Men certainly do experience domestic violence from their female partners - especially when you factor in emotional abuse, you don't necessarily have to be physically stronger to hurt somebody, especially if you use weapons.
Men who are victims of domestic violence might also believe that it is wrong to fight back and who don't want to physically hurt their partners.
They may also find it difficult to report, for fear of being shamed, or that they will be accused of being the aggressor. So we definitely shouldn't ignore it.

Melamin · 03/12/2018 15:45

She seems to be more heavily into 'diversity' rather than lesbian or bi.

crsacre · 03/12/2018 15:34

GLAAD's latest annual report:
www.glaad.org/sites/default/files/GLAAD-Annual-Report-2017-2018.pdf

"lesbian" appears once.
"gay" appears 5 times.
"transgender" appears 26 times.

drspouse · 03/12/2018 15:32

(So the only transwomen who are at risk of DV, really, are those who are attracted to males).

drspouse · 03/12/2018 15:32

I do find it hard to believe this - that a born man suffers domestic violence at the hands of a woman ( a wife or girlfriend assuming it was a heterosexual relationship to begin with) simply because men are bigger and stronger than women so unless it's being done in manner of Pauline Fowler with a frying pan I simply don't believe in the violence aspect. Huge rows yes, physical domestic violence no.

As with gay men, IIRC transwomen who are attracted to men are at similar risk from a male partner as a woman with a male partner.

I think the stats are that Stonewall is exaggerating (NO! Who'd a thunk it?) but that the National Crime survey is under-estimating meaning that people in a relationship with a man are at roughly the same risk of DV no matter what their own sex or gender identity.
Of course the ultimate outcome of that DV may well depend on the relative physical size of the person-in-a-relationship-with-a-man.

And it still tells us more about the DV-er than the DV-ee (except of course out of all people in a relationship with a man, most are female).

Linda Riley is a director of GLAAD.
www.glaad.org/about/board/lindariley

Salaries seem to be in ballpark of US$ 75,000-101,000.

Unfortunately the removal of gendertrender by WordPress means that we can't refer to Gallus Mag's investigate research on GLAAD.

Melamin · 03/12/2018 15:18

Yes very civilised Smile.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/12/2018 15:13

and listening again I am struck by how civilised it is

two people who fundamentally disagree on something very important to them who are able to

  1. give the other person an opportunity to speak
  2. say quite nice things about each other at times
  3. be in the same room

now what's different about these two people compared to some of the other women's hour guests? hmm....

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/12/2018 15:09

I am interested by the number of trans women who identify as lesbian. It seems much higher than natal women

mmm funny that

even the wokest 'once kissed a girl for attention' definition puts only around 15% of young women as lesbian or bisexual. seems a lot higher among transwomen (that well known subset of women)

rightreckoner · 03/12/2018 15:08

None of it was transphobic. It was the equivalent of a teenage strop - I can’t think what else to say so I’ll just say that you’re all really mean and slam the door.

Katvonblackdeath · 03/12/2018 15:04

I am interested by the number of trans women who identify as lesbian. It seems much higher than natal women? Odd.

Katvonblackdeath · 03/12/2018 15:01

Thought it was good that they had a civil debate.

The beard and penis phrase wasn't transphobic though? Not when you have people like Alex drummond? Surely?

rightreckoner · 03/12/2018 14:57

Also I'm going to channel Julia Long at the LAWS event - what the hell is a Trans Lesbian? Don't give them the kudos of the name. These people are many things and they are Trans. But lesbians they are not.

rightreckoner · 03/12/2018 14:54

I'm listening on catch up. Linda is hopeless. Julie is brilliant and so clear.

Ereshkigal · 03/12/2018 14:48

much clearer term.

Yes, that's why the TRAs aren't keen.

Datun · 03/12/2018 14:47

Transwomen being at risk of domestic violence has got nothing to do with whether or not lesbians should fuck them. Seriously, what did that woman even mean?

Because it certainly isn't women who are delivering this assault and violence towards transwomen. It's men.

It's quite extraordinary how she can hold both sides of the argument in her head as a means to coerce women into sex. Men are violent towards each other. So lesbians get no boundaries.

It's just jibber jabber.

Melamin · 03/12/2018 14:29

Transwomen are at more risk of domestic violence? - their lesbian partner is more likely to be the woman they were in a relationship with before they transitioned - is this happening? (er….no Hmm)

LizzieSiddal · 03/12/2018 14:20

She is now claiming that of course she'd heard it, but it was all mythical.

So she’s not seen the tweets from TRAs moaning about the Cotton Ceiling?

I hope someone is able to provide her with this evidence.

Ereshkigal · 03/12/2018 14:18

The reason you haven't heard a coherent argument, is because there isn't one.

This.

Datun · 03/12/2018 14:02

She is now claiming that of course she'd heard it, but it was all mythical.

Despite she herself propagating it. She said that saying lesbians with a penis is transphobic. She IS the pressure.

Does that mean that she, herself is a myth?

Can we all just stop believing in her then.

ChewyLouie · 03/12/2018 13:55

Diva magazine is a pretty much a red herring, Id’say GLAAD is what is driving her agenda.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 03/12/2018 13:53

These are good as they are making more people aware, which is the only thing we can do.

Such a shame it's in when thousands are at work.

incallthebloodytime · 03/12/2018 13:50

Sorry folks 😐

Gileswithachainsaw · 03/12/2018 13:44

I actually think in that saying she hadn't heard any thing from.lesbians and by saying herself she was inclusive she sounded brainwashed. It was all clearly part of a mantra script she can't deviate from hence why she was unable to answer or speak coherently about any points made

I don't think Julie bindel even brought out the medium guns. It was fairly tame. And still it all fell apart.

In trying to show they are inclusive they showed how they'd been "got to" instead.

arranbubonicplague · 03/12/2018 13:40

Odd how the issue is recognised in New Zealand but Riley won't accept it until she has proof (of what sort?) rather than what she's choosing to discount as urban myths.

Wall then began talking about the importance of prioritizing “trans inclusion,” before a flash of inspiration caused her to blurt: “My whole thing is that I don’t want any fucking TERFs at the Pride Parade!” This non sequitur won her thunderous applause, audible in the recording released by Speak Up For Women. It seems the old ploy works: when in doubt, blame women.

Pride is supposed to be about rainbow visibility. But this cause, whether championed by politicians, activists or the board itself, is increasingly dominated by the interests of men claiming to be lesbian, their insistence on lesbian compliance, and their disdain for feminists. While some Pride attendees invite teenage boys to “arse-play” parties, “transwomen” violate the very definition of lesbian, woman and homosexual, and harass women to do so. In this context of male sexual license, it is obvious why on-duty police are considered a threat by some Pride goers. Lesbian feminists explicitly against the parade’s phallocentrism remain the real party poopers, though – and easier to target.
