21:36

Always a challenge to find logic in the ramblings of someone deeply entrenched in an illogical ideology.
