" Big businesses helped kill the Texas bathroom bill two years ago, targeting it as discriminatory and unnecessary.

They said the legislation, which would have required Texans to use the restrooms that match their sex at birth, would have hampered efforts to woo new companies to the state and turned off convention planners and sports leagues looking at venues for events.

Now, some companies are doubling down on that commitment, citing diversity and inclusivity as factors in their decisions. Apple made this clear Thursday, when it announced a $1 billion investment in the capital city.

The bathroom bill, or something like it, may be back when state lawmakers meet in 2019. But opponents of these restroom regulations say the business community will again give them the ammunition they need to shoot down such divisive legislation.

Men and women, in ancient history, always had separate spaces, and in fact, the need for such spaces disappears as a society becomes more modern and liberal.

That’s great news.

Where’s my jet pack?

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/12/2018 14:57

he need for such spaces disappears as a society becomes more modern and liberal.

Iy would disappear if men as a class posed no danger to women. They still do. So no men in women’s spaces.

AspieAndProud · 14/12/2018 14:56

No dicks in the female loos.

And no penises either.

KindOfAGeek · 14/12/2018 14:55

Attention LADIES!!!

Misogyny, sexism and abuse HAVE NOW DISAPPEARED because things are now MODERN!!

FamousPJ · 14/12/2018 14:53

There are very good reasons why women fought long and hard for spaces away from men. Spaces where they can be certain their privacy, dignity and safety will not be infringed on by men.

That's a version of history which simply didn't happen and has no basis in reality. Men and women, in ancient history, always had separate spaces, and in fact, the need for such spaces disappears as a society becomes more modern and liberal. How many ancient religious temples have separate areas for men and women? I seriously doubt that women "fought" for those spaces within those religious groups.

KindOfAGeek · 14/12/2018 14:52

The example you gave isn't even relevant to the idea of having sex segregated rooms

There is a STRONG possibility you're just a fool.

BlindYeo · 14/12/2018 14:51

FamousPJ · 14/12/2018 14:50

You REALLY have never gone to the loo with a friend or colleague have you?

... No, I haven't, because I'm not gay and the idea of urinating in the company of another man is really weird to me.

Men don't gossip in the men's room in your world. Women don't discuss things in the women's room.

Not in my world, in the real world. The full extent of my conversations in the toilet is "hello."

If, for example, a woman I worked with was visibly upset about a male colleague making a ribald remark about her body, I wouldn't follow her into the ladies to encourage her to contact HR .... in your world. In your world, she would just go home and cry.

Your workplace sounds horrible if you work with men like that. I am sorry that your colleagues are such unpleasant people.

Personally, if I saw someone upset by something, I would discuss it with them... In a quiet space or a short corridor. Not in a room where people are urinating or defecating.

We could set up another sex segregated room for things like that, I suppose, but then men would be insisting they needed access to that as well.

What? Why are sex segregated rooms needed in a work place? Are you in primary school or what? Do you live in Saudi Arabia where men and women need to be kept apart?

The example you gave isn't even relevant to the idea of having sex segregated rooms. A male colleague is every bit as capable as a female colleague of comforting a sexually harassed woman and reporting it. You don't need sex segregated areas for a victim of sexual harassment to be helped.

There are very good reasons why women fought long and hard for spaces away from men. Spaces where they can be certain their privacy, dignity and safety will not be infringed on by men. Remember those men who perpetrate 98% of all sexual offences? We do. And we're not having men in our lavs, or our changing-rooms, hospital wards, prisons, rape-crisis centres or refuges. I'd be prepared to do absolutely anything it takes to ensure it, so be warned!

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/12/2018 14:46

Point 2. Read the mermaids and all sorts guidance for schools. Read the UK safeguarding framework. Note the points of contradiction.

What do you mean by ‘allowing men to transition has no impact.’? Of course it does unless SEX based rights are clarified. If a woman is anyone who feels like one, then ‘woman’ is meaningless and any laws that prevent disadvantage based on sex are moot

It’s not that women have rights that men don’t - of course it isn’t Hmm it’s about discriminating against women. The bulk of that happens because of SEX. Of biology. A woman’s right to safety is compromised by making single sex facilities mixed sex.

Point four: you’re not concerned that a convicted rapist and child abuser *with previous for using ‘I’m a woman’ to get into a locked women’s psych ward and rape a woman’ was put in a women’s jail? A jail that had a mum and baby unit? Because ‘women do worse?’ Okidoki.

5: I didnt suggest transgirls are a danger. You did. Im saying that Male predators (I’m not even talking about people identifying as the opposite sex, I’m talking about men who will use this loophole) can now access girls where they couldnt before. And they will.

  1. Of you’d like to discuss the impacts of puberty blockers and cross sex hormones I’m happy to do so. It’s fairly horrific.
An academic from Bristol uni among others is pushing for children to have legally recognised genders and to be legally recognised in their gender earlier. Mermaids et al say children are competent from age five. They are not. And doing so will have consequences for safeguarding

There are serious concerns for the safety of women and children here.

Ahhh... and if it’s Male violence transwomen fear, then its men who need to shape up. Why are men not told to be less violent?

Why is making toilets mixed sex making anyone safer? It isn’t. Using your argument a man could just follow a transwoman on anyway.

BlindYeo · 14/12/2018 14:41

Perhaps we should rename it Men's Entitlement Activism.

I don't really like gracing their campaigning with the word 'rights'.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 14/12/2018 14:37

The interesting thing here is that the justificaiton is that going with the men is out because men are violent and rapey.

So which is it?

A: Only one type of womans safety matters, and it's not the cunty sort. Same old same old.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 14/12/2018 14:36

Of course

Lesbians who don't like dick in them for sex are genitally obsessed
Women who say hold on won't this mean even more chaps wanking at us all over the shop are creepy because WOAH you spend your time imagining chaps wanking?

It's all good stuff but completely disconnected from the reality of life. For men and women and sex crimes.

The suggstion that women should be more worried about what female prisoners do to each other than what bedicked rapists will do if put in with them is a case in point.

KindOfAGeek · 14/12/2018 14:35

You discuss all that in a toilet? Insanity.

You REALLY have never gone to the loo with a friend or colleague have you?

Men don't gossip in the men's room in your world. Women don't discuss things in the women's room.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 14/12/2018 14:33

lol @ "men don't mind seeing vaginas in the changing room" :D guffaw brilliant

Got any more like that?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 14/12/2018 14:33

The latest DARVO thing seems to be suggesting that there's something 'creepy' or obsessive about people who discuss male sexual violence and bullying towards women.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 14/12/2018 14:31

"unless you are implying that men being able to "access" women and children, as you said in point 3, is a sexual right... Which is a really really creepy thing to suggest"

Loads and loads of men are creepy.

That's kind of the whole point.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 14/12/2018 14:28

I have comforted total strangers in the ladies. Loads of times.

Also missing from the list was vomiting in the toilets which we probs do more of because of pregnancy, trying to get over a hot flush in the toilets etc

NothingOnTellyAgain · 14/12/2018 14:27

"Actually, it's just regarding toilets, which are just for urination, menstruation, and defecation, and have absolutely nothing to do with congregating or speaking."

Yes it's well known that women never chat in toilets, hide in toilets, cry in toilets, laugh with their mates in toilets, get ready to go out in toilets ....

I mean men never joke about "what on earth do women do in there and why do they go in groups", do they!

FamousPJ · 14/12/2018 14:26

Nothing at all. Apart from women who want to discuss their legal rights being removed, being punched, smoke bombed, threatened with bombs, threatened by men in masks, met with vexatious lawsuits, harassed, threatened with rape, having their employers contacted, having the doors of their offices pissed on, being stalked, having the police set on them as a tactic, being banned from Twitter and getting death threats.

You discuss all that in a toilet? Insanity.

FamousPJ · 14/12/2018 14:25

Absolutely nothing you said has anything to do with sexual rights for men (unless you are implying that men being able to "access" women and children, as you said in point 3, is a sexual right... Which is a really really creepy thing to suggest).

Point 1- suggesting that women would lose their rights is nonsense. There are no rights that men have that women don't have, so allowing people to transition has no impact.
Point 2- citation needed.
Point 3- first of all, men are in contact with children in men's toilets anyway, so it's false to imply that not allowing transwomen into women's toilets would prevent access to children. Second, sex offenders who have intentions on harming women don't care what's legal and what isn't! Men (not transwomen, men) have raped women in toilets; they weren't supposed to be in there anyway, so what the law says is irrelevant for preventing this type of crime.
Point 4- I would be more concerned about what women have done to other women in prison.
Point 5- suggesting that young transgirls are sexual predators is outrageous. But if you are bothered about seeing a penis, then I think the problem is with you and not the transwomen. Men have far more maturity than this; we don't complain about seeing vaginas in our changing rooms because we aren't oversized children.
Point 6- fictional rubbish.

None of this movement is beneficial to people just quietly living their lives with gender dysphoria.

Again, incorrect. Transwomen are extremely vulnerable to violence from men. Forcing transwomen into men's toilets and men's changing rooms puts them in danger. YOU are the one who is helping predators!

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/12/2018 14:20

Well yes that too rufus Grin

Still there will be no need for women’s loos in this brave new world. We won’t be doing anything as scary as going out in public or working! We will be handed out to men like sweeties as a prize for them existing

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/12/2018 14:17

Absolutely bowl

I was of course taking it very literally Smile

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/12/2018 14:15

Apart from that, nowt to do with it at all.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/12/2018 14:11

and have absolutely nothing to do with congregating or speaking

Youve never been to the bogs with a friend...or group of ?
