"Diversity" does seem to be a big money making scam. It's rarely about really engaging poor people or those with different opinions, especially right of centre opinions.

And this. I love this, might buy one anyway.....

Literal Violets is putting me in mind of Betty Friedan's Lavender Menace

The phrase "lavender menace" was coined by NOW leader Betty Friedan, who used it at a NOW meeting in 1969, claiming that outspoken lesbians were a threat to the feminist movement, arguing that the presence of these women distracted from the goals of gaining economic and social equality for women. The color lavender is associated with the LGBT/gay rights movement in general.
...
The Lavender Menace was one of the groups created as backlash to this exclusion of lesbians. The group formed in 1970, with many members involved in the Gay Liberation Front and the National Organization for Women.

Sorry the Mumsnet upload didn't work very well- these are the articles in Private Eye about Diva's Linda Riley

All of the spokespersons speaking on behalf of trans ideology on the Woman's Hour series have been somewhat unimpressive.

I like the way JG stops and asks contributors to explain what they mean by a certain piece of jargon. There must be clarity of definitions.

A reminder who Dvia Magazine Linda Riley is. This Private Eye article has not been followed up in mainstream media but deserves to!

Meant to put that she'd been in the relationship for many years, the post reads like the relationship is over they are still together

2rebecca · 03/12/2018 23:10

Excellent debate. Julie was excellent. I don't understand how any lesbian can really believe males can be lesbians too, although I had an acquaintance who viewed herself as lesbian and has been with a previously married and fathered kids transsexual and they view themselves as lesbians. The partner seems more of an old school transition and get on with life in your assumed gender rather than become a professional TRA though and is on social media far less than my acquaintance.
I presume Diva is largely bought by female lesbians if it is to survive commercially though.

The suffragettes wore lots of beautiful brooches, including tiny sprays of jewelled violets

Of course; the purple and the green. Took me a while Grin

HandsOffMyRights · 03/12/2018 23:02

If all else fails and your argument is bankrupt, just point to "transphobia". That old chestnuts no longer works though, but it's an easy go to, like faux suicide stats, comparisons to homophobia and racism (thinking about the trans identifying person who was on R4 recently and finished their section with 'it's just like racism..' who was that entitled individual, can anyone remember?)
Or, "why can't you just be nice to people?"

Grifters got to grift

Mumfun · 03/12/2018 22:53

Good points PamAyres!

And Crsacre if Linda is on $75000 for GLAAD and then owns a 120000 circulation magazine then she is on serious money! No wonder like many of the others there can be no debate! They have got to keep the readies coming in to keep them in the style to which they are accustomed!

littlbrowndog · 03/12/2018 22:53

Humourless Riley

littlbrowndog · 03/12/2018 22:52

Haha at Riley
She could have taken opportunity where Julie gave her almosy an invite to have a good laugh
But Riley didn’t

theOtherPamAyres · 03/12/2018 22:43

It's always wise to do some research on your opponent before plunging into a debate. It's also wise to have the right evidence for any assertions, up your sleeve. It is is no longer enough to virtue signal your 'compassion' for a supposedly marginalised group - especially when that group has acquired extraordinary rights, protections and state sponsorship.

The narrative, and so called facts, about the victimisation of transgender people, have been blown out of the water. They are flawed and unsound. There needs to be more robust research by an organisation that is unbiased. We know this, but it's news to trans spokespeople. (That's why spokespeople should do the preparation for an interview).

Pro-women advocates have had to develop their case under pressure and challenge from all quarters. They've done the homework. Their narratives, research, evidence and statistics have been tested outside of an echo chamber. It shows.

You don't get into the ring with the likes of Bindel, Freedman, Stock et al, and hope to get by on your 'compassion' or on a out-dated belief that you are on the right side of history. Oh, Linda Riley, you were so typical of the woefully underprepared, unresearched compassionate ally that knows eff all.

Great Twitter thread here, starting with Julie posting a pic of herself and Linda ( then Linda herself comes on in a huff..! ) 😀

incallthebloodytime · 03/12/2018 22:32

It's so fucking offensive this literal violence idea (literal violets sound lovely though) for every woman (or man) who's been a victim of violence

If only all my exH did was misgender me! Or say I had a penis!

I'm sure every victim of DV would have a thing to show them about what IS actually violent and how bad it needs to get to be recognised but no... these people can get the police to act on "literal violence" and demand the sympathy of DV victims everywhere (because they're amongst the rest of the world too)

AutumnCrow · 03/12/2018 22:28

I know it would work - I just don't have the design and build capacity!

rightreckoner · 03/12/2018 22:13

Absolutely jemima. I must have an enamel pin Smile

My grandma, herself an Edwardian, always wore one of those diamanté lizard brooches on her coats. I am at an age now where I need a signature brooch - this is a benefit of getting old - you are entitled to have a signature brooch. And I’m seeing an enamelled pin depicting some beautiful literal violets.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 03/12/2018 22:05

Rightreckoner - we crossed! There's definitely a demand here Autumncrow

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 03/12/2018 22:04

Autumncrow - your badges sound like they'd be lovely alongside a suffragette scarf...

And perhaps a small discreet enamel violet pin could serve as a FWR code for MNers wanting to identify each other at future Radfem/ WPUK events?

rightreckoner · 03/12/2018 22:03

Literal violets is just brilliant.

Some really clever graphic designer could do us a lovely literal violets badge in the suffragette colours cos green and purple....

It would be really pretty with a hint of Edwardian to it but with the good strong purple to underline the strength of purpose. I’m seeing a brand identity and a mood board and everything.
