Absolutely shocked (and wasn’t sure I still could be) by her thread this morning about the abuse she’s endured, including acts of physical intimidation, covert bullying and vandalism. twitter.com/GoonerProf/status/1070158128837246977?s=20 Fuckers.

What's Sue's surname and what organisation such she represent?

Humm.. slightly feeling that she might be on here or I may have offended. What I meant is that Sue looked as though she expected to be vilified as a transphobic for her views - whereas Rosa just came out and stated them with no caveats etc

'Carer' .. not career! 😉

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 07/12/2018 20:45

Boatyard - Rosa is on for 1st half (1hr) with a rep from a Scottish Women's got (does anyone know who?) then there's a break and it's the opposing side - a non binary (woman) and a bloke. It's really interesting - Rosa is inspiring - really calm, clear, authoritative and straightforward.

The other woman makes good points too but is almost visibly squirming at the awkwardness of it all (I'm not meaning to be critical though I realise that is - I would probably do that too - female socialisation and all - I'm drawing attention to it as it's noticeable that Rosa doesn't do it, at all)

The other side is interesting too but the kids were making too much noise and I want to go back and listen carefully as both representativeness were, I feel, being quite disingenuous with some of their answers. The NB clearly believed what she was fighting for a just cause but was being slippery in the bit I heard (was basically agreeing that no one should have to have a career providing intimate care that they weren't comfortable with without stating that they would have the onus on each vulnerable patient to object)

Sorry that was a quite long answer but it is worth a listen!

“Poke a hornet’s nest” is an interesting turn of phrase to use about people we are repeatedly being asked to sympathise with.

boatyardblues · 07/12/2018 20:21

The posted YouTube link of Rosa’s testimony is 2hrs long. Is she giving evidence for the whole thing?

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 07/12/2018 09:26

If anyone would like to complain about the Labour Cllr Stephanie Dale whose vile tweet said that Rosa deserved it 'poke a hornets nest long enough and you'll get stung' etc (link below though sorry not clicky) then you can email [email protected] detailing how Stephanie is not fit to serve and has bought the Town Cohncil's reputation into disrepute

Rosa and Sue were magnificent in the submission to the Scottish census committee in that link - it's so refreshing to watch adults contributing and learning from each other and getting their collective heads around the major developments and issues, as that clip showed the various committee members doing as they questioned and tabled objections to Rosa & Sue that were all addressed diligently and intelligently.

So much more refreshing than the click bait screams of fragile male egos.

rightreckoner · 07/12/2018 07:45

I think flowers is a great idea for when she’s back Id chip in for sure.

Ereshkigal · 07/12/2018 00:21

Yes thank you Alice, just watched the submission. She was fantastic.

ChattyLion · 06/12/2018 23:11

Glad to see that good strong statement from the Acting VC at Reading.

Next the Vice Chancellors and Universities UK or whoever is their representative body need to get together and issue a JOINT statement to actively protect academic freedom of thought, speech, publication and teaching. And to take all available measures against those who cross the line. And stop pretending that this is an equal set of issues- they should acknowledge that not one single gender critical woman has harassed, attacked, stalked any person who has disagreed with them on these issues.

And they should demand we the appropriate strong condemnation from major representative groups who could set the public tone on this if they wanted to.

I mean, FFS what more do the governing bodies in academia possibly need to see happen before they will act to say enough is enough? It’s absolutely shameful and recklessly negligent.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 06/12/2018 23:02

Alice - thanks for the video link.

BingBongSong · 06/12/2018 22:25

Thanks for the thread. I'm appalled at this very male type of behaviour - the territorial pissing and the harassment over the phone. I think we all know how it feels to be afraid when walking at night.

I hope Rosa is OK. Flowers for you, if you are reading. You are a brave woman.

ToeToToe · 06/12/2018 22:14

Oh no, she's gone off twitter?!

Rosa, I'm proud to be among so many women here who support you and applaud your bravery Thanks

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 06/12/2018 22:14

Rosa is off Twitter for a bit on field work. But she was beyond amazing today at Scottish parliament.

arranbubonicplague · 06/12/2018 22:08

Maybe we could send actual flowers to her work?

Rosa Freedman is away, according to this.

PSA: Prof Rosa Freedman is doing field research and can’t be on Twitter right now (day job preventing sexual exploitation and abuse in conflict and crisis zones). Reckon she will be back online when she returns to England.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 06/12/2018 22:04

Humm . Maybe we could send actual flowers to her work? Or, would that be weird? Humm..

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 06/12/2018 22:03

Yep she is one courageous woman 💐

Adrian Lester retweeted Rosa’s thread yesterday. The retweet seems to have been deleted Angry
