Apologies if this has already been posted. Did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Michael Conroy attended and recorded a mermaids training session. It's hair raising listening.

I believe that someone is working on transcribing this, which will hopefully make it easier to analyse. But wanted to post it to make sure it hadn't been missed.

In the 'Mermaids response to Times article' thread it says the recording was at a Mermaids session at Newman University in Birmingham.

If a child is talking to Mermaids online about their body and their feelings, they are probably talking about this stuff with other adults even less trustworthy than Mermaids. If they are keeping secrets with adults at school and no one is informing the parents, or if the parents really are a risk to the child, taking it up the safeguarding chain then yes it is a bloody safeguarding issue. It's a safeguarding loophole.

Exactly. Even when they do mention safeguarding, they get the whole thing back to front. It's so dangerous. They are so obstinate and mulish and evangelical, they are putting the very children they're trying to advocate for at more risk than all other children.

And nobody with power or influence seems to give a shit.

Dragon3 · 23/12/2018 10:10

Good idea to send the transcripts to our MPs. I will do the same.

I'm very, very glad that this is getting some sunlight at last. And horrified that teachers are being instructed in this way.

It is appropriate that Mermaids' training of public sector workers is open for scrutiny.

ScipioAfricanus · 23/12/2018 10:09

Thanks R0wan. That’s what I thought but I wanted to be sure of my facts.

Orchid I read the transcripts and I got that impression but as I said, wanted to be absolutely sure. I don’t think my interlocutor in Twitter has.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/12/2018 10:04

It was audio, not video and it was a training session for professionals which is patently obvious if you listen to the audio/read the transcripts

R0wantrees · 23/12/2018 10:04

ScipioAfricanus
See Michael Conroy
It was a training session for teachers

Could someone confirm that this was an audio recording not a video? Also, who was the audience? I’m wasting my time on Twitter where TRAs are saying it could violate privacy as it was a support group for trans kids. I thought it was a training session. Would like to know even though I won’t convince them, as useful for lurkers to know.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/12/2018 09:21

In another part, she says that they have to be careful because they have problems with a lot of people who contact them not being who they say they are. And yet appears to have a complete inability to join those two things together

Candidpeel · 23/12/2018 09:11

" 40% of the young people who we support online cannot be ‘out’ at home...for various reasons, so, you know, and sometimes school may be the only place they can be themselves. So something you may be
aware is that school may be supporting the child and they may be known as a pronoun in school and the parents don’t know about it because they can’t be ‘out’ at home. If the
parents find out, it can become a safeguarding issue, so you need to be very careful about when you are talking about your cases. " AngryAngryAngry

Mermaids have introduced this keep secrets, don't tell the parents loophole to Scouts who they advise.

Im sending a copy of this to my MP and asking why it is considered acceptable to indoctrinate our police. our schools, our children, our business leaders with this shit. And yes, what are the government going to do to deprogramme those already trained. If I don’t get an answer I’ll print it off and turn up to the constituency offices.
Thanks again to the transcribers and to Michael 👍🏽

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2018 08:44

Will the government be starting a 'deprogramming' initiative to deal with those brainwashed by this cult?

teawamutu · 23/12/2018 08:33

I imagine an awful lot of them thought 'what a load of shite' but didn't say so because they'd be labelled transphobic.

Shows what an effective technique it is; frame any questioning at all as hate and literal violence, and pretty soon you stop getting questions.

Also Trainer Hufflepuff clearly wasn't expecting intelligent engagement with the material, was she? Just acquiescence.

Yeahnahyeah · 23/12/2018 04:24

How many of these presentations have been done? Why was there not an outcry the very first time this crap was spouted? Had our educated, intelligent school teachers etc already drunk the Kool aid?

NotBadConsidering · 23/12/2018 01:55

Just started reading the transcript. Why am I not surprised the trainer identifies as a Hufflepuff. There’s no way Ravenclaw would have her Hmm

OrchidInTheSun · 23/12/2018 01:12

Links still work for me, Calm

moofolk · 23/12/2018 01:12

What a pile of jellybabies.

Thanks for transcribing, even though I almost wish I hadn't read it!

Context from Mermaids website:

'Mermaids general training provision'

Mermaids has trained professionals in the NHS, Police Service, Social Services, Schools, CAHMS and the workplace. We tailor all of our training to the specific needs and timeframes of each enquiry, if you are interested please get in touch by emailing us on [email protected] or complete the contact form with a summary of numbers, location and a general overview of your current situation. For example, if you are a school supporting a child to transition, or an NHS trust, wishing to skill up key staff members with information and understanding of gender variance in children and young people.

We deliver training into companies to support HR departments and management to be supportive and understanding of the needs of trans employees and how to ensure that your policies and procedures are inclusive and supporting of diversity. Unconscious bias and discrimination is still prevalent, we can help you tackle this.

Department of Education HBT Project

Mermaids has supported many families and young people dealing with bullying and discrimination due to their gender identity. As part of that support, we deliver training into schools (as above) to help them understand the issues that children face and to give them the understanding and tools to both support those children and to tackle bullying in all forms. In addition to the training we offer as standard, we are also funded by the DfE until March 2019 to deliver training into 39 schools nationwide as part of a partnership of multiple organisations, through the LGBT Consortium. These schools have now been allocated. An overview of what this covers is below, and if your school would like to undertake a similar program, we can deliver this.

Purpose

The overall purpose is to reduce the number of incidents of HBT (homophobic, biphobic and transphobic) bullying in primary and secondary schools in England by transforming the culture of how schools prevent and respond to HBT bullying in a sustainable way.

Aims

The programme aims to do this in three main ways:

• To prevent HBT bullying from happening in the first place;

• To effectively respond to HBT bullying when it does occur;

• To create an inclusive school environment for LGBT pupils and families.

Benefits

• Improving school staff capacity and confidence to tackle HBT bullying

• Support from experience professionals worth up to £1500 for free (fully funded)

• Comprehensive development plan for your schools Anti-HBT work

• Support around creating and embedding policy and practice around tackling HBT Bullying

• Training for school staff

• Access to a range of resources including lesson plans, supporting documents

• Access to a helpline

• Support for school staff on tackling HBT Bullying

Two models of working with Schools

Model 1: A “Whole School Approach” to addressing HBT bullying such as Working with schools to develop and embed Anti-HBT Bullying policy and to support staff to embed and implement it
Model 2: Targeted training for school staff to build their confidence and capacity to prevent and respond to HBT bullying and build inclusive school environments"

Twitter must have taken action as page no longer exists

I can't see anyone's names on the docs, just a lovely big, ever changing congregation of anonymous animals Grin

PencilsInSpace · 22/12/2018 23:39

You need to set your account to private.

Dragon3 · 22/12/2018 23:23

OK thanks, goingtobefine.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/12/2018 23:10

If you have a Google account and are signed in anyone else who is reading at the same time will see your first name I think?

Dragon3 · 22/12/2018 23:09

I'd really like to read them but know nothing about google docs. Can other google docs users see who has accessed/downloaded the documents?

Melroses · 22/12/2018 22:48

Wonderfully done. Thanks transcribers Flowers So clear to read.

Theinconstantgardener · 22/12/2018 22:26
