Apologies if this has already been posted. Did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Michael Conroy attended and recorded a mermaids training session. It's hair raising listening.

I believe that someone is working on transcribing this, which will hopefully make it easier to analyse. But wanted to post it to make sure it hadn't been missed.

I listened to all of it.
The worst lie was at the end when she talked about when they have a child that complains about the trans kid using sex segregated spaces like bathrooms/sleeping arrangements etc for residentials.

She said it is the law that the child that complains has to use alternative arrangements

I couldn't believe it. Honestly though I'm glad this is out there. But I'm fuming.

R0wantrees · 18/12/2018 21:47

why the heck did she bring up two spirit communities?

Its used as 'proof' that trans people have always existed and that there are more than two binary genders/sexes (?)

Candidpeel · 18/12/2018 21:46

Damn I missed this. Is the recording gone?

Dockray · 18/12/2018 21:46

To remove any bits that could include identifying info that jeopardises safeguarding you can use a free software called audacity to edit the recording. You just import the recording to audacity and it will show the recording as a sound wave. You can then play it and delete the relevant bits and then export it as a new wav file. Dead straight forward. Thought that might be useful info...

swerv · 18/12/2018 21:43

Before she moved onto clown fish - why the heck did she bring up two spirit communities?

Did she say there was scientific data to show that being trans was not a choice? Wonder where that data is?

Animal kingdom characteristics why???

Tom boy - and no male equivalent of the word - goodness, goodness me.

R0wantrees · 18/12/2018 21:40

Thank goodness it wasn't just me who couldn't get past the first 40 seconds

Whilst the beginning section is deeply frustrating (described as 'cobblers'). Serious issues arise in the middle and end.

Is worth skipping forward to this.

courderoy · 18/12/2018 21:37

How can say that people don’t fit stereotypes and then say that people can / should define themselves in the context of and by reference to stereotypes? I don’t understand it. It is like clutching steam.

HandsOffMyRights · 18/12/2018 21:36

Some transcript on the 'mermaid review' thread. Didn't know about this thread!

HerFemaleness · 18/12/2018 21:28

Oh good grief. Clown fish.

BubonicBudgie · 18/12/2018 21:27

Thank goodness it wasn't just me who couldn't get past the first 40 seconds

HerFemaleness · 18/12/2018 21:26

'Appropriating the religious beliefs of Native Americans. Appropriating the experiences of intersex people. It just gets better and better :/

Melamin · 18/12/2018 21:23

It was for teachers, pastoral care staff.

(Obviously not physics or biology teachers Wink )

DandelionsAreNotLions · 18/12/2018 21:22

From Mermaids professional training. Blah blah. Gender disphoria... Not mental illness. . . etc...World Health organisation put under Gender incongruence, which near where they put the intersex So. Like I was saying before yeah? Organisations and things seem to be putting them closer together. Yeah, so who knows where they'll end up.

Not even finished listening to the first 40 seconds and its already this bad!!!

No wonder they don't want any scrutiny . Holy Fuckery .

swerv · 18/12/2018 21:20

I am too scared to go on twitter but what is the training for? Who is it meant to benefit?

Yes I lost the will at the 42 chromosomes /combinations.

HerFemaleness · 18/12/2018 21:14

What was that about humans having any combinations of 42 chromosomes?

Katvonblackdeath · 18/12/2018 20:59

Thanks imherefornow

Melamin · 18/12/2018 20:56

Melamin · 18/12/2018 20:54

swerv · 18/12/2018 20:51

Just want to say what a legend to get this recorded and out there.

I can't believe this shit?

The Barbie : GI Joe dichotomy has blown my mind. Jelly babies???

Blown my mind - what is this training for?

The trainer is unbelievable -

She says

"those of us with breasts are we all the same bra size - I won't embarrass those with a lower appendage?"

How the fuck does this sexist training get lottery funded?

Melamin · 18/12/2018 20:42

You can't use a recording, made without the knowledge of those involved, in a court of law as evidence.

donquixotedelamancha · 18/12/2018 20:39

AFAIK, it's illegal to record someone without their knowledge and consent, and publishing such a recording would presumably be even more illegal (technical term)

IANAL, but my understanding is that recording is not unlawful for personal use only, but sharing is. I believe there is a public interest exemption- which seems to have a strong argument in this case.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/12/2018 20:36

According to the Sun (who Id guess would know)..

www.thesun.co.uk/news/4093108/illegal-record-conversation-film-someone/

It looks like it may depend on the definition of a journalist (can you self ID?)
