" Big businesses helped kill the Texas bathroom bill two years ago, targeting it as discriminatory and unnecessary.

They said the legislation, which would have required Texans to use the restrooms that match their sex at birth, would have hampered efforts to woo new companies to the state and turned off convention planners and sports leagues looking at venues for events.

Now, some companies are doubling down on that commitment, citing diversity and inclusivity as factors in their decisions. Apple made this clear Thursday, when it announced a $1 billion investment in the capital city.

The bathroom bill, or something like it, may be back when state lawmakers meet in 2019. But opponents of these restroom regulations say the business community will again give them the ammunition they need to shoot down such divisive legislation.

In the real world?

This person seems to have been living on the proverbial desert island.

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/12/2018 22:25

the laws would be written to stop sex offenders from taking advantage of the system.

Here is Gordon pike. Gordon pike is a sex offender. Gordon pike helped draw up the rules for transfer of men into women’s jails. Half of transwomen offenders in British jails are sex offenders.

Nothing to see here.

You mean just like we have at the moment with female only spaces?

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/12/2018 22:24

But it's already come into play.

Girl guides now let boys in who identify as girls. Sharing tents and showers.

Schools issued guidance to affirm and keep from parents and allow to use opposite sex changing facilities.

Danielle Muscato took a place in a woman's refuge

The rock stars comment, my first thought was yes but none of them fit the bill. Hmm, so is it that males in tech see themselves as being lesser men and bullying women is an easy, cheap shot? Does being perceived as a male nerd mean they go overboard when given ‘power’ ie moderating twitter??

I feel like when all this is over we should put out the collection hat and send Glinner a nice gift basket in recognition of his steadfast support of both women and reality.

GoldenWonderwall · 14/12/2018 22:21

Ime tech is desperate to be more diverse because companies are generally aware that having a workforce full of identikit workers doesn’t give the best results. I’m sure we’ve all used websites aimed at women for example that are utterly illogical and don’t work as you’d want them to - loads of women’s clothes sites for example. It’s often obvious when the tech don’t actually use the product and don’t seem to have any respect for the customers that do. Saying that, it’s incredibly difficult for tech companies in the U.K. at the moment to hire good people - there aren’t enough to go round, which also explains poor products we all end up working around the faults of.

Gender neutral cubicle toilets that open out into relatively public spaces seem to be the norm in the U.K. tech companies I’m aware of. Which is no good if you’d like a bit of privacy as for example, if you’re on your period you might need to use the toilet more often and lots of people will be aware of that if it’s very open. Also you need the men you work with (the majority of the workforce in tech) to be considerate, not leave piss all over the seat and not do stinky ass shits at work. So good luck with that.

Tech companies seem to play at corporate culture bullshit - brand new businesses that have no presence other than in the cloud seem to encourage behaviour that harks back to the worst of the yuppie 80s. It’s funny how the progressive stuff they’ve latched onto is the one where you change the toilet signs rather than the ones where you invest in your potential workforce that need help and support and funding to get to a point where they could apply to work for you in the first place.

in reality, a transwoman would be in a position to present evidence that she has been living as a woman, whereas a biological man would not be able to do so

Like what? You're not allowed to ask to see evidence of a grc.

Bubonicpanic · 14/12/2018 22:20

Ah compassionate. That's your explanation for badgering and harassment of women into relinquishing boundaries. For insisting that women must give in against their wish. You believe you are entitled to give something away that belongs to women, not you because compassion. No compassion for women, but it does stretch to sex offenders, paraphilliacs and autogyneaphilics..

We get visitors here like you. You are the worst type of gaslighting manipulative men we get. The ones that claim to be compassionate.

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/12/2018 22:20

As 12

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/12/2018 22:20

But this is what the activists are campaigning for.

People to self identify as Women

Regardless of how much they have or haven't done to the body.

Kids as young as we have been given puberty blockers by a Dr who's just been investigated and fined for running an illegal online clinic.

And yes people such as graham linehan have had the police turn up at the door for not going along with it

The "innate genius" theory has a lot to answer for, imo. In tech it seems to lead to the idea that the person in question is so irreplaceable that everyone else pretty much has to put up with whatever they choose to do.

Deffo AAK

I read a really good article a while back on a similar culture in (Lehman brothers?) one of the financial houses that fell in the crash. They identified that as one of the key things that lead to the culture that downed them.

There’s a tendency in the industry to think people have innate genius rather than a good level of intelligence plus experience and hard work. I’m not sure that’s such a healthy culture either. It’s certainly not compatible with accountability.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 14/12/2018 22:16

You reckon there's some kind of completely random spatial co-occurrence between rapists and mixed sex loos? That in places where loos are single-sex there are just fewer sex offenders for completely unrelated reasons?

AngryAttackKittens · 14/12/2018 22:14

I'm tending towards Bowl's view that it may be educational for any lurkers still labouring under the illusion that anyone calling themselves a transwoman is a lovely person who has a deep and abiding sense of empathy for women.

Many years ago during my sixth form days I worked in a clothes shop. One day I was working on the female changing room and a man tried to walk in. I told him it was the women's and the man's was upstairs. He gave some guff about not being able to walk upstairs (he looked fine) and he wanted to use this one. He was quite persistent. I was only about 17 and on my own. Luckily a (male) security guard spotted the situation and came over, escorting him firmly away.

Now said man would just have to say "I identify as a woman' and young shop assistant is in a very difficult position.

EverardDigby · 14/12/2018 22:13

Rubbish

Ah now I agree with you on this, you would think it was rubbish, but no it's not, a woman is anyone who says they are a woman, even Danielle Muscato or Ian Huntley according to the trans ideology. You need to do some more research.
