Absolutely shocked (and wasn’t sure I still could be) by her thread this morning about the abuse she’s endured, including acts of physical intimidation, covert bullying and vandalism. twitter.com/GoonerProf/status/1070158128837246977?s=20 Fuckers.

Not a lesbian but really not sure why not tbh Angry

Adrian Lester has retweeted Rosa’s thread. I’m pathetically grateful to him.

Where the FUCK are the other men?

lucydogz · 05/12/2018 20:53

Jess f***g Phillips. Friend of women. Was on This Week last Thursday. Her moment of the week was that mp with hiv standing up. Lots of brownie points there. And me shouting at the TV 'what about women Jess?'

lucydogz · 05/12/2018 20:50

As i've said, if we all tweeted the members of the women and Equalities. Or any mp. Perhaps they might respond.

HouseOfMouse · 05/12/2018 20:42

I find this whole thing horrifying, really chilling. I’m glad James Kirkup has brought it to a wider audience and I really hope the University investigate this properly (though I’m sceptical that they will). While there are the usual idiots on Twitter insinuating that Prof Freedman did something to “deserve” this treatment (FFS) or that trans women have it so much worse than “cis” women (FFS), the majority do seem to understand how sinister things have become. I hope Prof Freedman is OK.

WSPU · 05/12/2018 20:38

I know Jemina. I think I’ll be spoiling my ballot at the next election for the first time in my life.

ProfessionalBarren · 05/12/2018 20:30

This seems to have woken quite a few people up on Twitter. It’s a relief to see how negatively it is viewed by non-partisan people (as well as by us on here obviously). Poor Rosa, she seems tough but no one should have to endure this.

How can the TRAs not see how counterproductive their actions are? Seems that the prospect of intimidating and belittling a woman is just too tempting - any idea of tactics goes out of the window.

The Left appalls me (and there's no one else to vote for)

This whole thing has made me so angry today.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 05/12/2018 20:12

Re women MPs - all of them should be ashamed but Jess f*cking self confessed feminist Philips - where the hell is she on this?

She sits on the woman and equalities committee - she knows this is all going on! She is complicit.

WSPU · 05/12/2018 20:07

One of the questions last night was from a trade union rep who suggested that our unions were letting us down, but that dissent within them was strong. I don’t know if Rosa is a member of a trade union, but many of us are and are increasingly concerned about the lack of support from them for their GC members. Knowing how woke they are has discouraged some academics from coming forward. But UCU should be supporting her and all its members.

The fact that a number of GC critical women have come to the movement via trade unions makes this all the more galling.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 05/12/2018 20:05

Lucydo - great idea

(Mine is shit but good to keep irritating him with this stuff)

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 05/12/2018 20:03

And for all this to happen to Prof Freedman who actively argues for new laws to protect trans rights.

Yes, she recognises material reality and the need to protect women's rights but alongside that she's doing more for trans right than any of those vile muppets ever will do - particularly in developing countries where they face ACTUAL human rights violations (as opposed to not just not being welcomed into the ladies loos as here)

lucydo · 05/12/2018 19:55

I think we should all tweet our MPs with James' article and ask for a response. I intend to.

Oldstyle · 05/12/2018 19:38

I agree Don - we need to keep shouting about this or it will simply be submerged by articles about how Megan & Kate don't get on, or whether Boris is planning to oust May.
If this fascistic behaviour is not roundly and universally condemned it will continue. Abusive males are having a field day.

2rebecca · 05/12/2018 19:28

I increasingly despair of the silence of our most prominent female politicians on this issue.
OK Brexit is ( or isn't) happening but you'd think Teresa May, Nicola Sturgeon or Ruth Davidson (OK on maty leave but life still goes on and she was silent before going off) could support women.
They can't all really believe the opinions of gender dysphoria men matter more than those of women.

scepticalwoman · 05/12/2018 19:22

I don't expect that the Guardian will touch it but the Mail have done:

stillathing · 05/12/2018 19:12

Surely this needs to be in the major newspapers as well?

donquixotedelamancha · 05/12/2018 18:43

Two things:

  1. Bump. This thread should be top of the forum for a while. This is absolutely bloody disgusting.
  1. I wrote to Prof. F to thank her for her courage. I'm sure emails and support on SM would be welcome at such a crap time.

'In agreement to the use of students Materialist, it makes me think of the Khmer Rouge - attempting to brainwash the young to do the dirty work.'

There’s an outstanding YA historical novel, Between Shades Of Gray, about a Lithuanian family exiled to Siberia in the Stalinist purges. I had read other memoirs about this but what brought me up short was the youth of the people who have been given guns and are forcing people into trucks. There's a harrowing scene where a woman who has just given birth is dragged out of a hospital, still bleeding, and what struck me was the righteousness and utter ignorance of the twenty year old soldiers. It's not just the Khmer Rouge or the Nazis, it's every oppressive regime, and I now understand far more than I want to about why.

Oldstyle · 05/12/2018 17:25

Horrified to read about the abuse that Rosa is having to (somehow) cope with. I'd hope for a much more robust & far-reaching statement from Reading Uni who appear to be fence-sitting at the moment. That students feel it's acceptable to harass & bully a hugely respected, compassionate, thoughtful Professor, simply because she believes in biological facts, suggests that the trans lobby have the upper hand at Reading. And the SU have not yet issued a statement condemning the abuse. So very very sorry Rosa. Thank you for everything you do. FlowersFlowersFlowers

This is the leading edge of fascism — masked, as Nazism was at first, in the language of the left.

Yes. I keep saying this. Fascism always includes some form of social welfare rhetoric and policy. But only for an in-group.

ChewyLouie · 05/12/2018 17:07

Some of the comments under that Kirkup article make me despair of other human beings.
