" Big businesses helped kill the Texas bathroom bill two years ago, targeting it as discriminatory and unnecessary.

They said the legislation, which would have required Texans to use the restrooms that match their sex at birth, would have hampered efforts to woo new companies to the state and turned off convention planners and sports leagues looking at venues for events.

Now, some companies are doubling down on that commitment, citing diversity and inclusivity as factors in their decisions. Apple made this clear Thursday, when it announced a $1 billion investment in the capital city.

The bathroom bill, or something like it, may be back when state lawmakers meet in 2019. But opponents of these restroom regulations say the business community will again give them the ammunition they need to shoot down such divisive legislation.

Do you need to have gender reassignment surgery (a 'sex change operation') to be trans?
A lot of media coverage is obsessed with details of body parts and surgical procedures. For some trans people, having gender reassignment surgery is an important part of their transition. Getting access to that surgery is extremely difficult at the moment, and more investment is desperately needed so that trans people can get the procedures they need.

But for other trans people surgery isn’t something they want. Being trans isn’t about having (or not having) particular body parts. It’s something that’s absolutely core to a trans person’s identity and doesn’t alter - whatever outward appearances might be.

From stonewall for those not familiar with the 'umbrella'.

Incorrect, transwomen are very very clear that they are not cross-dressers, and that transitioning and being a cross-dresser are two very different things. That statement was consistent with what a transwoman would say.

Nope.

I feel like we've had this exact discussion approximately a billion times, though admittedly usually without quite this open a level of misogynistic disdain for women's feelings. Is the CD player broken?

Cross-dressing and being transgender are completely different things.

Tara Hewitt, influential NHS Diversity adviser, co-founder of TELI training session for healthcare professionals.
Tara says otherwise (I'm sure she would know given she wrote the ammendments to ward policies etc)

Do you carry a speculum? That’s dedicated

And also a teensy bit disturbing. You are not my gynecologist, random person in the changing room at the pool, so if you could stop attempting to perform internal exams on me when I'm trying to change into my swimsuit that would be lovely.

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/12/2018 21:50

Do you see vaginas? How exactly?

Curious to know.

Qcng · 14/12/2018 21:50

There are no statistics which show an elevation in crime in toilets and changing rooms following a change in policy to allow transwomen in

I'm not 6 years old, so I'm indifferent to seeing penises, boobs, and vaginas in public spaces.

You'd have to be looking pretty closely to see a vagina Confused

There have always been human males who are outraged by the fact that human females don't want to see their penises. I see no reason why the subset of human males who say "yeah but mine is a women's penis though" should be given any more leeway than the larger group that don't.

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/12/2018 21:49

Wrong. Letting MEN in has lead to a 2.5x increase in voyeuristic crime and assaults in mixed sex change rooms.

Cross-dressing and being transgender are completely different things.

Nope. Stonewall umbrella. Have a look. All under there, acceptance without exception and all that. Cross dresser, AGP, the lot.

1 and 2 are demonstrably true - data available.
3 is a dog whistle, no one is saying that. They’re saying making all spaces mixed sex lets in any Male who has nefarious intent. Doesn’t matter if every transwoman on the planet is a saint - you make spaces mixed sex and men will have opportunity to commit more crime. Just men. Not transwomen, your common or garden bloke.

Quite a lot of men really just don’t like women much do they? Still, it’s good to find out which ones don’t want us to have our privacy and safety, so we can avoid them like the plague. Funnily, they all think they’re Nice Guys™️ - charming incel types who can’t understand why the universe hasn’t bestowed a hot chick upon them for their mere existence and can’t underatand it’s not their looks, or their wallet, but their personality that’s at fault.

Such is life. 3 billion plus blokes on the planet, no need to give the creepy ones the time of day.

Wipe your keyboard down if it’s sticky, there’s a love.

EverardDigby · 14/12/2018 21:47

Fair enough, but my point stands that someone with gender dysphoria who transitions is in a very different world to someone who wears women's clothes just because he gets a kick out of it.

Congratulations, you are now a TERF for that statement.

Banning transwomen from women's toilets won't reduce violence against women. Allowing them into the women's toilets won't increase it

LOL I thought this was about "women's spaces" not toilets
Replace toilets with spaces and then you get

WTF of course it will, seeing as Target stores saw sexual offences increase astronomically after they introduced trans inclusive policies...

womanmeanssomething.com/1034-2/

But of course it helps protect women anyway, preventing men no matter how they identify into their space. It's a no brainer.

It's amazing how one minute it's not about toilets it's about "spaces" then suddenly it's "only toilets" and that won't protect women from males violence anyway, so it may as well be all spaces but only toilets after all

This is gaslighting in full cry.

I'm delighted to see penises that I've actively taken steps to ensure that I see, my DHs for example. In public facilities such as changing rooms though? Nope, and most other women feel the same.

Note that this does not mean that I will be engaging with this week's attempt at derailment any further.

Bubonicpanic · 14/12/2018 21:41

I suppose when the facts don't back up your assumptions you are going to think the people telling you about the facts are a bit harsh. Please be assured your discomfort with reality does not change the facts at all. Expecting others to ignore the facts in order not to seem harsh is pathetic.

Steam away, it makes no difference to the facts.
